Michael John Taylor AKA Mick the Pom AKA Mick the Dog dies in Kampot

This may stir some memories amongst BM's of a somewhat controversial chappie from Hull in the UK - he 'supposedly' murdered his Thai gf in Phuket in 2004, got bail somehow and absconded to the PI for quite a few years before moving to Snooky in Cambodia and finally to the coastal Cambodian city of Kampot. I saw him around a fair bit - usually drinking beer from mid-morning at Brit deathpat venues like the Badgers Arse. He was a devisive character with as many admirers as detractors.Anyway I have trolled back thru several sources and forums and will collate it all here.

UPDATE: Mick ‘The Pom’ Dies At Kampot ‘Moto Mayhem’

Kampot: A source in Kampot reports that a foreign male died while racing at Kampot’s ‘Moto Mayhem’event at Kampot Stadium.

The source says the man was racing when he appeared to suffer a heart attack on his motorcycle. After coming off, medics performed CPR before he was whisked away to hospital, but (quote) ‘Didn’t look very alive’.

Organizers and spectators identified the man only as ‘Dog’* and described as ‘old and white’.

Moto Mayhem is a regular feature in Kampot, where machines up to 125cc are raced in different categories.

UPDATE: Sources at the scene now say that the man was infamous British national Mick ‘The Pom/The Dog’ Taylor

He was pronounced dead on arrival at Sonja Kill Hospital, Kampot, from a heart attack.

Updates to follow. (Images from FACEBOOK)

‘MURDER ME? NEVER! I HAVE A WATER TIGHT ALIBI’

Michael+Taylor+-+Mick-the-Pom.jpg
(Picture Michael Taylor)

BRIT ACCUSED OF MURDER IN THAILAND SAID HE WAS HAVING SEX WITH LADY BOY AT THE TIME.
BUT HE ELOPED ALONE.

Mick the Dog was too busy to talk last night. A receptionist at his bar cum guest house in the Philippines said: ‘ He’s right here…(pause phone covered) I don’t think he can talk to a British journalist from Bangkok right now. There is a party on’.

Mick, real name Michael John Taylor, 50, from Hull, was down on the beach at Pundaquit , four hours north of Manila, seemingly quite aware of a row about him in Thailand on the island of Phuket from where he fled a charge of murder.

Taylor, known apparently in Phuket as ‘Mick the Pom’ skipped bail a long time ago.  He had denied a charge of stabbing his Thai girlfriend to death in the home they shared on Chalong Beach in Phuket – and produced a rather unique alibi.

Janta+Waengta.jpg
Jantra

At the time of the murder, he said, he was drinking at a lady boy bar, which led him to have sex on the beach with a lady boy.

Pol Maj Jessada Sangsuree, inspector of Chalong Police Station, said at the time: “We have eight statements that suggest Mr Taylor is the murderer. The court issued an arrest warrant, but he still denies the accusation.”

Further, after sex , he took the lady boy home with him and they both discovered the body of his girlfriend 27-year-old Jantra Waengta together.  Jantra had been stabbed to death.  Her body was on the bed of their rented home near Chalong Pier, Phuket.

Taylor also brought the lady boy, 21-year-old Fonnoi Khonsau, with him to the police station to corroborate his story.

Dr.Porntip.jpg
But everyone else is
keeping shtum!

Police said they now had 13 witnesses lined up including Dr. Pornthip Rojasanund, Thailand’s top forensic pathologist. Nearby, police said, they had found a Bowie knife and a pair of bloodstained trousers – which they claimed were his.

That was nine years ago in August 2004. But now the local newspaper the Phuket Gazette has reacted with undsiguised fury that this alleged killer is roaming free in another Asian beach paradise.

‘Mick’ screamed the headline today was now living in the ‘sunny Philippines’, an unfortunate choice perhaps in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan.

Taylor had posted the equivalent of £10,000 bail in the form of a land title deed and merely hopped it at an opportune moment. In fact he had even skipped a remand hearing and not taken into custody for being in breach of bail. Apparently he had lost his mobile phone and had to report it missing to police!

