Khao Soy

Recommended Posts

Khao Soy is my all-time favourite Thai dish. It's a regional specialty from Chiang Mai, and I've never seen it on a menu in Pattaya.

Maybe one of you restaurant gurus can point me in the right direction?

It is without a doubt the best dish served in Thailand.  And it baffles me why someone doesn't open a restaurant like Just Khao Soi in Chiang May somewhere in Pattaya.  I believe in the basement of the big mall it would be a hit.

I love Khao Soi too.  I ate it in Kasalong Restaurant in Tree Town.

Gotta say that the Khao soi wasn’t so delicious as in Chiang Mai but do the fix. I’ll repeat next trip.

Here's a pic from Chiang Rai, 50 baht. I get mine at The Terrace Restaurant in Bangkok.  Harder to find in Pattaya, a Lanna dish.  It was available in the food court in the basement of Central Festival for 60 baht and was the worst Khao Soi I've ever had.

It is there, but you have to hunt a bit for it.

Yes, Kasalong in Tree Town serves it, but I consider it more a lunchtime dish, and Kasalong only opens at night, plus I not really impressed with their Northern Thai Food.

There is the longstanding Northern Thai Food place on Third Road, who serve Khao Soi among other Northern dishes, but they have normally sold out by 2pm.

There must be a stall in the terminal 21 food court that does it - there are like a million stalls and they can’t all be selling pork intestine soup!!!

Taa_Saparot,

Thanks for the google location I'll try that out this week.

S&P Coffee shops also offer it but nowhere near the quality or price of Chiang Mai.

The Northern Thai place on 3rd road that Taa_Saparot mentioned and posted the location I tried today.

It's closed by 2pm so i kept missing it but finally got out early today. Thought it was really good, seems only chicken is offered. Large portion, good flavor and all the normal condiments on the table. My Thai is very limited but had no problem ordering. At 50 baht it's a great deal and I'm happy to get my Chiang Mai fix for Khao Soi here from now on.

Thanks again Taa_Saparot

i like the one served at central festival foodpark and eat there regularly. it's not as good as in chiang mai, but i clearly preferred it to the one served at tree town.

Really? I'm a huge fan of khao soi and thought the one at kasalong (treetown) was quite good. I tries one in the central food court a few years ago and it was just ok. Maybe a different place there now?

On central festival ground floor food park there is a stand (near the sushi I guess). You can choose chicken beef or pork.
If I remember correctly for 2 pieces of chicken it will be 100 bahts.
No peanuts though but some Limon juice !

Love the location, but I am a bit sniffy at their bland touristy Thai Food, so .... this is the Khao Soi at Cabbage & Condoms

You are a fucking star @Taa_Saparot !! Been looking for a decent Khao Soy here in Pattaya for ages and only ate the one from the stall in Central.

Just got back from Chiang Mai last week where I was eating it most days, so to finally find a place here is awesome.

I went at 11:30 today, and the place was busy, so no doubt they sell out quick. Here is my takeaway which cost me 50 baht...delicious!

I was interested that it had potato in it, which makes it like a Massaman (if you added peanuts) :)It still had 2 chicken legs as well, so was super filling.

Thanks, always happy to help.

And thanks for posting such a positive reply, and letting us know how you got on.

I would guess that shop has been there 20 years, but totally flys under the radar.

I was just thinking about this delicious dish a couple days ago.

I used to eat it often in BKK long time ago.

I downloaded the pictures and will show them to my Isaan TGF with the hope that she can do same.

The Khao Soi served in the Central Festival Mall Food Court sucks IMHO.

There used to be one off Sukhumvit near Boonthavorn, not sure if she's still there but I'm guessing she is. Best one I've had in Patters, better than some in Chiang Mai I've had.
