HOOTERS. What’s the deal?

not related to the girls but visits the last few weeks they have had no draft beer (apart from once "Hooters Beer" and another visit only Chang). Perhaps they are having financial trouble. 

It's a shame, I like the bar and draft beers there.

I pop in for a beer each time I pass Hooters, twice a day.  I know most of the girls.  They pretty much all have falang boyfriends they live with unfortunately.

When I was there last time Happy hour was from 12-6.

I have been to the Hooters here in the US maybe 2-3 times, and that was only because friends or co-workers wanted to go there. It was okay, palatable predictable food and the young ladies were certainly attractive, but I feel like a stereotype dirty old man when I'm in there. I don't need to gawk at what I can't have or ever have while eating a prefab burger or wings. The ones in Pattaya and BKK I have never been in. No Desire to. Food won't be all that good for the price, and it is just a chain restaurant joint from the US. Predictable and boring. The one they put on Soi 4 in BKK actually kind of mucked the place up. Took away some of the sleazy, crazy ambiance of Soi 4 and Nana Plaza. It kind of stands out like a turd in a punch bowl. lol

most are not from desperately poor backgrounds.

Because of the ‘hooters’ element almost all the girls have boyfriends all of whom live and work in Pattaya not on holiday. For example one girl is currently dating a band member.

Surprisingly you can actually bar fine a hooters girl BUT she has to agree it’s not going to be sex unless you are her dream looker and she happens to be horny and she hadn’t already got a boyfriend.

So basically getting attached to a hooters girl is the same deal as trying to hook up with a waitress in a bar in your home countries. Your going to have to be someone she fancies and she wants to hook up with and like I said a barfine will only guarantee a companion experience not anything else.

You cant barfine at hooters, dont know where you`ve got that idea from, its not beyond the realms of possibility that you could arrange something after she finishes, but you cant barfine them.

Yeah, my regular girl at Ruby Club on Soi 6 ended up working at Hooters in Bangkok.

A mate of mine lives in Bangkok. Good looking, well-heeled American dude in his early 40s. He doesn't monger (used to, but married with kids now), but he often drinks in the Nana area, often at Hooters on Soi 4 BKK. He got friendly with a female who worked at Hooters, took her out to dinner a couple of times. No sex (he didn't try, but he said she clearly wasn't up for it anyway), but he said she was great company. I'd met her a few times when I'd gone to Hooters to meet him, before he went out with her. She was gorgeous, excellent English, from Bangkok, rich hi-so family, just graduated from Thammasat University, doing bar work to get a bit of experience before starting work for Daddy's company. 

She told my mate that none of the birds at Hooters are barfinable. She said the birds who apply to work there specifically do so because they know it's a 'straight' job, nothing to do with sex. Most are students who want to improve their English. She said girls with a known history of prostitution are turned down if they apply to work at Hooters, or their contract discontinued if it's found out that they're on the game, or even if it turns out they once were. She said they sign something when they are employed that specifies they won't date customers while working there (same as English teachers at major language schools in Thailand sign forms saying they won't date students: of course, some do, but it's a fireable offence if they're found out). (She was adamant that she'd be fired if anyone found out she was having dinner with my mate, mate him promise never to mention it when he was in Hooters.)

She also said that they don't mind the uniform, but they all really hate having to line up and sing the stupid songs and do the stupid Hooters dance every hour or whatever it is. She said they hate those tan tights they have to wear because they are too hot. She said that a lot of the girls hate serving 'sleazy' customers that try to chat them up and ask to barfine them, but they like customers who were polite and she also said when customers came in with a hooker on their arm they liked that because the hookers were always 'kind' and made their bloke leave a good tip.

My mate said he once showed her a photo of me on his phone, and she said: 'He's always very polite and friendly, but a bit weird and he drinks too much.'

Edited to add: some are suggesting above that ex-hookers can get work at Hooters in Pattaya. Might be so in BKK too. Maybe they relaxed the 'rules'. (My mate dated that Hooters gal about 4 (?) years ago, no so long after Soi Nana BKK Hooters opened.) Different in Bangkok, but I guess it'd be hard to find attractive young gals in Pattaya who didn't have a history of prostitution, so maybe the rules are different there. I just reported what my mate told me the Hooters bird had told him.

Well Hooters got off to a rocky start in Pattaya......They struggled to figure out the Pattaya market and went through a number of new managers....They took loads of grief from the expats on the boards about their prices and about the lack of air conditioning.....

And when it got really hot in April and May customers would abandon Hooters....Guys who pay top prices expect aircon.....

And then there was low season every year......Tourist might not mind their prices but loads of expats sure did.....

So from April to August there was I would say a fairly good chance they were losing money some or maybe most? of these months.....Those Hooters girls high salaries were eating profits whether they were busy or not.....

Then came the road work and new water drains on beach road.......This really really screwed up the foot traffic to Hooters and made any parking near their very hard.......This went on for months and months and months.....Killing business.......They for sure lost heaps of money then.....

So ok the road work is mostly over by January on that end on the beach......So Hooters goes all out and spends a boat load of money to bring in a bunch of musical acts in January and February to try and build up some good will again with the customers.....They seem to draw pretty good crowds but BOOM out of the blue Covid hits in March and the customers quit coming and all the good will is now lost.....

So yet another disaster for Hooters.....

Now Hooters can reopen but the bread and butter tourist they depend on are now gone.....Hooters would now have to depend on the Cheap Charly expats the same expats that bitched and moaned about their prices from the day they opened....

So in my opinion until the tourist come back Hooters is finished....They are not going to open for expats.....Expats just will not be shelling out 200 baht for a Chang beer... 

Who knows they might already be finished and just be waiting for the moving trucks to arrive...

Excellent points. I imagine the BKK Soi 4 Hooters will be rethinking their business model post-covid too. Wouldn't surprise me if they closed. Morning Night and (I think) some of the other bars on Soi 4 have renovated over the closure, and if they seem more refined now, the former hooters crowd will go there for beer and food at half the price and ladies you can barfine.

We'll see.

I always thought opening a Hooters in the middle of a red light district was dumb. Like opening a Bible Study Centre on Walking Street.

I just walked past Hooters, Coming out there was a Thai man wearing a shirt with hooters  logo. Maybe it will reopen, at some time in the future, Since it opened I have never seen it very busy even in high season.

What’s the clientele for that place?  I’ve certainly never been.  Something tells me the Chinese and Indian tourists wouldn’t go there.  It’s mostly American and European tourists?   Locals?

Well its hard to say who their customers were.......A little of every nationality......Yes more farangs than any one else.......I dont recall seeing to many Thais or Chinese....The only thing that every one who went there had in common was they were not looking for the best value for their money or bar fines....