The Phuket Gazette claimed he had been spotted in England and more recently he surfaced in Zambales Province north of Manila where he runs his ‘Dogs Offshore bar’.

Dogs+Offshore+Bar2.PNG
Dogs Offshore bar. ‘Dogs Welcome But Wives Must Be Kept On Leash’

The local newspaper appears angry with the British Embassy, whom they seem to suggest gave him a new passport to escape with (This won’t be a first  but the British Government controls British passports not the Thai government) and also with the prosecutor and the police.  The court did issue a warrant for his arrest – but it seems it was never acted upon. This of course also happens with British warrants for arrest for citizens who ;move’ abroad. (Notable Darren Oxley and Brian Goudie)

Dogs+Offshore+Bar.PNG

According to the ‘Gazette’ the prosecutor said it was a police matter, but the police said it was a prosecution matter – Thailand’s Attorney General would have to seek extradition.

Said Chalong Police Superintendent Kritapas Daztharasorn : “The police have done their job. The suspect was arrested and they brought him to the prosecutor.”

Phuket Provincial Chief Public Prosecutor Chiengsean Panhya said: “ Arresting a fugitive is a matter for police.”

Taylor’s new life in the Philippines would have gone unnoticed had he not allegedly started threatening local expats.  He has apparently made friends with the local Philipinnes NBI (National Bureau of Investigation)  and they seem totally disinterested in complaints about him.

Sometimes it can take a sum of money to arouse an Asian policeman from his slumber.

“ Many of us don’t want him here,” said one local expat. “But the warrant for his arrest has expired and no request has been made by the Thai authorities.  It seems we are saddled with him. he has even boasted in his bar about getting away with murder.”

It seems that the boast of the arm of the law being very long, often quoted by international, does not apply to vast swathes of the globe – and this is one of them.

And if no attempt has been made to extradite Taylor so far – now ten years on it does not look like it is going to happen.

Nobody seems to want to go after him.

This very often means that a payment has been made. A payment may also have been made to the family of his late girlfriend,  but if she was from one of Thailand’s poorest provinces, she may not have been considered important enough.

These payments would not necessarily be a confession of guilt. But it would be a punishment for being caught in this sort of situation.  The lack of police action indicates the lack of will to do so.

There appear to be no outraged police.

Dogs+Offshore+Bar3.PNG

He has merely relocated from one tropical paradise to another. It’s not the first time. Many foreigners suffering from ‘the heat’ in Thailand head for the Philippines- and vice versa. It’s a well beaten trial.

Is accused murderer "Mick the Pom" living in Cambodia?

Post by gavinmac » Tue Dec 15, 2015 9:59 am

I ran across something interesting on Facebook a few weeks back that I've been meaning to post about. Back in August 2004, a British guy named Michael Taylor (aka Mick Taylor, aka "Mick the Pom") was arrested for murder in Phuket, Thailand.

Image

He allegedly fatally stabbed his girlfriend, Jantra Weangta, through the heart. She was found dead in the rented bungalow they shared. Taylor denied the charge and claimed to have an alibi. His alibi was -- and I’m not making this up -- that he was having sex with a ladyboy on the beach at the time of the murder.

The press reported that the evidence against Taylor included bloody trousers, a large Bowie knife, and thirteen witnesses. The news reports did not say whether the trousers or knife belonged to Taylor, or if there were fingerprints or blood on the knife, or what the thirteen witnesses claimed to know about the murder.

Image

Taylor appeared in court for a hearing in January 2005, but his case was adjourned until October 2006 so that the parties could have more time to interview witnesses and examine the evidence. In 2006, the Thais granted Taylor bail after he posted the title to land worth 400,000 baht. Not surprisingly, after being released on bail, Taylor skipped a subsequent court hearing and disappeared.

Apparently, Taylor moved to Pundaquit, Philippines, where he began operating a bar called Dog's Offshore bar. In October 2013, the Phuket Gazette reported that Taylor was living openly in the Philippines, using the names "Mick Doggard" or "Mick the Dog.”

