Most of the places that have  mandatory  insurance just have it as another way to make money...in order to claim you or your family  will have to do lots of hoop jumping probably....but at just 20 baht there is no real loss...

I read somewhere, Bangkok Post IIRC that it's 200B. What insurance could you get for 65 cents US really, even though 200B/$6.50 is still pretty cheap. Watch it add time to arrival as they count out the coins or insist on Baht which 98% of tourists won't have.

That's not how death works.  When you die it's for at least two months.
