This is the current state of what had been one of my favorite small Thai restaurants:

I was never sure of the name, but I think it was called Mam's Restaurant.  I got different answers each time I asked about the restaurant's name.

It had been located on Pattaya Klang Soi 12 next door to Jameson's Irish Pub and across the street from the Nova Gold Hotel.  It usually had plenty of customers, Thai and farang,  so I can't imagine it  was a lack of business that caused it to close.

Several people did the cooking, but mostly a Thai male in his 30s.  

They served up really good Thai food for 50-120 baht, depending on the dish and portion size.  There were some farang dishes on the menu (hamburgers, breaded pork steak, spaghetti, etc), but I wasn't much impressed with them except for the warm potato salad with bacon bits, which was delicious at 60 baht.  It was triple the size of the portion of potato salad you get in farang restaurants for 50-60 baht.

I usually had with it with fried chicken wings for 80 baht.

At this point,  I can hear someone ask, "Why is he bothering about a restaurant that's closed?"   It's opened again in an abbreviated form, right beside the vacant lot that was once the old restaurant.

What's now a restaurant had been a combination laundry, storage space and motorcycle repair shop.  Talk about multitasking.

The interior is chaotic to say the least.  What the hell.  It gives the place character.

There are only a few tables.  The older lady who took my order and did the cooking had also worked in the old restaurant.  Although the new place uses the same menu as the old, she made clear to me before I even sat down that only Thai food was available.  

The other member of the crew at the old restaurant have moved on.  The minimalist successor seems to be operated by the older lady and her husband.

I'm sure there is an interesting story, maybe even a sad one, behind the demise of the old restaurant.  There are dozens of "hole-in-wall"  Thai eateries scattered all over Pattaya.  They all serve up Thai food at cheap prices, with some doing a better job of it than others.

I'm not recommending any one make a trip to eat in this restaurant.  The food isn't  oustanding enough to justify a special trip.  You can probably find a similar restaurant  within 200 meters of wherever you are staying or live.   I just find such places fascinating.

The fumes from the cooking really got to me in the new restaurant, so I ordered for take away.

The total cost was 180 baht for all three (60 baht each).

Your tale underlines a real truth, that you've got to enjoy things to-the-full while they're there, as something (you or them !) can & will change, sooner or later.  So focus on building memories, and sharing them with others, as you yourself do !  

I feel much-the-same about a German restaurant in Lamai on Koh Samui, where I used to eat Bauernfruhstuck for breakfast most-days, in the early-90s  ...  Happy Memories are the Best Kind !

That menu has the answer why they fail as many others with the concept everything for everyone. Rule number one: Your strengths in 10 dishes is the concept to go, not 20 pages of frozen shit at least at the farang food section.

I have never understood why thai restaurants have so many farang food varieties, because if you go to thai restaurant, you expect good thai food. I kinda understand why farang restaurants have the overpriced thai food as some punters get their wife of the day in the restauranr and she eats one of the 200bht thai food examples which are 50bht in her favorite spot. That is profit.

Damn! I know that area well as I used to stay in the @Mind Residences and you were right that was a great little spot.

Bugger...used to eat there almost daily when I stayed in Nova Gold a few years ago.   I would simply try something different every day and was never disappointed.  Shame, but I cannot imagine why I would ever go to that out of the way place again.  Nova Gold was ok but  got to be a PIA as it is too far away from places I like.

Recall the traffic around that corner could be bedlam.  MB's flying up, down and around with limited vision.  Maybe it's for roadworks???

Sorry to hear about this guy. I had never been. Remember the good times my man.