Image

A few weeks later, someone opened a Facebook account under the name Jantra Weangta for the purpose of trolling Taylor and advocating for “Justice for Jantra.”

Image

Image

In March 2014, Taylor was arrested in the Philippines for overstaying his visa, and the Philippines authorities detained him pending extradition to Thailand on the murder charge.

That’s where things get really weird. About a month later, the Bangkok Post and Taylor’s hometown newspaper, the Hull Daily Mail, reported that Thai police were “too busy” to extradite him. I can’t find any press coverage about Taylor after April 2014. As far as I can tell, no one has ever reported on Taylor being released from detention in Philippines, or being extradited to Thailand,or being deported to the United Kingdom.

Fast forward to a few months ago. On October 21, 2015, Facebook troller “Jantra Weangta” posted a screenshot of an October 1 Facebook status update by “Mick Doggard.” The "Mick Doggard" account appears to be a legitmate Facebook account used by Mick Taylor since 2012. His October 1, 2015 status update contained two photos of a beach and said "another hard day on the beach."

Image

“Jantra Weangta” suggested that the above beach photos in Mick Doggard’s (i.e. Taylor’s) status update are of Sihanoukville and that this is where Doggard/Taylor is residing.

Doggard/Taylor then responded on October 22, “Who ever make this site could u please keep up to date I am in Thailand now and have no problem with friends or police.”

Image

How in the world could Taylor be living openly in Thailand, with no problems with the police, after jumping bail there for murdering a Thai woman? Have the Thais dropped the charges, due to evidence being lost during the time Taylor spent on the lam? Did the Philippines simply release Taylor after learning that Thailand wouldn’t extradite him? Why wasn’t Taylor's release reported on by all the press outlets that had covered the legal proceedings against him?

I don’t know if the beach in Doggard/Taylor’s October Facebook status update is in Sihanoukville, or if Taylor ever lived there or still lives there. I do know that last year, a totally unreliable Khmer440 poster named “Stains”
posted that “Mick the Pom” was a “solid bloke” and ex-drinking buddy who “checked out Snooky and PP to set up shop after he bailed from Thailand.”

I recently sent a Facebook message myself to the “Jantra Weangta” account asking how he/she knows that Taylor is in Cambodia, and I received a dickish reply calling me lazy and saying “he’s either in Sihanoukville or Phnom Penh.”

That is Cove Beach or what used to be Cove Beach (they may have changed owners) or next door at Lucy in the Sky.

One thing worth mentioning here is that the Mick Doggard FB account is closed to only his close friends, and that the SHV pic above was posted on that, but somehow leaked.

Given he is using a fake name and posting stuff to only (presumably trusted) mates, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that he posted it thinking he was safe. Then it was released, and he immediately goes to the Jantra account to say 'nahhhh, I'm in Thailand. Honest injun.'

 by gavinmac » Tue Dec 15, 2015 10:55 am

Well, he doesn't say that Weangta's identification of the beach as Sihanoukville in his October 1 photo is wrong.

He posted on October 22 that Weangta should stay "up to date" and that he was "now" in Thailand.

If the Thais wanted to try him for murder, he would have been extradited from the Philippines. Assuming he didn't escape from a Filipino prison, and that they let in fact released him, it very well may be that the Thais have quietly dropped the charges.

I like this ad for his bar in the Philippines, especially the bit about the first beer being free before 8am. If he is in Sihanoukville, he will fit in well.

Just received by email from a lurker:  "As I don't post was not concerned just wanted to confirm a sighting re Mad Mick / Mad Dog. Thought you we like to know he is staying on Serendipity Beach, drinking enjoying life and does not seem to have a care in the world

People called Mad Mick from Hull should be driving lorries up and down the M1, not drinking cold beer in a tropical beach paradise.

No. The guy running the Jantra account is an Australian. Look at the screenshot of the pics from Sihanoukville posted in gavinmac's OP . . it is from a mobile using a vodaphone australia subscription.

Perhaps that lurker could tell you how recent that sighting is. It does appear that Taylor was in Sihanoukville as of October 1, but then he posted on October 22 that he was in Thailand "now."

