So, I’m split between the 2...

i have VT6 booked (Free cancellation)  but I did email Andy at the Guesthouse before I booked VT6, and he has since replied and has  got availability for my dates (November, ages away I know!)

Both have Upsides and maybe downsides,

shame I cannot create a poll, maybe I can but I can’t see an option for it,

So I’m looking for abit of help as I have stayed at neither,  which would you choose...(and why)

Most of my time will be spent in WS.

Nothing beats VT6 for location, that's for sure. Right next to Central Festival, keycard with private entrance/exit to beach road. No cleaners bothering you everyday but easy to arrange cleaning downstairs when you need it. Security easy to bypass when you need to. Love VT6.

There are loads of guesthouses in Pattaya, so absolutely no idea where "Andy at the Guesthouse" is.

As to VT6, if you are planning on spending a lot of time in WS, VT6 location is great. Easy to get to and from WS, direct Baht bus route, there and back, friendly motorbike taxi people (24 hour) outside.

Not too bad a stroll to WS from VT6 along the beach to WS and a stroll back along 2nd road, or the beach should you wish.

Big shopping mall next door and plenty of beer bars opposite.

24 hour 7/11 shop outside at the beach road side.

Soi 7 and 8 bars are steps away.  Soi Made in Thailand right across the road.  LK is about a 15 minute walk.  2nd road baht bus will take you to Soi 6.  Ideal location for all that!

Judging by a previous post by the OP i'm guessing the reference is to Andy the proprietor at the Hideaway on Soi 15,soi buakhaow.

I agree with everything he said, but not all rooms at VT6 were created equal. Some can be very used and run down. Looked at 3 rooms from Honey's and hated them all, but that lady with the office closest to the lifts had some very nice rooms. So choose your room carefully, but it's definitely nicer than a guesthouse.

I’ll second this. Honey’s has always been easy to deal with,  but I just don’t like not knowing which specific room I’ll get.  The OP may want to check Dancewatchers if he wants to be able to select a specific condo.

I’ve done both and enjoyed the feel compared to a hotel as I like being a self sufficient and either of these option work.

VT6 is my go to, I did that for 2 trips (reports in my signature) and loved the location and proximity to everything. Baht bus routes were at your door step with 2 exits or entrances to 2nd rd and beach road accessible.

I think if your a first timer VT6 is a good place to get your bearings and branch out to guest houses as your knowledge base improves.

Vt6 is fantastic and convenient location with plenty of ladies around that area.

Dancewatcher condos is the best around. I stayed there many times allways 5 star

Dancewatchers is good but seems like they're losing rooms fairly quickly. Maybe to AIrBNB or other agents or owners just self managing/selling. Always good quality rooms though as opposed to Honey, which many are run down and definitely not the same kind of amenities in the rooms. But Honey herself is lovely and her branded laundry, cafe etc.. are all good.

If you book on Honey’s site you can choose your room 100%. If you go through an agent then it is not specific.

If you can find a guest house with this view you should take it. I absolutely hate a hotel room with no view when I'm on vacation. I've always had some pretty nice rooms at the VT6

Ignore them and go to the lift.

Most of the time, that doesn’t work ...
They say something to the lady in thai, and ask for ID
And who will start arguing with them when you are waiting for the lift ...
I don’t bother and just let the lady give the ID

Before the elevators, there are stairs. Take them up to the second floor and then take the elevator to whatever floor your room is on.

100%

If you are confident and assertive in your mannerisms they will not question you.

If you are less assertive and allow security personnel to walk all over you, ignore you, and try to give your guest a hard time, you can always use the service lifts situated in the centre of the car park, one level down.

I originally booked the classroom hotel because it's got a bar restaurant, pool etc so it will be an opportunity to meet and socialise with people and generally hang out,and it's got decent size rooms.I cancelled because I though it was a bit pricey booked via booking.com.

I find that if I stay in a hotel that is just rooms I really don't engage with people and start to feel isolated,I don't drink that much anymore so I don't really like the beer bars and I'm not paying Gogo prices.

So I have booked with Andy at the Hideaway,it seems to have stuff going on,it's got LK a couple of minutes away and a few places for a chap to find some relief close by.

I've stayed at both , personally i feel there's very little between the two , the main deciding factor for me  is the price.

booked VT6 via Dancewatchers ,  no hassle whatsoever , big room , great location , fast lifts , big balcony- great view, safe in cupboard ,hot shower, Wi Fi -ok  , paid 1600 pn  in June .

Hideaway  , booked via Andy ( owner )  i book the mirror rooms , private entrance, good location, no lift , big room , balcony ( no view )safe, kettle, hot shower , superb Wi fi, . paid 1000 pn  in October.

Can you book 1 week in both ? then decide for next holiday which you prefer.

If you want to get to Walking Street from the Hideaway what is the best strategy? (Dont say Taxi motorbike!)

Go up to Buakhao and then get a baht bus going back to South Pattaya Road and hope it turns to the water? Then walk it from 2nd road down to the entrance?

That's the best way as far as I know.

I totally get why expats and long-stay holiday makers (+30 nights) would want a condo to rent in the likes of VT6. However the guys who book apartments for a week, I think ...why? Don’t you need the sheets changed daily, maybe occasionally twice daily, what about the towels + cleaning of room. I’ve never stayed there, so if you tell me that you get this sort of hotel type support, then I stand corrected.

Personally, for short holidays I think that hotels are the way to go....that said, we are all different - to each their own.

Hideaway is well placed for WS. Heading out of an evening it’s exactly as you suggest, BB from Buhakow, and coming back, get off the Bus on second rd at the Avenue and walk up Soi 15.
