Anyone flown with these lately?

Ive used Qatar for my previous trips but Turkish are looking the best option for my preferred dates in June.

Are they punctual?

Whats the baggage allowance?

Food passable?

Do all the flights tend to be full?

Cheers.

Turkish is on my no fly list, not a good safety record and I do not like the turkish government. Never have and never will fly with them.

Flew to Bangkok 3 times in the last 5 years with Turkish airlines, never had a problem. Food Drink and in-flight films made to flight go quicker. 30 Kg was the baggage allowance, but check when booking as a lot of airlines have cut this to 23 Kg on their cheapest airfares. Flights were on time and full. Istanbul Airport was easy to transit and had good duty free. The flight times were also very good been able to select flights arriving in Bangkok around 12 midday and depart after 12 midnight.

Thanks for the replies.

One more question....is seat selection free with the cheapest fares?

Few last year with them, absolutely no problems, short stop in Turkey. The cabin service and food is better than KLM, as much as you want drink wise. No charge for seat selection, website is a bit iffy

Return from Gatwick was £370

I went return from Europe with Turkish on my last trip.  Absolutely fine standard modern airline experience (with a slight Turkish flavour which was no problem at all).  Experience in plane (economy) standard, on time, food good (I thought slightly better than Lufthansa's food), Istanbul airport just a standard modern airport.  My seat had USB power to it which I value as I like to watch my own entertainment on a tablet.  I paid extra to choose an economy seat with lots of legroom.  I will continue to usually fly Lufthansa, but that's because I like to stopover in Frankfurt for the FKKs, nothing wrong with Turkish. If you regularly fly long distances you want to stick to one airline to accumulate points, money off etc.

I believe that the current anticipated-date for the switch to the brand-new airport is this May, there might therefore be a little disruption in-transit, during/just-after the change of their main hub ?

I haven't flown through Istanbul, but, if the flight is after April, you will fly through the new "mega-airport" -
https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/air-transport/2019-03-14/istanbuls-new-mega-airport-be-fully-operational-april

Given the move in early April, I wouldn't fly them then -- it may be a clusterfuck until things get settled (maybe after late April or early May)

http://www.airlinequality.com/ is a good source of info re airlines worldwide.

If you fly via Istanbul, suggest you consider a stopover in Istanbul. Weather should be good in June and there is lots to see and do.

Just do not book a hotel near a mosque; the over-amplified call to morning prayer wrecks one's beauty sleep.

Not far behind Qatar. I liked both. Good service onboard, tasty meals and same 30kg baggage allowance.

Thanks for all the replies.

Quick update. I considered the feedback on here to be generally good so I've booked the flights. I booked via an agent & have received my PNR, & e-ticket number & I'm able to see my booking on the Turkish airlines website. As someone mentioned though, it's not a terribly user friendly site & I can't work out how to select my seat (which is free btw). Any help with this from anyone who's been through it would be appreciated?

The baggage allowance is still a generous 30k.

Further to the talk of moving to the new airport, operations at Ataturk will apparently cease at 0200 on April 6 & from 1400 on the same day all business will operate from the new airport. (Not sure if this is just Turkish airlines or all flights?).

I booked my flights through the Turkish Airlines website itself, and the option to select seats (for cash for the better seats) came up as part of the booking process, before paying I think.  In your situation I'd telephone Turkish and try to sort it out on the phone, having an idea of the seat you want before you call.

I had to e mail the airline to book seats when I booked via a booking agent.

Ok, I've sorted this out now. I downloaded the app & was able to select my seats easily enough via that. All good again. Thanks all.

I flew business with them last year from Dublin to Bangkok, they've a fairly new fleet and are opening a new airport in Istanbul very soon. Food was very good, they have an in flight chef who handles all the food orders as well as the cooking. Flights were pretty full going out and about 50-60% full going back. Lounge in Istanbul is outstanding, check out youtube videos of it. You get a choice in BKK and I opted for Eva air which was also very good. Price was very competitive but it has gone up about 3-400 Euro since last Summer. I'd have no problem going with them again only they were using the Boeing Max 8 between Dublin and Istanbul. They also use an A380 on the Bangkok leg that doesn't have single seats in Business so you may be sharing a 2 seat setup, still plenty of room it's just you don't have easy aisle access like with the herring bone setup used by Etihad and Emirates.

They used to offer a hotel stopover in the city as a free perk on one leg of a return booking. Check it as Istanbul is well worth a tour.

Have flown 3 times in the past 2 years, Business class with Turkish.

They now have their own lounge in BKK and its good. The lounge in IST is very good at the new airport=airport is massive. Price was good for BC, mainly 63K Baht return to cities in mainland Europe. Food on board is good also.

Their entertainment is crap. Also, service not good. When you get on the flight, they offer you a drink, plane takes off and it was 1 hour, 55min before I got another drink. As soon as plane is in air, they make up your bed, set up for meal, serve meal and then you get drinks. Also, I asked if I could have my meal later, what a circus that was-and when I did get the meal, it was poorly presented.

I doubt if I will use them again, so long as I can find a similar priced flight.

Was wondering if anyone has used their miles for an upgrade.

Am thinking of a return flight to Europe towards the end of the year, maybe buy am Economy ticket and use my miles to upgrade.

Anyone know how many miles for upgrade?

Flying from where to where?

Perhaps the airline can provide an authoritative answer, if you enquire.

BKK to LON.

Their website is not clear to me. Looks like 25K miles to upgrade but cannot figure out if it is to IST or LON.

I have tried to email and messenger them but no reply.
