Chow Soy - (Soi Chaiyapoon) Sure it’s not the best chinese restaurant but for location and price is a good value. I like to eat Lemon Chicken here specially after pay a visit to one of Amon’s girls 

 

Leng Kee - (Pattaya klang) Famous chinese restaurant. It has a huge selection of dishes. I like to eat Duck here. Good place.

Fu Man Lou - (near Soi 6) I discovered this place last trip when my friends wanted to eat something before go Soi 6. Genuine chinese restaurant. The waitress recommended us some sort of Dumpling’s soup and it was delicious.

IMHO There is no good chinese food in pattaya. I've been looking for Kung pao chicken ever since that Chinese place turned into Steak and Co, but I've never found it. Chow soy has a decent chicken and cashew nuts, but it's just not the same as Kung pao.

Jous nailed it in one mate. Chow Soy great value and Leng Kee best roast duck. If you don't want to eat inside they even do duck take away.

For me, any trip to Patts would not be complete without at least one roast duck lunch at Leng Kee.

Used to be a regular in Leng Kee for over 20 years don’t bother any more the restaurant food quality has gone down hill

and the prices rapidly up hill.

Have you tried the MK restaurant chain version  much  better in my opinion and the sauce that comes with the duck is absolutely delicious

Correct, on both points.

Plus, they are using far too much MSG nowadays also, which never used to be the case.

@hotfunguy  That is an important question.  Are you looking for U.S.- or U.K.-style Chinese food or the food you'd get in restaurants in mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, etc.?  There's a huge difference.  Many people who say they "love" the Chinese food they get in their home countries don't like non-Westernized versions at all.

Kung pao chicken is a prime example.  The classic Sichuan dish is vastly different to what goes under the under the same name in the U.S. or U.K.  In Pattaya, Grandma's Home on Soi13/3 near 2nd Road  has traditional gong bao ji ding on the menu.

Grandma's Home is a step above a hole-in-the-wall restaurant as it is enclosed and air conditioned, but it sure isn't fancy.

The food is good at reasonable prices.  It also offers mapo tofu  (literally, the pockmarked old lady's beancurd)  ...

... and xue cai rou si mian (pork noodle soup with pickled mustard greens), plus about 20 other Chinese standards.

Another safe bet is Chinese Shaxian Snacks on 2nd Road diagonally across from Soi 6.

In this sense, the word "snacks"  can be misleading as it refers to what we'd call "street food."  It's mostly noodle soup and jiaozi (dumplings) that are on offer.  The dumplings are made on-site in the traditional manner.

 

Again, not a fancy place but cheap and good.

There are some decent options at Terminal21 shopping mall.  

Jiao Zi Quan (literally "dumpling place") is good for dumplings, noodles and some other simple dishes.

Hong Kong Noodles on the same floor has a more extensive menu, but is also centered on dim sum, dumplings and noodles.

Is there any good in American style Chinese in Pattaya?

I dont even know of any in Bangkok either. I know some good Authentic style Chinese but sometimes I miss that home style food.

I haven't encountered any.  There used to be a few restaurants in Pattaya that did UK-style Chinese food, but I believe Chow Soy is the only one left.

Same here, used to eat duck at Len Lee at least two or three times every trip but after I discovered the MK version that's my favourite too... Still go to Len Kee every now and then for the Pad Satur Kung (shrimp in stinky beans) which surely is not for everyone but I love that dish and haven't seen it on the menu anywhere else..

A Totally underwhelming  experience.

The chicken curry was totally rank the sauce in the curry was really really salty and had a very strange taste

The chips were not even cooked properly most were under cooked still slightly hard.

Hardy touched the meal I will not be back

I went years ok think i got lemon chicken and it was as i said ok. I havent been back so not a place i went out of the way for thatsfor sure.

The one on the third level at the Avenue (next level up from Robin Hood) is busy as shit with the Chinese groups.  See 80 or 100 people at a time climbing the stairs to go there.   Never tried it myself.

See Chow soy mentioned quite a bit and I did eat there a few times couple years ago.  Did think food I tried was reasonable - my Chinese fix tends to include hot and sour soup, beef and black bean sauce, and/or salt/pepper squid.  However, the thing that did put me off a bit is do not think there one time I was in there where was not sharing my meal with a close cockroach or 2.  Do not get me wrong as I am used to Chinese places being not the fanciest even over here in Canada, but just seemed that Chow soya must be bit on the dirty side.  As a comparison had heard stories about Tin cup that sort of scared me couple years ago, but actually went there quite regularly last trip and found it to be quite "clean" by comparison - no cockroaches anyways.

Depending on what other activities people up to on the Poon I suppose cockroaches in Chow Soya maybe not the worst - lol.

Must say, I do like the duck at Lengkee, with the red curry sauce.

What I would like to find in Pattaya is the Peking style crispy duck, that comes with pancakes, sliced cucumber and onion, with hoisin sauce.

That's a tough one.  The Huang Chao restaurant at the Royal Cliff hotel has traditional Peking Duck on its menu, but it is very expensive (1,400 baht a few years ago when top Chinese restaurants in Bangkok were charging 700 baht).

 Other than Huang Chao, I don't know of any Pattaya restaurants that prepare and serve Peking duck in the traditional manner.   Roasting a duck Beijing-style is a complicated process. It requires a special oven as well as a lot of time and attention.  Moreover, it has to be presented and served correctly.  The pics below were taken at a Bangkok restaurant.

The crispy skin is sliced off the carcass at the diner's table ...

The pieces of skin are served in thin "pancake" (actually crepe) wraps with cucumber, spring onion and sauce.  The meat remaining on the carcass is taken away and served as a separate dish, usually as soup but sometimes stir-fried.  

The skin, not the meat, is the star of traditional Peking duck. It's the flavor, texture and mouth-feel of the skin elevates the dish in Chinese minds.  That's also what causes problems for some Western diners. They feel ripped off if the slices don't include plenty of meat.  I have witnessed major arguments in Chinese restaurants in Asia on just that point.

Chinese restaurants in Europe or North America often list "Peking Duck" on the menu, but it's actually pieces of roast duck served with crepes.  It's not Peking Duck at all, but the type of dish Western diners prefer. The difficulty is that Westerners unfamiliar with Chinese food are expecting a lot of duck meat when they order Peking Duck in restaurants in Asia and feel cheated when they don't get it.
