Tourist visa length

How long is a current tourist visa for the uk ?

Some say 3 months some say they got 6 months so was wondering if anyone could help clear it up.

If you want to go for a 6 month visa does it make it harder to get due to the longer length ? And do you need to do something diffrent when applying ?

You get 30 days on entry if you don't apply for a visa at the Thai embassy before you leave.

If you apply at the embassy you can get a 60 day Visa which can be single or double (or might even triple entry.) which means you get 60 days that can be extended for a fee for 30 days but then you need to leave the country. You can enter again on the same Visa if you have a double entry and get another 60+30 days.

I looked at the Thai Embassy in the UK's website http://www.thaiembassyuk.org.uk but couldn't find a link, here is a link to the Visa page of the Thai Embassy in Denmark

http://www.thaiembassy.dk/webpage_visa.htm I think the turn around time is the same day or next day so I would suggest you contact the Thai Embassy as soon as possible if you need a Visa.

Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

Entry clearance is up to 6 months, all visas are of 6 month duration however my advise is to apply for a shorter term at first.

The main points on which an ECO must be satisfied:

that the applicant is giving a true account of what (s)he intends to do during his/her stay in the UK and the length of time (s)he will stay in the UK; and

that, during his/her stay, (s)he does not intend undertaking any activity which is not allowed by the RULES relating to visitors; and

that there are sufficient funds available to finance the stay (and that of any dependants) and the onward or return journey.

Reason to return is the failure of most applications ensure you do your homework.

If you require any professional help feel free to contact my company.

Regards Paul

"however my advise is to apply for a shorter term at first "

Do you mean i should apply and then extend the stay or just suck it up and make the first visa shorter ?

I will PM you later tonight about help from your company. I have some friends who have brought there thai GFs/wifes back and most got 6 months so thats what caused me to question the lenght because i assumed i could only get 3 months.

Thanks alot

Just do what Paul advises you. if you apply for say 3 months They will give you the minimun 6months, just looks good and they will not start to look at the lenth of time she stays in the Uk,You will have to have all the Paperwork spot on , The problem you will have is your Thai lady , Like most other Guys that try to get a Visa. Thais Dont Seem to keep there docments because they move around alot and keep most things in plastic carrier bags, and lose them. Good luck mate.

Should be okay i hope , she has all the documents ready. ( Her mum has lived in norway since she was a small girl so my thai gf has spent around 10 years back and forth in norway )

Her having more land and money than me must be a good thing as well =)

Reason to return is your biggest issue, they all get 6 months stamped in their passport.

What are your long term aims with her ?

To come to the United Kingdom as a general visitor you must be able to show that you:

only want to visit the United Kingdom for up to six months;

plan to leave the United Kingdom at the end of your visit;

have enough money to support and accommodate yourself without working, help from public funds or you will be supported and accommodated by relatives or friends;

do not intend to charge members of the public for services provided or goods received;

do not intend to study; and

can meet the cost of the return or onward journey.

do not intend to carry out business, sport or entertainer visitor activities;

do not intend to marry or form a civil partnership or give notice of marriage or civil partnership;

do not intend to receive private medical treatment during your visit , and

are not in transit to a country outside the Common Travel Area.

Once again thanks alot for the replys,

My aims are to go this time for around 3 weeks and try to get a tourist visa , spend some time in the UK and then return to Thailand in the summer for another 5-6 week holiday.

Then make a second visa ( not sure if it's better to go down the fiance visa route at that point ?) If everything goes well....

I have used Children/Land/Cars & bikes /Devolvement of relationship as my main reasons for her return.

My dad has been married to my Thai step mum for 13 years and they have had 2 children together. I have a picture of my family and got my Thai step mum to sign some of the paperwork along with my dad. I guess I can use this to my advantage when I say I want to do everything by the book same as my father and not jeopardize further visas? Or could it go against me? My Thai step mum did all her visas perfect with no problems of overstays or anything.

But when was that things have changed visa wise.

She can only stay in the UK any 6 months out of 12, then you have the sole responsibility issue regarding the children.

Are the children yours ?

Who holds sole custody ?

Thats if you wish them to settle in the UK.

They are not mine , She holds sole custody. I dont plan on them settleing in the uk for 2 years at least yet.

As for the Visa. I would like to do 6 months out of 12 and then go down the fiancee route i guess. But i would rather do 6 months at once rather than two lots of 3 months if its possible.

Yes apply for 6 months going back to the children sole custody does not mean she may bring the children across. The sole responsibility route must be proven first so lets not get confused with sole custody but that is way down the line, did you realise if you are married you may apply for a 1 year 2 year visa etc ?

Its a family visit visa again however it saves you re applying for a visa each time.

Same again any 6 from 12.

Sole responsibility is you must demonstrate to the Eco your wife is making decisions in the children's life's supporting them choosing which schools they attend generally providing support for them. If she demonstrates this the Eco if satisfied will issue the children entry clearance to match the mothers.

Good luck
