LK Metropole

I stayed at the LK Metropole hotel end of October / Early November.  I was there for 8 nights.

Location

I picked this hotel for location as I love the LK Metro / Soi Buckhao area.  This hotel is on Soi Diana, across the street from the Areca Lodge and right next to the entrance to LK Metro.  More bars than you can count within a short walking distance.  You can't beat the location of this hotel.

Building

The building is definitely showing its age.  Everything looks a bit worn out.  Like the LK Empress, the decor is a bit much.  Never waited long for an elevator.

Restaurant

Breakfast was so / so.  Ordered off a menu of 6 or so items.  Very small buffet for additional items.  I guess it is open later for other meals but I never tried it and didn't see anyone else in there either.

Room

I stayed in a Superior with Balcony room.  The balcony overlooked their small annex hotel.  There are pool views available.

The room was huge, actually a lot larger than the room at the Empress.  Again, the decor was a bit gaudy. The bed very comfortable.  The room itself showed some wear but it wasn't too bad.

The bathroom was large with a lot of shelf space.  Unfortunately, there was a shower / tub combo.  Good water pressure and plenty of hot water.

There was also a microwave, kettle and a decent sized refrigerator.

Pool

There is a smaller pool outside the lobby.  This was the biggest disappointment of the entire stay.  The loungers were pretty much falling apart and there weren't enough of them.  What made it worse were there were a few guests that insisted on coming down at the crack of dawn and "reserving" the better loungers that had access to the few umbrellas at the pool area.  Then they sat vacant for most of the morning.

Also, the pool itself needed a good vacuuming.  There was obvious mold / mildew growing in areas were the pool didn't get much sun.

Gym

Again the gym was pretty small butt it was enough for me.

Service

The staff was very friendly and attentive.  Housekeeping was good.

Summary

I would think twice about staying here again pretty much due to the condition of the pool area.  Even though I love the location I would probably balk even with a price in the $40 range.  If I am going to be in the LK area I will probably go back to the Areca Lodge.

I spend the first 4 or 5 nights there on each of my 4 trips each year.

I also pick the Superior room with Pool View. The large size of the room are a plus for me.

It doesn't matter which floor I stay on, the housekeeping staff is great. Extra towels when needed. Also the front desk has always been very helpful.

You are correct about the place being a little worn out. I find that with all the LK Group, they just don't keep up with minor repairs when needed. I will say that anything I notice that needed to be fixed, they did it right away.

I agree about also staying at the Areca Lodge. After my stay at the LK Metropole I usually rent a car and take side trips and when I return I spend my last 9 or 10 days at the Areca.

It's quite overpriced now.

I have stayed in Areca every year but Areca is starting to be overpriced too now.

Just booked Areca for 10 nights in mid-October for 37 USD before all of the taxes, etc.  I think it ending up coming to about $54 all in with breakfast and cancellation privileges.   Unfortunately I tried to book 8 nights starting November 1 and they are showing up as unavailable on both Agoda and their own website.  I don't think they start to show their November inventory until sometime in the spring.

You need to get to around May/June to find rooms on those websites after the 1 of Nov.

Normally Areca would prefer you to book directly and you will normally get a better price directly from them so if you have a great offer then try and ask them to match or do it cheaper.

You are to late now but what they do is they refuse the credit card payment and then move it over to you. That way you get out of the none cancellation option from the booking site.

Stayed at LK Metropole in November 2018 and really enjoyed the location. Exercise room and sauna were a bonus for me.

Does anyone know if any of the room types (studio, superior, etc) have a walk-in shower? I hate stepping into a tub. Would very much appreciate anyones input!

I generally stay at the LK Residence just down the road.   Their deluxe rooms have the sep. shower so probs find the same at Metropole.....

I am staying in the “Junior Wing”, which is very different from the main hotel. No elevator, no lobby, no free breakfast.

The rooms are smaller, and designed differently.