Either that was a lie, or maybe he's moving freely between the two countries.

OK. Maybe it's possible that there are still pending murder charges against him in Thailand, but they were just too cheap/lazy/incompetent to extradite him from the Philippines. That would mean he still can't go back to Thailand, and if he got kicked out of the Philippines for visa overstay, then it's hello Sihanoukville.
I wonder how he makes a living. Do establishments in Sihanoukville require payment in cash, or do the expats there just pay for things with cigarette butts and tears?

Here's a little more info from a different FB account. This guy posted on October 17 that he got Taylor deported to the UK but that Taylor returned to Southeast Asia -- to Sihanoukville. Not sure if this guy is also behind the "Jantra Weangta" account.

It turns out that "Above Us Only Sky" beach bar/guesthouse has a Facebook page. They sometimes post photos on that Facebook page of their staff and guests. I just looked through their photos to see if there were any photographs of aging, bald, tattooed, singlet-wearing guests who could be "Mick the Pom". It turns out that all their staff and guests look like that.
Anyway, they posted a photo of some guys sitting around the bar on November 4, about two weeks after "Mick Doggard" posted on Facebook that he wasn't living in Cambodia.
Tell me if anyone in the photo looks particularly familiar.

Then it made the UK press

Fugitive British murder suspect who denied stabbing his Thai girlfriend to death 'because he was having sex with a ladyboy at the time' is living a new life in Cambodia, claim ex-pats

  • Michael Taylor, 51, arrested over murder of his girlfriend in Phuket in 2004
  • He claimed he was having sex with ladyboy on beach at time of the killing
  • Offshore worker went on the run to the Philippines after being granted bail
  • Was arrested for overstaying visa last year, but fled before his extradition
  • Expat website claims he is 'drinking, enjoying life' on a Cambodian beach

By RICHARD SHEARS FOR MAILONLINE

PUBLISHED: | UPDATED:

A British murder suspect who went on the run after being accused of murdering his Thai girlfriend 11 years ago is believed to be living the high life in Cambodia.

Speculation is rife among the expatriate community that Michael Taylor, an offshore worker from Hull, has relocated to the sunny south coast of the country.

The 51-year-old, dubbed 'Mick the Pom' Taylor, was arrested over the murder of his 27-year-old girlfriend, Jantra Weangta, in the Thai resort of Phuket in August 2004 after allegedly stabbing her through the heart in the bungalow they shared.

His astonishing alibi was that he was having sex with a ladyboy on the beach at the time of the killing.

But Thai police insisted he was the killer, producing a pair of bloody trousers, a large Bowie knife and bringing together 13 witnesses, although details about the evidence against him was still due to be heard.

In the meantime, the Briton was brought back to court in January 2005, but the case was adjourned for an extraordinary 21 months until October 2006 so that witnesses could be interviewed and the evidence could be examined in detail.

Taylor was granted bail – and then he disappeared, later turning up in the Philippines where he operated a bar called Dog's Offshore bar and Resort.

According to Thailand's Phuket Gazette, Taylor was living openly in the Philippines, using the names 'Mick Doggard' and 'Mick the Dog'.

A poster for his Philippines premises portrayed photos of two dogs and declared that dogs were welcomed but 'wives must be on leash or under control.'

An unknown person opened a Facebook account under his murdered girlfriend's name and wrote: 'My ghost will not rest while those tasked with justice ignore me. Do I deserve to be dead?

'Where are my countrymen? Where are my comrades? Where, oh where is justice for Jantra Weangta?'

The Cambodian ex-patriate website Khmer440, tipped off today that Taylor was living in the southern Sihanoukville area, has tracked Taylor's movements, establishing that he was arrested in the Philippines in March 2014 for overstaying his visa.

He was held pending extradition to Thailand on the murder accusation.

But Thai police appeared to be in no hurry to ask for his extradition and Taylor disappeared from public view.

The Hull Daily Mail reported in April last year that the case had 'provoked uproar in Thailand' with questions being asked of both the British and Thai authorities after Taylor was allowed to slip through the nets.

