there needs to be some common sense rules put in place for short time renters ,make them sign something with rules like if you are loud or rude to other tenants you will be evicted

I've stayed at VT6 quite a few times using different agencies and ALL of them advertise daily, weekly and monthly rates.

I know it may be a Thai law that any stay under 30 days is illegal but it clearly makes no difference as all of these rates are clearly advertised on their websites and in their condo offices.

I'd imagine The Base would be exactly the same when it come to renting for under 30 days.

It's all about enforcement, or not, of existings laws. Currently the powers that be are playing both sides of the fence. They show angry condo and hotel owners that laws are in place to protect them. Then they allow the AirB&Bers to do as they please. Maybe this has something to do with Buddhism and the middle path or maybe it's about fat envelopes. Seems the only people getting hurt by this mess are the guesthouse owners, many of whom are farang.

Every hole a goal.

Condoms kill boners. Save the boners.

Stop the Vagilantes.

Interesting legal point. I would guess the law is being broken by the condo owner...not sure Agoda is acting illegally. Anyone know for sure?

I contacted Agoda the other week asking about the guest-houses on their site, I had noticed some were giving me sold out messages, no matter what date I inputted. I also wanted to confirm that the ones that were not giving me this message were safe to book.

Agoda's response in the email back was they were unaware of the new laws I had mentioned concerning rooms in guest-houses. That's it, not even a "We will look into it".

I have stayed in The Base for about seven weeks, about 18 months ago.

My condo (35 sq m) was perfectly big enough for me.  There are smaller 29 sq m condos, but I'd avoid them.

Yes, there were plenty of Chinese-looking people coming and going in the ground floor lobby, but how much time does anyone actually spend in the lobby of these kind of places?  In practice I didn't have any problem with lots of Chinese people, because most of the time I was in my condo and there weren't any Chinese tourists there.  The only issue with noise I had was music from the bars just outside, and that wasn't a problem because it was more than 20 floors below me.  IMO this 'lots of Chinese guests causing disturbance' is way overstated as a problem.

Whilst I had a good time in The Base, I prefer the Soi 15 condos nowadays and I'm not sure I'd go back to The Base, and that's before any thought about....

In the next couple of years I'd completely avoid The Base because a large new condo block is being constructed adjacent to it, partly blocking the sea view.

I'm about to book the base for 1 month at xmas. The room doesn't have wifi, but the message from rental for the holidays was:

Referring to your requirement, this room not have WIFI in room but we have portable WIFI for rent approx. 300 baht per month (not include package internet up to your requirement).

...good reply, but anyone know about the internet package up to my requirement bit. Is it safe to assume RFTH can supply this. Prices??

cheers

It means you have to provide your own cellular data plan which will cost 500+ baht a month.

Yeh makes sense. I buy a cheap unlimited data sim anyway, so i'll just get a better plan.

Yes I am at the base too. Very high floor. I had choice of going with Wi-Fi but I specifically asked to have it removed.

I am on AIS UNLIMITED mobile broadband (the 6mbps plan I think) - it's super fast and reliable. This way I have internet in the apartment and on the go at arnd 500thb/month. Rather than pay the extra 700thb for home broadband/wifi. I recommend to go with just mobile broadband for all your internet needs.. Including tethering to laptop, tv, tablet

Have been at base 3 times. First time very good not so many people because just opened. Last time to much people around. Pool area have maybe 10-15 sunchairs in a condo with 1100 units. Very nice view from top pool.

Have  ok gym for little training. Not as a full gym but for little bit training it works fine for me.

I lived every time in 1 bedroom condo. I think 31 sqm. Little bit to small for my taste but ok. Maximum 2 people can live in there.

Stayed in a few condos over the last few years. I found the Base to be dreadful. Hoards of ill-mannered Chinese. Door slamming at all hours. Pool too small for the number of units.

VT6 is better, even if the hallways give the impression you are inside some vast Socialist public housing project...

That's enough negative feedback on The Base for me. I've decided to go with VT6 this time.

The Juristic office ,if you book through them, will supply the WIFI stick. They will elp you get the contract to. This sticks work anywhere in Thailand so not bad if you travel

Last 4 trips I've stayed at VT6, I have seen Chinese groups in there but very few.

Just my preference as I think the rooms in the Base look way smaller as the rooms are divided by the walls.

As for the hordes of Chinese etc in the Base, that would just put me off the deep end.

2 years ago while in VT6 I had just arrived and had been in my condo for about 3 minutes when I got a knock at the door,  when I answered it was an angry little Chinese man who actually spoke pretty good English and started finger pointing at me telling me I was a noisy neighbour, I played music to loud, my "visitors" were to loud during sex etc etc.

I tried to explain to him that I had just arrived but he was having none of it, I ended up just telling him to fuck off and closed the door.

The door bell rang about 30 seconds later and I was ready for a right go at him but it was Honey from the Condo office/coffee shop with my key card for the pool. Just then the angry little man appeared again and started to have another go, Honey soon sorted him out with the explanation I had tried to give.

Turns out the condo had been rented by a young guy who was indeed a noisy neighbour and Honey had kicked him out after several warnings about the constant noise.

I met the Chinese man a few days later at the elevator and he was most apologetic with lots of 'so sorry mister' etc and a rather sheepish look on his face............so the Chinese ain't all bad lol.

I talked to the Juristic Office , the girl assigned to my condo rental, about the hoards of Chinese coming and going daily. I told them security checks them in all they had to do is check them out and they know who is staying less then 30 days. The girls says one Chinese bought 36 condos for investment , no way they not let him rent daily. When asking why then put up all this signs the reply was to cover there ass in case police ever comes
