Thai Airways at Swampy

Flying to LOS with Thai for very first time after 20 something previous trips so just a couple of questions if I may:

  • Do Thai use the A,B and C gates exclusively?
  • Do Thai ever use remote / bus gates instead of airbridges? if so, where does the bus drop you in proximity to immigration?

When I’ve flown Thai it’s always been a ‘C’ gate. ‘A’ gates are Domestic. Not sure if ‘B’ are international or domestic - I think domestic but not sure. I’ve never had to use a bus with any airline at Suvarnabhumi so you’ll be unlucky if you do.

I use thai from australia and get a bus nearly every time. The bus drops you right at immigration. Get out of the bus and go up the escalator - immigration is right there so no walking

Yes they use buses often. It's a bit hit and miss. As the countries own carrier I find this somewhat embarrassing.

Guess I’ve been lucky never to use them then :)

Go to the Thai Forum on flyertalk and there's plenty of discussion about it.

I traveled in F a few years ago and got mini-vanned to the gate but as Mr Wombat says immigration is pretty near so saves a walk.

I have found that for Thai Airways domestic flights, it's not that much more expensive to fly Business class. The price difference might be just $30 or so. Of course, Business class on a short domestic flight is not going to be that great, but, especially on an Airbus 330, you will have a better seat, a better meal, access to the Royal Orchid Lounge (useful for those long flight delays), board first, and get more miles for your FF plan.

Many Thai flights don't offer Business class. Thai Smile has a Premium Economy wannabe "Thai Smile Plus" that puts you in the front of the plane and has slightly better food, and lounge access, but that's about it.

The BKK Thai Airways domestic lounge is not that great, either. It's old and worn.

I flew internationally on Thai Air a few months ago and had to ride the bus to the gate for the first time. From there it was a long walk to immigration. Usually their gates are a bit closer.

Not sure if this helping the OP if he is flying in 'international, not domestic.

Every time over the years when I had to take a bus from the plane, always stopped near the stairs up to the immigration are.

Two arrivals ago at Swampy I flew in with Cebu Pacific i was dreading the long walk in the terminal to Immigration. To my surprise we were parked directly across from Immigration. 1 Min away.

Fast forward a month ago flew in on Thai Air and we were miles away  go figure.

That bus is cute until some "important" person comes in at the same time ... I once spend 90 minutes on the bus while we waited for one of them to get situated.  Rather walk a mile, but that’s just me.

The remote parking should cease after the expansion project is completed, I think its either an additional 26 or 28 gates.

Great remember to take your hiking shoes

Ps ... on domestic you get the bus 75% of the time in my experience.

My last arrival parked at a gate. But, once we left the aircraft, we walked down some stairs to a waiting bus.
