can anyone point to how or if this type of visa is still available ?

at present we both have non O visas with the required  amount secured away in the bank.

that means that 1.6 million baht is permanently now tied up under the new RULES ,which is  40 thousand GBP -give or take .

neither of us have a pension yet - 5 more years  to go ,so we cannot go down the income route either .

it would make life so much easier if we could piggy back her on my visa as a dependent and free up the money either for use or investment .

thanks for any help  youcan give

A friend of mine did this but quite a few years ago.  She was under 50 at the time so could not get a visa in her own right so she did piggyback her husbands retirement visa.   I have asked her if it is still posssible and she thinks it could well be but a trip to ask at immigration is needed.   They were both UK citizens so it would be same for you and she continued after she was over 50 until her husband passed away and then she had to get a visa in her own right.  Hope you can do the same.

Sadly, K is over 50 so it's apparently no longer an option for you. Financially, your best option would be to divorce K and marry P. Then you'd only need 400,000b for the visa extension. If K could remarry some Thai guy, then she'd be able to get an extension with only 400,000b*. Two married foreigners over 50 you two don't get any breaks at all. Over 50 you are each treated as individual retirees since you both meet the age requirements. The 'piggyback' appears to be a concession for a spouse that would not otherwise qualify for his/her own visa.

*I have a vague memory that a foreign female married to a Thai male has a much easier time with visa extensions than a foreign male married to a Thai female. However, it's uncommon enough that I can't recall the details.

I asked Ubonjoe at TV the question, specifically stating they were both 50+. He said she can piggyback. Best to check with the local IO as ultimately all that matters is what they say.

I 100% agree with this, since the two of us have just offered diametrically opposed opinions. The definitive answer will be for @karandy and K to drive down to their nearest Immigration Office and ask the people who can give a definate answer instead of consulting anonymous Internet forums who can only offer opinions at best. :-)

Now if you look at this piece of web information https://iglu.net/dependent-visa-in-thailand-for-a-spouse-or-child/ UbonJoe, whoever the heck he is, was correct until the point that K reached her 50th birthday, at which point I became correct (or longer than that, since I always make the point about K being older than 50 herself.)

I am sure you are right and I believe that foreign female marry Thai male they can apply for citizenship in Thailand.