Now evidence has arisen strongly suggesting that 'Mick the Pom' is in Cambodia.

Khmer440 reported today that what appeared to be a legitimate Facebook account used by Taylor contains two photos of a beach, posted on October 1, 2015, with the caption: 'Another hard day on the beach.'

The photos have been identified by the expatriate website as portraying a bar and bungalows in Sihanoukville called Above Us Only Sky.

An anonymous person also sent the group an email claiming that 'Mad Mick' was staying on Serendipity Beach, near Sihanoukville 'drinking, enjoying life and does not seem to have a care in the world.'

Another ex-pat asked if Sihanoukville was waiting to find out if they were going to be 'knifed through the heart tonight.'

Another writer later suggested that 'people called Mad Mick from Hull should be driving lorries up and down the M1, not drinking cold beer in a tropical beach paradise.'

So how does he manage to travel, when they have his passport?

The British Embassy in Bangkok has refused to confirm or deny whether or not he re-entered the UK after he absconded from Thailand, and neither that embassy nor the British embassy in Manila nor the Home Office in the UK have explained to the Gazette how Taylor continues to travel abroad.

Taylor’s lawyer, Somsak “Sam” Chattay, confirmed to the Gazette in 2006 that Taylor’s passport was held at the Chalong Police Station during the trial.

The Gazette has a copy of Taylor’s previous passport, showing it was due to expire on June 12 this year. For Taylor to be legally travelling today as a British national, he must have been issued a new passport by the UK authorities while he was still wanted for murder in Thailand

Sihanoukville hosts Brit wanted for murder

 | Publication date 17 December 2015 | 07:02 ICT

A British national wanted in Thailand for the 2004 murder of his then-girlfriend on the resort island of Phuket is currently residing in Sihanoukville, though Cambodian authorities are not presently seeking his arrest, police officials said yesterday.

Seng Saroeun, deputy chief of provincial immigration police in Preah Sihanouk province, said yesterday that Michael Taylor – who had been jailed in Thailand over the stabbing death of his girlfriend Jantra Weangta, but reportedly left the country while free on bail – was living on the Cambodian coast.

“This man has been staying in Cambodia now. He is staying in Preah Sihanouk province,” Saroeun said in an interview yesterday. “He worked as a businessman at a resort.”

However, Lieutenant General Lim Sokha Reaksmey, head of Cambodian Interpol, said that while the two countries often cooperate on extradition matters, no action would be taken in Taylor’s case unless a request was received from Thailand.

“So far, our Cambodian Interpol has not received any request for cooperation from Thai Interpol regarding this case,” he said. “So police will not take action against him or arrest him unless he is committing crimes in Cambodia.”

I've received some information today saying Mick Doggard / Taylor works offshore from Scotland (presumably in the oil industry). Most of those guys work a month and take a month off, so maybe he is semi-living in Cambodia and flies in every month or so. I don't know. The source also claims that the guy has contacts in the British Home Office which explains how he was able to get a passport while effectively on the lam for murder having surrendered his passport while on bail from the Thai charges. That seems a stretch, but who know.

He also says that his is absolutely paranoid about privacy at the moment, hates having his picture taken and has gotten paranoid now that it's become apparent he is in Cambodia.

Caveat: the source isn't known to me. He seems to be one of a group of guys around the world who have been monitoring where he is, and he seems to have known him while he had his bar in the Philippines.

"Username Taken" pointed out on the other forum that Mick the Pom's lair, "Above Us Only Sky," was the place recently owned by fugitive Australian mafia boss, Nick Ciconte:

We discussed Ciconte in this thread. I wonder who owns the place now. I received a report that Mick the Pom has been staying there for at least several months, perhaps longer.

Aussie ‘mafioso’ dies in capital

 and  | Publication date 11 July 2013 | 23:36 ICT

A CONVICTED Australian mafia affiliate with connections to the Italy-based Calabrian mafia, Nicola “Nick” Ciconte, 58, has passed away in Cambodia, the Australian Embassy confirmed.

