I imagine it wouldn't be long, but would anyone be familiar with the processing time after 11 PM in the high season?

No bother entering or leaving in December. I did the automated exit and it was very easy. Scanned the passport, scanned my face, up popped my flight number and the gate opened.

Is the automated exit for arrival/departure something you can opt for on the spot, or do you have to plan ahead? Thanks.

You don’t need to opt in … it’s available to all.  Perhaps can opt out if for some reason you don’t like it or don’t qualify for some reasons.

You need to actively agree to the facial scan gates where you scan your boarding pass. Apparently this is on the first page if you use the automated check-in automates (works for intra-asia travel) I missed it so it was a puzzle to get through.

For the automated passport gates everyone qualify. And it works great as it has significantly reduced the ques.

Now, if they are able to do this on arrival as well that would be perfect! But probably challenging due to the visa RULES and so on.

@kuijpers Time of day means nothing. Flights arrive and depart at all hours. If several flights arrive at the same time, lines will be long. The hours around midnight are usually very busy. Luck of the draw.  That's why I always use fast track

@kuijpers you can also look up current arriving flights for the day of the week/time of the day you intend to arrive … this will give you an idea, based on aircraft arriving and 90% capacity, of the numbers of passengers arriving at the same time you are.

Good to see progress with technology. Some recent ones that lead to convenience that started in a number of countries

  • Passport scan plus Facial scan on arrival - in practice for a number of years for passport with chip
  • Facial scan but no passport scan on exit - just started last year in some countries
  • No need to pull out laptops / tablets during baggage scan - started in 2022

Note: US for decades do not scan passport or anything when you exit.

I only used it for departure. There were 3 officers on duty(fast track) but they were all busy so an assistant asked to see my passport and directed me to the self-service. There were at least 10 stations available and it took me less than 20 seconds. Btw I did nothing different at check-in. No opt-in or face scan so I presume they just check the scan against your passport.

@SlowlyMan - appreciate the feedback. I will put down a reminder for myself to check the number of arriving flights that time/day.

@momo5 Thank you for the advice, I will be reminding myself to do that as my trip gets closer and closer.

Again. Pretty meaningless data. Flights get delayed or run early. The only thing that matters are conditions when the cabin door opens. Book fast track, or take your chances. On my recent arrival, it was a waste of money. I'll still book it every time.

Anyone flown in, during Chinese New Year, before?

Arrived 1:05pm at BKK on a flight from HCMC, Vietnam today, normally a 40min queue at least in the past at this time of day in my experience

Though the queue at the 1st immigration control point was back to the sloping ramp section, to my great surprise, it moved quickly, they seemed to have a lot more immigration officer desks open & staffed, I was actually though in 20mins after joining the queue

An even bigger surprise was that my luggage was already on the belt

That is a surprise, for my past 3 trips the waiting time has moved from immigration to the luggage belt.

Thx!

Yes it is. Keep your boarding pass to show at the entrance.

I was expecting the worst.

But arriving at immigration, I was directed towards a desk with no queue, right hand fingerprints, look at the camera, stamped, and I was through in around a minute 🙂

I then waited over 30 minutes to get my luggage 🙄
