Jomtien: Mr. Moo

Recommended Posts

Mr. Moo is an inexpensive place on soi 7. It's on the left side of the soi about half way down coming from Rompho. A friend of mine recommended this place and we gave it a try tonight. I owe the guy a beer. I considered reporting on Mr. Moo in the "Under 300 Baht and Good" thread, but since it is in Jomtien I decided to break it out and add Jomtien to the Title.

It is al fresca, but the ceiling fans make it quite comfortable. The food was not just good, it was very good. This place is becoming very popular. Some nights there may not be an open table and I would estimate they have a seating capacity of about 40.

They have both Thai and Western food. Both are very good from what I saw during my first visit.

The GF had the Thai Rice Soup with Kung. I thought the way it showed up was a little bland, but after she worked it with the spice tray, it was really good. Although it doesn't show in the pic, I was impressed with the quality of the Shrimp. They were larger than one usually sees and they looked very fresh.

I had the Roast Chicken and I was wow'd. It was moist, tender, and very flavorful. Best of all the skin was crisped just right.

And now for what may be the best news of all. Dinner, including two cokes, came to 326.

Will I be back? Maybe tomorrow.

Did you take a photo of the menu?

No, I never do, as those are usually available online. Their FB site, whose link I did not include because it was heavily about their Xmas party, has quite a few food picks.

Mr. Moo has relocated.

We stopped to get the car washed today at Easy Car Wash on Thepprasit 17. That is the road that runs behind Rompho. The GF noticed the sign for Mr Moo next door to the car wash. A friend of hers had recommended the location for the fried bananas. She went over and got us a small bag and said it was indeed the new location for Mr Moo. The fried bananas were indeed very good.

I had been told that the original location for Mr Moo was here. The GF talked with the staff a bit and said that there are currently no plans to reopen the soi 7 location. Supposedly, the menu is pretty much the same at the new location and the GF relayed that there seems to be ample seating as well.

Also, the crew at Easy Wash do a first rate job.

Went there @1356 on your recommendation and had a pretty good meal.

I live at Residence Jomtien Beach Condo which is right off of Threpprasit Soi 17. I could walk to the restaurant in probably 10 minutes.

I had pad krapow gai, rice, fried egg and a coke...115฿. I will return to see how they prepare a couple other of my favorite Thai dishes.

I met Mr Moo he came and talked with me while I waited for my food. Seemed like a very nice guy.

He mentioned about the Australian grass fed steak, but I'm not really interested in eating Western food. That being said I may try it sometime.... I forgot what cut the steak is! :)

I particularly liked the drink cup... reminded of the ones at Tin Cup Soi Buakhao but a bit nicer! 555

Sorry to quibble, but if you are coming from the rear exit of Rompho, it will be on the left. Coming from that direction it and the car wash are about 100 M before Thepprasit.

Based on the menu you posted, it looks like the Farang selections have been paired back. I will try and get over there next week and do a more detailed update.

The price at Easy Wash is 170 for a small car. It is a little more for a larger car. I have a small car and I usually give them 200. A bike is considerably less and they do a very good job on those as well.

The car wash is at a very good level of service at Easy Wash. I would expect to pay $US 50 for an equivalent quality in the US.

I have been to one other car wash over on Thepprasit and it was 10 baht less. I like Easy Wash better.

Off topic I know, but I get my motorcycle washed on the Darkside, just up from Topical's, and it costs 50B.

Time to wash the car again, so we went over to Mr. Moo for a bite while the car was being taken care of. Worked out well as we returned just as the car was being finished.

The Farang options have definitely been paired back compared to the former soi 7 options. Many of my favorite soi 7 dishes (roast chicken, BBQ Pork ribs) are not on the menu. I took a few pics of the two pages of the more Farang type offerings. There are a lot of pages of Thai dishes on the menu. The GF and her friends think that the Noodle dishes are very good. Not often my thing, except at So's behing the Avenues in Pattaya.

Pasta and appetizers

Steaks - not sure if I agree with the title concerning a few of them

Still service and what we got (fried bananas for me and Noodle soup for the GF) were good. Total bill was 110.

Prior to pandemic, this place used to crank out business at night.   Lot of to go food for local bargirls.

Great som tum Lao and Thai style, great mango with sticky rice and gai yang.   Place is busy so they must be good. Motorbike taxi guys constantly taking food to go so they must be fairly good for Thais.  They actually had Jeow Bong to go with grilled chicken and sticky rice if you ask.

Here is some potentially good news.

Mr. Moo is reopening at a location in Rompho. We spoke with Mrs. Moo this evening at a bar in Rompho. She said that the new location will use the old soi 7 menu. The new restaurant will be on the further South soi. The GF has a few friends in town, so we plan on going there tomorrow August 17th for opening night. I will post a review .

Oh, I should have posted this a long time ago. It is 70 for my motorbike at Easy Wash. They do a really good job. I give them 100.

Ok - I screwed up the directions for Mr Moo. It is actually on the first street South of the Rompho entrance. Go about 100 meters and you will see the familiar Mr Moo sign next to the Chang Bar.

In my defense the directions were initially described to me in Thaiglish.

A few of us went to Mr. Moo's tonight.

The menu indeed is similar to the old soi 7 location. There are a few items, such as the Roast Chicken, that are absent at this time. The Thai section of the menu is very deep. The place is about 1/3rd the size of the old soi 7 location. They are obviously still getting things in place. The food was decent given the price. Mr Moo did visit the tables. He has dropped some weight.

The arrival of your dish compared to the rest of the table is still an adventure. TiT.

Great dinner at Mr Moo Restaurant last night with the GF. We have been here on holiday so far for 1 week and this is the best dinner we've had since we arrived. Mr Moo spoke with us for a few minutes and made us feel very welcome. Food is cooked by his mother-in-law and is served by his wife so it's a really nice family run business. We ordered 4 dishes - beef shank stir fried with basil, chicken with cashew nuts, shrimp with garlic and a flat noodle with pork. All 4 were excellent. My favorite was the chicken with the cashew nuts. The GF's favorite was the beef shank stir fried with basil. We'll definitely try to return one more time for dinner before our holiday is finished.

Had a meal there and was hardly impressed, Kiss food on second road Jomtien near Mr Moo is 1000% times better IMO.
