Citadines 8

Have booked the Citadines 8 on soi 8. They have a promotion on the go right now so it fits my budget ($60CDN/night) and is in the NEP zone. Has anyone stayed there before? Is it quiet at night? I saw they pictures on Agoda.com and it looks new and promising. Will report after my stay.

Likewise for the Soi 16 Citadines property. It is part of the Ascott Group and their places tend to be pretty good. Certainly, their other accommodation in BKK (Citadines, Somerset and Ascott properties) is good value for money. Even if they have a promotion, it's worth checking the rates offered on www.ratestogo.com as they tend to be quite competitive.

Just got back from my 3 week stay in Thailand of which I stayed the first 5 days at the Citadines 8. My expectations were met. In fact, I would say in some cases they were exceeded. The pictures from Agoda and tripadvisor are accurate. It is a new hotel as of Feb 2009. Clean, modern and well maintained. The hotel is located on Sukhumvit soi 8. It is quite a walk to Sukhumvit so in the Bangkok heat it can be quite arduous, but I credit the hotel for providing 24-hour free tuk tuk service from hotel to the main road. You just need to bring your phone or have your companion call ahead to request a ride (hotel is guest friendly). Being so far back from Sukhumvit makes for a quiet location and blissful sleep when that is required.

The rooms are small, but efficiently designed and give the impression of being bigger than they are. Great showers with constant and sufficient, but not overly abundant water pressure. I thought daily maid service was a la carte, but apparently I got it included. They don't get to your room until late afternoon. This is good and bad. Perhaps by design? To allow you to recover from last evenings mongering activities? The bed was firm and lovely. Plenty of modern Tolomeo lighting (translation expensive lights for you design aficiandos). LCD TV with a 2 movie channels and lots of local stuff. Tiled and hardwood floors which are perfect for tropical locales. Programmable safe which I fell is essential. My first night I bar-fined a Rainbow 1 girl and she stole 100Bt from my jeans when I was in the shower. Thankfully I had care of mind to put all cash in the safe before her arrival. In room convection-microwave, kettle, plates, dishes and cutlery, fridge, iron and ironing board, umbrella. Very well thought out.

Overall I was more than satisfied. At the time there was a price promotion which made the deal even better (1,500Bt/ night) and included breakfast. I would and did stay there a second time. Location was ideally located close to NEP and Nana skytrain so the action was close by and the most of Bkk was accessible by the BTS.

NOTE: for more details see my review on Agoda
