The girls know every time I take a photo because they can see the speed light flash. There’s no internal flash, which is common in high-end cameras.  I usually use a bounce card in these large exhibition halls but tried a diffuser here.

With the ideal weather today (28 degrees), I spent the afternoon at the Chatuchack Weekend Market.  Haven't seen so much tie dye apparel since a Grateful Dead concert.  I even bought a few items: a new belt and a personalized camera strap.

So, I did another model shoot this week.  I always seem to forget something when going to these shoots.  Last time it was a second set of batteries for the speed light, so I had to switch to a larger aperture.  This time I forgot the second memory card so I had to use my phone camera (I won't include any of those images since beyond the scope of this thread).  Fortunately, I haven't forgotten to take the camera yet, but to prevent future problems I've made a checklist.

Camera: Nikon Z6 (24.3 MP) & Lens Adapter, Backup: Nikon D610 (24.3 MP)

Nikkor Lenses:

   Model Shoots: 24-70mm f/4 S, 50mm f/1.4G ED
   Other: 14-24mm f/2.8G ED, 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR, 55-300mm DX f/4.5-5.6G ED VR

G: electronic diaphragm control, i.e. the f/stop is set from the camera.
   ED: extra-low dispersion glass
   VR: Vibration Reduction
   DX: formatted for APS-C sensor
   S: Mirrorless Z mount

2 XQD Memory Cards (64 GB, 32 GB) for Z6, 2 SDXC Memory Cards for D610 (64 GB, 32 GB)
2 Camera Batteries
Microfiber Cloth
Rocket Blower
Lens Pen
Lens Cleaning Kit
Shower Caps
Camera Bag

External Flash, if required
   Speedlight
   Diffuser
   2 Sets AAA Batteries

Optional

   Tripod, Gorillapod
Remote Shutter Release, Wireless Shutter Release
Filters: UV Filter, Cross Filter, 6-Star Filter, Polarizing Filter

Very professional equipment. Did you go to the shooting site with a truck ? :D

Wonder hat does you decide to use which lens. I see a variety of lenses all the way from 24 - 300 mm. How many times did you change lenses during this shoot or did you use both cameras ?

That’s to protect the equipment in case I get caught in a downpour on the way to the shoot since not all my camera bags have rain covers.

I only use the Z 6 now, love shooting with the touch screen.  Biggest challenge is keeping the camera level, but can correct in post-processing.  For the model shoots, I only use two lenses:  The 24-70 mm f/4 and the 50 mm f/1.4, both are light weight, the other lenses are quite heavy and not really appropriate.  I’ll use the 14-24 mm f/2.8 if I shoot a gymnast or yoga practitioner. :D

Thanks but I’m not a photographer, I’m an engineer.  The most interesting thing about photography are the optics, and if you’re going to do photography there’s no better subject than a Thai woman.

I am currently bidding on a used sony alpha 7r mark 2. I actually spend hours and hours before I decided to go with sony, I bet you know what I mean. I also checked the nikon z6 quite in depth, a great camera!

I decided to go with sony due to the fact that it is much cheaper (used Body, weather sealed, with inbuilt stabilization and 42mp goes for less than 1k usd, probably around 800-900 usd). And I do not have any lenses yet, so I was free to choose any brand.

I also checked some quite knowledgeable boudoir / nudes photographers, to see what lenses they use. I found one guy that has a youtube channel, and some great videos about all that stuff. Search for michael sasser on youtube if you are interested in that. A lot of interesting stuff about boudoir and nudes photography there, and certainly a valuable knowledge ressource for photography newbies like me, and he has some hot models in some of his videos default_biggrin.png

I was very surprised to learn that he uses a simple 50mm f1.4 prime on a full frame camera for 99% of his work...

The other lenses in his kit are a 35mm f1.4 prime and a 85mm f1.8 prime.

Full frame lenses are crazy expensive for the most part, so my kit will consist of used, cheapish lenses only. I am probably gonna go for the following lenses:

-a sony 16-35mm f4.0 zoom - it will be my default travel lens, I like to shoot on the wider side, and it seems to be great for landscape photography as well. If it is getting to heavy, I will switch to one of the primes below after some time.