Ciconte was sentenced in absentia in May of last year to 25 years in an Italian prison for attempting to smuggle 500 kilograms of cocaine sourced from Colombian drug cartels into Australia from 2002 to 2004.

Anticipating extradition to Italy, Ciconte moved to Sihanoukville last year, according to Australian media outlets, where he ran a guesthouse named Above Us Only Sky. Calls to the guesthouse rang through.

An Australian Embassy spokesman confirmed the death yesterday – which Australian newspaper the Courier-Mail reported took place in Phnom Penh from pneumonia – but said he could not comment further.

“The Australian Embassy is aware of the death and is providing consular assistance to the man’s next of kin,” he said.

Officials with the National Police, Immigration Police in Preah Sihanouk and Phnom Penh, and the Ministry of Interior’s Internal Security Police unanimously denied being aware of his presence in the country.

My girlfriend and I took some time out to do some backpacking and travel the world. We went to some incredible places and met interesting people but our most interesting story is probably this one.

As I said above we went all over, myanmar, Bolivia, Mexico many places that have some “unsafe” reputations. However we are both pretty good at reading people and staying out of trouble so we never had any major incidents. We were on a fairly tight budget at this point in our journey as we had recently been to japan and wanted to chill for a bit before finding some work in Vietnam. We decided to volunteer on a Cambodian island, koh rong samloem, its a bit of a luxury island full of resorts that we couldn’t normally afford to stay at so seemed like a good gig.

I worked behind the bar at this resort and my girlfriend worked in the restaurant. In return we got to sleep in the dorm and our own meals for free.

The manager told me that since I was working behind the bar and Scottish an English guy who lived on the island would likely come and see me and that his name was dog...

It didn’t take long for this to take place. A fairly old guy in his late fifties early 60’s came into the bar, he was quite tall and still powerfully built and was accompanied by a massive Rottweiler which he quickly told me was also called Dog. We had a bit of a laugh taking the piss out of each other, he was making fun of me being Scottish and I was making fun of him going by the name dog and being English standard British bullshit.

I noticed he was always wearing wife beaters which said “dogs offshore bar” and had a picture of his dog the Rottweiler on it.

I got to know more about Dog the man, he used to work in construction and offshore, as did I so we had quite a bit to talk about. And heaps of opportunity to talk as he usually arrived for his first beer at 7 am he was clearly an alcoholic. But he never struck me as a bad person early on just a sadly complicated one like when you talk to someone who’s homeless.

Anyone who’s ever been to vietnam/Thailand/Cambodia or any south East Asian country will understand how rare it is to see a dog that’s not some kind of street mut or tiny pet. Dog’s huge dog would stand out even in Europe however. Even for a Rottweiler it was huge. Massively muscular with a metal chain to give some semblance of control if it was to kick off.

I really like dogs so was quite interested in what this huge dog was doing on the island and always made sure to have some water out for it. It was friendly enough but never left his owners side and seemed to be a working dog in terms of its intensity it was clearly a guard dog.

It turned out the dog was actually a Finnish drug dealers dog and that Dog (the person)had bought him. He told me the dog had an attack command and he kept him primed by using it often on other island dogs. He told me it had killed multiple dogs this way. I didn’t believe this at first but there was an island dog the manager would often leave food out for and this dog would come near the bar usually when Dogs monster dog wasn’t about but that night he must have been hungry enough to brave it and Dog hissed the command and the Rottweiler bounded for the island dog knocking over chairs and all sorts until he was called off it was pretty scary.

One night I was sat at the bar talking with Dog about this job I would be taking on soon at a digital marketing company. I was in talks with the CEO at this company at the time it was for a digital marketing job in which I would work from home or coffee shops updating and improving websites. He said it sounded made up and that the company was likely some kind of con to get my bank details. I told him it was a real company and that I had googled it. He was really drunk at this point and the restaurant was now closed so my girlfriend joined us and we were all having a beer at the bar.

