My buddy has tons of points with Marriot. His company has him living at a Marriot. I know they changed the name of the Marriot in Pattaya. The only hotel that was close was some expensive resort in Jon tiem. Does anyone know if there are hotels or affiliate hotels in central Pattaya that he can redeem his Marriot points at. Any help is appreciated as my searches have come up empty

the marriott in pattaya became the avani. the one in jomtien is in fact way past south of jomtien and not convenient for pattaya

Along with Marriotts abandoning central Pattaya...

Marriotts also were looking to build a resort off of Soi 5 on the hill years ago... but have long since taken down their signs and abandoned the town...

The Marriotts courtyard has also changed hands located south of WS..

Yes - I stayed at both the Mariott Resort Pattaya right next to Royal Garden, and the Courtyard Marriott Pattaya before it changed name and owners.  Nice hotels and great for points.  Shame they did not stay open under the Marriott brand.  I wish Marriott came back to Pattaya with come of their budget brands. But it seems they are interested in places where they can charge more, with less competition.

Marriot Renaissance is well past Jomtien. I stayed there. Its a free shuttle ride in at 12, 4 and 8. With returns at various times. The last is 12 midnight at Central I think. Taxi is 5 -700 one way. Time is 25 to 35 minutes.

Yes...just the Renaissance is left and a bit far...though the lady running the place used to run what is now the Avani...if your friend knows how to play the points game they can maybe transfer points to an airline and then to Hilton...may lose some on the transfer/transaction fees but it's better than cash.

I did not know that the Courtyard changed ownership....bummer! I had never stayed there, but nice to think that it was an option if needed.

I loaded up on Marriott points a few years ago, and the Marriott changed to an Avani right before my planned stay. Since then, Marriott and Starwood merged, more than doubling my Marriott points. Now I have a boatload of points, with no hotel in Pattaya where I can use them. SMH....

Bangkok definitely is an option, though. Cashed out a free night certificate at the Renaissance last month, and I may head back there in November....

The good news is even if you can't use your Marriott points in Pattaya, the hotels there are so cheap, you'd be better off saving them for use at another location anyway!

Marriot building a new Courtyard second Soi past Dolphin roundabout going Naklua way . Well on the way in January also another hotel across the Soi being built , nice area round there a bit of a way out but a short walk for the baht bus routes .

Thanks everyone. I also felt the Jontiem hotel was inconvieniant for enjoying central. I will look into seeing if the points are transferable. He can probably cover his airfare and use that money to stay where he likes.

Marriott points are transferable to just about ANY airline - that was one of the big perks of the Starwood merger.

Barring some special promotion, the current "exchange rate" is 3 Marriott Bonvoy for 1 airline mile, BUT you get a 5,000 mile bonus for every 60,000 Bonvoy points you transfer (so 60,000 Bonvoy points nets you 25,000 miles; 120,000 Bonvoy = 50,000 miles; etc.).  It is best to transfer in increments of 60,000 to take advantage of the 5,000-mile bonus.

Awesome info. There are a lot of airlines that seem to participate with their points program. Thanks for the link

That would be great. Do you know this for certain? Any reference on that. I called Marriott and the person I was talking too did not know. But maybe the information was not shared yet.

Actually there is one:

Renaissance Pattaya Resort and Spa in Jomtien

Renaissance is one of Marriott’s brands.

Apologies if this has been mentioned already

the trouble is they claim jomtien and it is not. it is way south. for those unfamiliar with pattaya they won't realize how far away it is till they get there.