-a sony 35mm f1.8 prime for nudes / boudoir in close spaces and also street photography. I was thinking about the f1.4 version but it seems too expensive and heavy.

-for the third and last lens, a sony 50 mm f1.8. for portraits /nudes / boudoir and street. If I switch to aps-c mode, it will give me a 75mm lens f2.7, which I can use If I have more space. Same here, the f1.4 versions are really heavy and expensive, so I'll pass on them.

Hopefully some day, I can share some nice photos of beautiful women as well!

Btw, tips about this kit are very welcome, maybe there is something to improve!

You did already a lot of thinking and that's half the fun.

I have a Nikon D7200 camera. Slightly outdated, I know. I want to replace this one by the successor of the D750 (expected early next year) assuming the reviews are good. I hope my lenses will fit, otherwise I will reconsider. My favorite lens during travel is a Tamron 18 - 400 mm f / 3.5 - 6.3. I usually make landscape pictures. So far i was not really successful in making pictures of persons.

My kit is heavy, I know, but I can do with it what I want.

Have a look at the Sigma art series , 35/50/85 fast lenses with great quality that easily outperform the original Nikon Canon Sony lenses . Picked up a 50/1.4 a few months ago and amazed by the pic quality and solid build . They're a bit heavy though .

BTW, I’m glad I didn’t invest in any third party lenses because the autofocus in all my legacy Nikkor lenses work great through the adapter and this is a major problem with third party lenses.  But, who knows, maybe with a firmware upgrade...?  I don’t have the best eyesight and can’t rely on manual focus so I’m very happy with how the lenses work with the new camera.

Thats a bit of an issue with the older sony lenses, some just do not seem to work great using and adapter, but it is a no issue for me, because I do not have any older lenses. However, some great older lenses and newer lenses with the A mount can be bought for very cheap, so I am still evaluating everything, I might buy one if I find a great deal.

Did you check out the new fokus peaking feature of the Z6 already? It seems to be one of the strengths of this camera, and makes it very easy to get focus on exactly what you want with manual focus, possibly even with not too great eyesight.

Great tip on that lens Jerry! seriously considering picking up a used one, when I find a good deal. It looks like an absolute beast in terms of quality. Only issue is the weight, but considering that this will probably be the most important lens of the kit, it seems worth it.

No, I haven’t tried this yet since I don’t typically use manual focus but I’ll experiment with it for fun next time I do any macro photography.  Thanks for mentioning, I never heard of this!

Finally someone who shows what qualities a certain camera/lens and he as a photographer has . To many threads with only talk about 'this camera' and 'that lens' but hardly any pictures to back things up .
People going into extreme details that are often completely irrelevant but on the other hand don't know how to shoot a good pic and/or know in what situation to use what settings .

Been selling photo gear for 25+ years and the number of times i bought back pro/semi pro cameras with only a few hundred clicks on them after 2/3 years was ridiculous . People thinking buying expensive
pro gear would turn them into a pro photographer ... not . Learn about the basics , shoot loads of pics on different settings and learn from your mistakes is imo the only way to become a good photographer .
An eye for detail and composition helps as well . A good camera is helping of course but people often spend crazy amounts of money on lenses , cameras , cards and stupid accessories that are far above
their needs . Knowing how to use the gear is far more important .

Keep your photo gear out and ready , don't lock it away in a bag somewhere in a closet .

Well done Piece Corp .

Here’s an interesting offer from Nikon.  Try out the Nikon Z50 for 30 days, 20 MP with APS-C sensor (priced under a thousand bucks), and if you’re not satisfied you can return for a full refund, shipping included.  With the improvements in phone cameras, companies like Nikon face increasing pressure and declining revenue.

With regards to used gear, I’ll be putting my Nikon D610 up for sale.  Has 73,908 shutter activations, should be good for at least 150,000.  I have the box and everything that came with it, bought it at AV Center in MBK five years ago for 47,500.  PM me, if interested.  Here’s a review:

That is quite a deal. If my D300s didn't spend so much of it's time in a bag in the closet I'd be very interested. :-)
