Damn, last two nights of my upcoming trip are 16th/17th July....

Since the bars are closed, I would consider a trip somewhere, but I suspect that traffic would be jammed, the Airports crowded, hotels understaffed and filled...

Maybe a trip to Hua Hin would be okay if I can get a hotel room.

(E&OE )

Just about shit myself because I misread this for a minute!  5555

I land at around 10 p.m on July 4, and thought that I was gonna have a TOUGH first few days on a very short (7 night) trip!  WHEW!

I booked this one at the last minute (literally, yesterday!), but I gotta remember to check this thread the next time I think about doing that.

GREAT info here!  Thanks to all who keep it up-to-date!

I’m thinking of stocking up from 7/11 beforehand and inviting a couple of escort girls across.....

Due to start my second and last trip this year in two weeks, so thought that in about September I will be searching airfares for 2020, while trying to avoid bar closure days.   Googled for Makha Bucha, Visakha Bucha, Asanha Bucha, Khao phansa and Wan Ok Phansa and then looked here for the Bar Closures thread.  And there found your post and  the dates exactly as you have advised :Bravo1:  Spot on!!!

Will have to change flights a little next year as the 05 and 06Jul20 would have been at the end of my first trip this year (had they been the same this year) and don't even want to think about that :Ignore1:

Guess I will start first trip next year a few days earlier and all will be cool...  Nice to know this stuff in advance...

Are there public events going on in Pattaya during the closures on July 16th/17th?

Thanks.

temples probably busier than usual. with the exception of banks/public offices/immigration etc everything is pretty normal except for buying alcohol. so most falang bars will shut cos it's easier but others will open for food/soft drinks etc

inc supermodel the new 1 on walking st, rich which used to be mandarin, and sapphire in soi 15. there may well have been others but those were the 3 i spotted

Damn, didn’t get round to stocking up on beer before the holiday. Had too late a night and too many beers two nights ago that we couldn’t do anything yesterday apart from stay in and get some room service. Looks like our last two days in Pattaya this time around are going to be sober and spent doing such exciting things as shopping..........

Note to self, check the holiday calendar next time before booking.... and maybe don’t have such big nights out (screw that we had a great time)

I've just been told, by a local, that this coming Monday, July 29 is a public holiday.

I'm not sure if this is correct or not but that's what she said.

It's the birthday of the person who shall not be named.

Oh yes, sorry.

As for the bar closures, will the bars be open on August 12th? I was told by a Thai in BKK that the bars will be closed that day.

Every time there is a holiday people automatically assume it is a dry day.... There are 5 slated dry days per year. All of which are Buddhist Religious Holidays.. We have already had 4, the last slated day is in October, which is a one day closure...  There were 4 semi dry days during the elections, but they are not yearly events...

I don't think people automatically assume every public holiday is a dry day, hence people asking the questions: is this holiday a dry day? I think people just don't know which public holidays are dry and which are not. It appears even some Thais don't know. But thanks for the info, great to know that Mothers day won't be dry as I have plans that day. Cheers.

I do Jay but then just attempt to get clarification from the bars I visit in the preceding week. It is also amazing actually how little of the mamasans know as well and also have to try and get clarificxation for themselves. But however TiT :GrinNod1:

I think it is a lot clearer what days are dry nowadays, as the dry days are written into law.

In the past, you never really knew until the night before.

I am in Pattaya for the Oct 13th closure, there are Rugby world cup games on that day. Will the likes of Retox and I-Rovers be open for food, non Alcoholic drinks and sport?

Not sure about Retox or I-Rovers, but Metro Bar in LK Metro will be open, which is a big rugby bar.
