Amber hotel review

Amber hotel is a brand new hotel and it shows. Everything has that crisp feeling to it. From the lobby to the pool to the rooms. More on this below. It's advertised as a 4-star hotel, and I feel like it meets that standard quite handily and for a very good price to boot. That being said, there doesn't seem to be a big difference in price regardless of the season for this hotel.

Price: 1500 baht/night (stayed during peak season, Christmas & New Year)

Guest friendly: Yes (ID left at the reception and room is called when the lady leaves by herself to check if everything is ok)

Location:
Soi 13, right off Soi Bukhao. Next to the Tree Town area. Close to Tree Town, LK Metro, Soi Diana & Soi Made in Thailand. The hotel is located about a one minute walk into the soi and is directly opposite P.P. massage. This location is nice and quiet at all hours of the day (or night). A perfect location for me, as I enjoy the Soi Buhkao area a lot, but don't want to have to deal with loud music at night if I decide to go to my room before 3 or 4 o'clock.

The room:

The room is great. Decent size, but lacks storage space. There is no closed closet, but instead it only has a rail to hang your clothes on. But to be fair, I only travel with carry-on luggage and didn't really mind. Though, there is a decently sized safe in the room.

The bed was simply amazing. In some pictures people shared it seemed like it was two singles pushed together with a large single mattress on top, but after checking I found this was false. It's an actual single large bed. The mattress was thick and soft and nothing like the concrete mattresses I've experienced in other hotels.

In front of the bed is a large-ish smart TV. This is a nice perk, as you can access YouTube through it and I used it to put on a few nice music playlists. The channel package is great and has live Premier League football matches. Granted, I didn't watch much TV during my stay, but it's nice to have.

The shower has both a high pressure shower head. With amazing water pressure I might add, to which some of the girls can attest... hehe. It also has a large rain shower head. Water also actually gets hot. As in burn your skin off-hot. Something I rarely experience in the hotels I've been at during my previous holidays. Usually it differs per day wether you get cold, lukewarm, or decently warm water. Not here. Both the temperature and pressure were excellent on all days. Loved it.

The balcony was... small. It had two chars and a small table, but with two people it gets cramped. It's good enough if you're a smoker (ashtray is fixed to the railing), but if you want to relax it's on the small side. Doubly so if you want to sit outside with your lady. My room was on the side of the pool, so at least it was kinda fun to watch the people go about their business downstairs during the morning/daytime. Also, on the pool side, the balcony pretty much has permanent shade. Which is nice.

Some other smaller things;

• Decent amount of across the room power outlets (including the sink for electric shavers etc)
• Direct usb outlets in the wall
• Two large and two small towels provided
• The aircon was very quiet and did a great job keeping the room cooled
• The fridge is empty (except the complementary water), so no mini-bar
• Room service is available, menu is in the room

The facilities:

The reception area is nice and large. Almost always staffed by at least two people. There are some free refreshments in the waiting area. There's also 24/7 security either at the reception area or just outside.

There's a very nice two-tiered pool. The upper part is the 'deep' pool. Not deep enough to dive and not overly large, but enough for a refreshing swim. This part of the pool is in the sun a for about half the day. The lower part is basically the 'kiddy' pool and is permanently shaded. It was also rarely very busy when I was there.

A nice and clean sauna, which I love. If I go to the sauna in the morning and sweat my arse off, I tend to sweat a lot less during the day.

A (small) gym with some basic equipment. Nothing fancy and not suited for a proper work-out in my opinion. But for some light excercise it's fine I suppose.

There is also a massage service. The service can be used on the ground floor or in your room. They give great and proper massages. Never tried anything more with them, simply because I don't shit where I eat. And to be honest, it's nice to know you are getting a normal massage without the whole 'accidental touching' routine.

The restaurant seems decent enough. Only had dinner in the hotel once and never got breakfast, as it only lasts till 10am (too early for me). So I can't say too much about this part. I usually eat out as much as possible, trying different places. It's possible to order some things at the pool, which is nice.

There's also a small convenience store on the ground floor. Though 'store' might be too big a word for it. It has some snacks, crisps, drinks and icecreams. Nice if you forgot to buy something on your way back to the hotel and you got the munchies. The prices are, ofcourse, slightly higher than at the 7/11 or familymart.

A group of motobike taxi drivers are at the entrance of the hotel.

