Akvavit - Beach Road Jomtien

Recommended Posts

Even when the boss is away, you can tell when a real chef is in charge of the kitchen. Great dishes - toast skaagan topped with lumpfish roe and dill mayo, 195฿, delicious. Pork fillet mignon with al dente veg, wine sauce, sauteed potatoes, ditto. 325฿.

Akvavit Grill & Bar is in a great location on Beach Road close to central Jomtien, with a popular cocktail bar offering excellent value drinks between midday and 6pm - standard cocktails 120฿, draught Heineken 55฿/99฿... and standard spirits well priced.

Prompt, professional, cheery service.

This meal from a couple of weeks ago, so the special will have changex.

Going to disagree a little on this one. I have eaten here a few times and IMO it is ok, but no great shakes. Good location on Jomtien Beach Road and ok food,  but just ok.

I prefer Sandbar and even the much disputed Natan's.

Only been there once and had to use paper tissues to soak up the very unpleasant tasting oil from my omelette and plate. Omelette itself was ok once I’d done that. Keep meaning to go for weekend buffet but haven’t made it yet.

Not read the Natan's thread, but I did find it leaning towards the 'basic tourist' style rather than anything more thought-out. Starter I remember last time had enough greenery to feed a pet rabbit for a month. Ok steak.

Sandbar I admire, again not the sophistication of Akvavit but more than competent. Great set English breakfast.

.......

Natan's may have more diversity of opinion than any other restaurant on the board. The last time we kicked this around for several days, I think I finally figured out why.

The farang food is not that good. On the other hand the seafood on the daily specials board tends to be very good. So if you are a fresh fish person like me, you like the place. If you are a farang food person, like some others, you don't.

Also, for me this is an extremely convenient location and the GF likes it. Plus the guy drives a really cool car. A vet if I remember correctly.

This seems quite good until you realise that the 55B size is 250ml ie less than half a pint, and also less than a standard 320ml small bottle. They are upfront about the sizes on the menu though, so that's fair.

Thanks for that, shall pass on steaks etc and try fish/seafood next time

I don’t often eat lunch in Pattaya but went to Akvavit today.

They do a Lunch Special which changes each Monday:

I had the Beetroot Soup which I thoroughly enjoyed:

followed by the Chicken Fillet which was perfectly cooked and came with a delicious sauce:

We were the only customers today but I can highly recommend this for quality and value.

Sorry, if I am nitpicking here, but the the only Akavit's that I am aware of is in Jomtien on Jomtien Beach Road. Is there more than one?

I was using ‘Pattaya’ in general terms like “when I’m here in Pattaya on holiday I rarely eat lunch” rather than specifying location of restaurant which was already clear from the thread.

ok - no problem. Both TWD and yourself are good restaurant reviewers and I appreciate both of your posts. TBH - I am luke warm on Akavit. Nothing bad to say, but I find their food to be a little bland.

I have been kind of a "meh" guy about Akavit in the past. Basic reason why is I am not very fond of Northern European food. It sits a little too heavy for me. Still I like the Acavit location and atmosphere, so we stopped in the other night.

I have to say they make a really tasty Cordon Bleu. Many places roll it up and it ends up getting overcooked. Akavit flattens the chicken breast, opens it up, stuffs it, and cooks it flat for a shorter duration. The result was tender almost juicy chicken with the inner cheese flavor. They also provide a side sauce that I would describe as a light brown sauce with a hint of vinegar. Ir really set off the chicken.

I will be back, but not for the roast and potatoes.

I eat there quite regularly and to be honest quite enjoy the burgers. I think it’s been mention that the owner is the same guy for the place underneath Fraser’s name is something like ‘News today’.
