Where I live, it’s just a short walk to Soi Cowboy and/or Nana Plaza.

What's your definition of real money?

I'm not aware of any expats that have relocated to pattaya with a $100mm USD bankroll.

Tbf, this guy also rates Canterbury and Queenstown which the same could be said.

Koh Samui is the only place on his list that appeals to me.

$5M would get you ~$225k per year on interest alone without digging into the principal. More than enough for Manhattan.

I agree with choosing a base though, no need to settle in to one spot when you have fuck you money and there's the whole world to see.

$10k a month rent for something half decent, not even spectacular!

Not enough for me, i'm afraid lol

Speaking for myself as a middle class person I would say

  1. Pattaya
  2. Angeles City PI
  3. Not sure on this, maybe Bangkok or Jakarta?
  4. Phnom Pen? Phuket?

I know the top 2 but after that it gets fuzzy.

Is the OP mixing up two separate things here..? Where you could afford to live if you had big money is not necessarily the same as where you would choose to live.

For example, London. If I had big money I wouldn't choose to live there even though I could afford to.

I am a city dweller and my choice would be central London - where I live. New York,  second. Paris, third (if I were fluent). Amsterdam, fourth.

I stayed in Perth for 10 days 10 years ago.

Attractive beaches but so isolated from other cities and very quiet.

You wouldn’t get that much interest. And even if you did, $225k a year is fuck all living in Manhattan.

I would stay in Sydney. Amazing weather, world class beaches, a nice multicultural mix of attractive women and most of the benefits of the large international cities listed above with nicer people.

Plus it’s a relatively cheap 9 hour direct flight to Thailand.

I’ve lived in New York. It’s amazing for a while but it gets old. Plus it’s freezing cold in winter, crazy expensive and full of arseholes whose sole focus is work and status.

Queensland has some better places.  I like the Whitsunday coast,  and also Port Douglas.

Byron Bay is in NSW .... used to be a hang out for drifters, hippies, etc .... now it all got trendy and popular .... Gold Coast is in Queensland .... Gold Coast is much better .... unless you seek an alternative life ....