The service/staff:

While I've read some reviews that said the staff was unfriendly, I never noticed anything like that. At all. They've been nothing but friendly and helpful to me during my stay. The only time I found the a bit less helpful was when they were checking in/out a literal busload of Chinese guests. But I can't really blame them for that, to be honest. Imagine having to scan 50+ passports, check them into dozens of rooms and handle requests from that same busload of people. Anyone would get a bit curt.

Room cleaning... no complaints at all. It doesn't matter if you leave your room at 10am or 5pm, your room will still be cleaned. Friendly cleaning ladies, nothing went missing and were open to additional requests such as an extra roll of toilet paper, an extra water, etc.

The Chinese tourist groups:

I had to make this a seperate point in this review, since a lot of people are anxious about this. Yes, there are tourbusses which bring and pick up large groups of Chinese people. But I had zero issues with it. Not once did I have problems with Chinese guests. Hell, I barely noticed them. And the area where the busses park is so large, it doesn't really bother anyone. So no, this was not an issue for me at all.

Rating:

4/5 - As the score says, it deserves each and every one of it's stars. I can't give it a 5/5, because for me to do that, it would literally have to be picture perfect. And I've yet to experience that anywhere. When it comes to price-to-quality ratio, I find this hotel outsanding. I've seen quite a few hotels that charge (way) more than 1500 baht/night and ended up being shitholes comparatively. Would stay again. In fact, I already booked the hotel for my next stay.

Good review my friend but Location is Soi 21 not 13 and half way up from Soi Buakhao road.

It is a little out of the way, down a smaller quiet side street off Soi Buakhao. Easy stroll to the main road and LK Metro though...Really nice and new, I'd stay there again but only if they have a good deals (<1500baht) on.

Great hotel. But if you like sun go to another hotel. Just 3 hours a day  if your up early.

Another thing which i`ve already mentioned is the storage space, or lack of it.

The rooms look shiny and new but unless you travel with just enough stuff to fit in a carrier bag you`re gonna have problems, again the rooms are nice though.

I have stayed stayed at the hotel Amber a few times. I found it to e a good hotel BUT for Pattaya not particularly good value for money. As the breakfast offerings indicate - It seems to be catering more for the Chinese package tours. At least up until the Covid-19 emerged. In my view, is OK for an overnight stopover but given the size of the room and design anything more than one night - count me out!

It’s a new hotel, but as nunchuck says, not much sun and i like a sunny pool, so i will not go back to that hotel again. 

when i was there, it was full of chinese people.

location is okay to buakhao and LK Metro.

Ive been in the Amber hotel end of March for i think 12 Nights. They had an Corona Discount up to 40%. My room was on the 5th Floor with View on the 3rd Road, for 900 Baht/Night @booking.com.

Walk in Price would be 840.

The hotel is nice, but for a 1 year old hotel its kinda used, lol. The cleaning was low quality, too. They dont see the very full ashtray on the Balcony. The Floor cleaning was just like one time Quick wishing and thats it. Could still see the dirt 555.

Wouldnt go there for the full price + all these chinese, as people say,again.

I had 6 nights there in March and thoiught it was fantastic value for money.

The rooms (deluxe pool view) aren't biggest but I slept fantastically well on a great bed and in silence. The shower was fantastic. Those are the fundamentals for me and add in decent service, good pool area... happy days. Sun on the upper tier pool and lounging area from 10:00 - 17:00 March 7th - 13th.

Hard to grumple at the price. 

The only thing that concerned me initially was being told on check in that room cleaning takes place 14:00 - 18:00. That's a no no for me, I like my room cleaned early and late afternoon is nap time for me. On my first morning, I went to the facilities room, asked if my room could be cleaned now, "ka". Left 100 baht in the room. Did the same each day and it was gladly cleaned to order.

Not when I was there in December 2021. Back to Amber in 2 weeks time. 

I think it was being used by Chinese tour groups in 2019, if they return I will look for somewhere else to stay.

Stayed for 5 days last month, very nice, but more family orientated.

The beds are very comfortable, very soft pillows and good aircon.

As others have said, lack of storage for clothes or anything to be honest, and the toilet door is similar to the shower door as in they don't go all the way to the ceiling which could be embarrassing if you have company. 😄

Exellent hotel for the price , one of the best beds I've slept in around Pattaya, I think the pool side rooms better as you don't have the sun baking your room !!
