Swiss man gets pardoned

General consensus in Thailand is that it was not only inevitable but pre-arranged anyway.

His Majesty the King had made it very clear that he did NOT want people prosecuted for Lesse Majeste anymore and the powers that be would never allow His Majesty to lose face.

This way saved everyones.

Good sense prevails. 2 Indonesians were not so lucky when they got 2 years prison for tearing up a picture of the then President, Megawati.

I think he would have served time if his crime was of a less serious variety.

My guess is his sentence would have been changed to death by the local prison

population. So, he's kicked out instead. Pretty darn lucky, IMHO. I think the Thai

government should have treated him in the same fashion as Indonesian authorities.

The guy's a dick.

It does sound like a political solution.

All the time he's in jail its an embarssment to thailand abroad.

But if he was deported straight away it would seem like he got of lightly by because he's a farang.

Best of luck to him anyway. It was a very stupid and insensitive thing he did but I think a few weeks in the slammer and then deportation is a more fitting punishment.

Never a supporter of a Monarchy (in any part of the world) unless I was IT.

But have to respect the local laws IMO and somethig I never do is talk politics or religion when I'm enjoying myself.

however as mean as it seems IMHO I agree with The Mook. To me this may or may not encourage more people in other contry's coming to The Kingdom to try to bend the RULES and see if they can get away with it. Oh well, hopefully my small head will steer me clear of that kind of trouble. :Insanity:

  • 2 weeks later...

I have to agree, this is one subject that people should be aware of when visiting Thailand, the Royal family are held in very high regard and if people do not like it they should not be in Thailand in the first place.

IMHO, the guy is just a complete idiot who was just pushing his luck a bit. He is lucky to get just deported.
