Hi,   Would like to take a look at kanchanaburi for a few days. ,  anyone made the trip from Pattaya. 
 

did you use minivan or vip bus ?

also any recommendations on hotel /resort with swimming  near any action

Are you sure you want to go in a bus or mini van ? You do know how often they come to grief ? 

If you want to enjoy it, hire a car, stop overnight midway and explore, even better if you take a LLT with you I would allow 3 days if you are going from Patts. Can't recall where we stayed, just use Agoda or something when you are ready to find a place for the night. 

Direct bus from pattaya Sai 3 100m on your left after klang crossing. Leaves around 6pm, gets there midnight. 

Nice cheap hotel with pool: Tara guesthouse from 250 baths/night for a double non AC. With AC might be a little higher. They will wait for your midnight arrival if you call them before.