He told my girlfriend how I believed everything I read online and how I shouldn’t do that. He said people publish all kinds of made up shit on there and I asked what he was referring to and he said “never google me” so I was like how could I google you your name is “dog”

“if I googled you I would just see a picture of an Alsatian.”

But then I remembered those tops he wore, dogs offshore bar so I told him “I am going to google you, laughing”

He was getting quite annoyed but at This point other than owning a weaponised canine I thought he was pretty harmless.

I was wrong, I began reading out load the interesting things I found out about his bar and related sorties one of particular interest was about a conviction. The joking and laughing stopped and I quickly stopped reading out loud. I looked quickly to my girlfriend and I could see the smile leave her face as she realised we were drinking with a killer.

It turned out this guy had murdered his Thai wife and then been briefly imprisoned before paying bail (you can pay bail for murder In Thailand) and then feeling the country before trial. He had stabbed her and his alibi to the police was that he couldn’t have killed her because he was fucking a lady boy on the beach at the time....

He told us that he had been framed and that his wife’s ex was in the police and he had killed her for moving on etc etc. I was nodding along to everything he said and trying my best to show that I agreed with him whilst making sure the machete I used to open up coconuts for cocktails was in easy reach should his beast be given any command words.

He told us about how hard it was being one of the few white guys in Thai prison, how he had to attack guards to get into solitary confinement and they then beat him mercilessly, he told us they used to leave shanks in his room and put him in the yard with paedophiles for him to kill. He told us that he had killed before he went to prison and that he killed while he was inside but he did not kill his wife.

His wife was a Thai prostitute he met while trafficking women from Thailand to Singapore on his boat, the same one he used to flee Thailand after his arrest and set up his bar, dogs offshore bar with the tag line dogs welcome wife’s must be kept on leashes or under control....

We both acted like we believed him and eventually he left. The whole night however I was waiting next to the door for him and his dog to come for us, I even propped a bin up against the door so anyone coming in would knock it over so we would maybe have a chance to react. I nearly attacked my friend when he came in haha it was fucked.

We quickly decided to leave after this and only saw Dog again once more. My girlfriend was opening a can of coconut milk for a curry and he came by and jokingly asked if she needed a knife and he patted his back pocket.

The guy is known as mick the Pom or mick the dog if you want to google this. If you google dogs offshore bar you’ll see what I did.

He was living on a tent on the island with his dog keeping watch while he slept. I’m not sure if he’s still there now but Dog lets not meet again.

For whatever reason; the Thai's obviously don't want him.

Maybe they don't have the case they once thought they had. Either way, if I see him around Kampot and we speak, I'll ask him.

Right now, it just looks like ancient history being pointlessly dug up over and over.

The Thais may not want him now, but they did want him in 2005 when they arrested him and sought to try him based on the strength of the evidence against him -- the bloody clothes, the knife, the 13 witnesses.

Taylor wanted no part of a trial that would have evaluated evidence and made a determination of his guilt or innocence. Instead, he jumped bail, fled the country, and hid for years. He hid for so long that the Thais apparently lost the evidence or decided they no longer cared about seeking justice for the lower class woman he was accused of killing.

Some Kampot expats seem to be more or less giving him high fives and saying "well played Mick, you beat the rap, have another beer"

Would they be as accepting of him if he had fled child molestation charges in Thailand? My guess is no. It seems they just think it's really cool to drink with a guy who jumped bail on charges of murdering a woman.

The victim's family and friends are still looking for answers so it's not pointless for them. Must be terrible to know that the woman's killer (whoever it is) remains unpunished.

And "skipping bail" in SEA is often a way of saying that you paid the authorities to look the other way. However, the guy still has a valid UK passport apparently, that must have been renewed by the UK authorities since 2004, so officially it's all good. He is now presumably obeying the laws of Cambodia, and of course has a correct business visa for Cambodia and a work permit too.
“So far, our Cambodian Interpol has not received any request for cooperation from Thai Interpol regarding this case,” he said. “So police will not take action against him or arrest him unless he is committing crimes in Cambodia.”

If he did kill her then I'm glad karma has caught up with him. If he didn't, then RIP.
