5 days in Ho Chi Minh City - Ideas?

Recommended Posts

Jackie2013

Hi,

I'm looking to do a "Visa Run" for 5 days in HCMC/Saigon. Never done Vietnam before and I kinda enjoy 'Big City Life' so HCMC was the natural choice.

Could you guys give me a hint of what area to stay (central) and a thing or two about where to p4p.

Thanks! :)

While it was not the same as pattaya or even Bangkok I had a great 3 days in HCMC on my last trip. I stayed in the Ho Sen hotel which itself was just decent but I have stayed worse.  It’s in district 1 a few doors away from Apocalypse now the freelancer club. I read hit and miss about the club but scored a knockout the first night I went and she hung around till the next afternoon so for me it was good.  Once the doormen at my hotel saw me with a girl  they had a steady stream of pictures on their phones willing to send my way. Those options were more business like short times but very convenient.  Walking around there were masssge shops offering extras scattered around  and there was a version of walking st or pub street I took a taxi to.  Grab taxi was incredibly cheap it seemed.  There were more backpacker types on the Walking Street  as well but still a good trip.

District 1 is where the bulk of the action is. Buy Vien is the “walking street” tons of bars/massage and eats. Pasteur street has girly bars and your mileage may vary as with Apocalypse. Bait and switch often happens on apps - wechat/line etc. It’s more pricy than Bangkok for mongering but can still be enjoyable (1-1.5 million dong is as cheap as it comes).

Sounds like a plan to me. I will be there for a week in January 2020 - what is the name of the hotel? Cannot find it from that link....

seems a great way to go if the doorman help out! and walking distance to freelancer bar Apocalypse.

Ho Sen

The Ho Sen has two hotels side by side. I have stayed in both. The one on the left in this photo is nicer. It appears to have another name now. https://www.google.com/maps/@10.7771367,106.7056328,3a,75y,47.04h,90.34t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sAF1QipM0JYbpMTTKYkD5ahp5GhZhUjurhs78SiZzwDRP!2e10!3e11!7i11000!8i5500

I have found that hotels that have new names will also keep their old name for those who have stayed there in years past. Example is the An An 2 hotel, which is now called the C Central hotel

But Ho Sen is girl friendly as above, the doormen will bring you ladies for a small tip.

@RandyJohnson  You still planning on going this month?

aleady did. Back on East Coast USA now...such a culture shock from BKK/SIN to shitholistan USA....literally from modern shining lights- high quality, high iQ -  to 3rd world shithole.

Quick Report

I loved Saigon.

Immigration is terrible - had online visa - which is useless.

IMPERATIVE -get REAL visa in advance from consulate...

If you have on-line visa must go to Visa section on left side of hall. go to window - fill form and pay $25, passport photo. they will then issue real visa in passport(1 hour). then sand in main lines (2 hours).

I have a very unique situation. And cannot explain...and cannot give very good monger report as I was staying in 5 star hotel in Saigon with family(separate rooms)....no guests after 9?PM.

I tried Tinder was good, then they (Ladies) transferred to whatsapp ID and/or Badoo.  probably useful to only use Badoo. I was careful with dialogue - and they offer "i am call girl, is that ok?" - many are students - lots of possibilities. Had a delivery once during afternoon - direct to room...amazing! Skinny Asian Lady with big natural boobs. Women are great. Very worth going back to explore further. can't comment on Walking Street/districtone freelancers etc...but will go back next time - for sure.

Would have stayed longer in Saigon alone - but visa issues - so Relocated to Patttaya - for guaranteed good time. Tinder not so good .Badoo not so good. ThaiFriendly - excellent - Ladies transfer to Line ID...

Mostly used Thiafriendly as delivery service direct to room.

Did not drink or go out once. Except a short stint at ibar playing pool from about 8pm-11pm (no alcohol). 11 years ago was full of dancers and freelancers at this time. i loved it...Now nothing. And louder music, more smoking, and more flashing disco lights above pool tables...can't see, hear, or breath...and no lovely ladies. previously I would snipe women from entrance to upstairs. Hate being there lights/noise etc...

Had a fist full of dollars - and planned big night at gogo - but was very happy with nice Ladies - select size/type/ from menu and deliver to room!

Walked along Coconut bar on way back at night  -plenty of lovelies on menu. plenty and very nice attitude.

Mostly hung out in Central Festival - loved it - and so do many of you. In Thailand - us old guys are the Mall Rats - haha

This TOTALLY how I feel about the good old US of A.
To me whenever I return to Asia it feels like I am in a place that is moving forward in time and whenever back in the States it feels like a place that’s stuck in time or moving backwards.
And mongering in the States don’t even get me started.
Sorry to get off the thread topic... As you can see I am looking forward to get back to SE Asia.

Seems the Unions are still strong, but quality is dropping .

I reckon many pointless workers in USA are getting higher hourly rate than their IQ. has to be a tipping point soon.

In Thailand, Singapore etc... very high quality dedication - from teeth, to iPhone repair, to dick sucking... all high quality, dedication, enthusiasm, and fair-trade-prce

$25 here https://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/trang-chu-ttdt

Upload photos, pay your fee, get a document to print in about 5 days.

Walk up to immigration booth, hand passport and printed document and enter Vietnam. No sticker put in your passport that uses up an entire page. The process you did requires them to insert a sticker.

Going to consulate will cost you triple the price of online or more. Plus all your wasted time getting there.

I forget if it was on a Cambodian evisa or on Vietnam, but seem to remember there was bit of an issue on the uploading of the photo on application?  hopefully this sorted out as think I would like to try Vietnam end of feb or early march.

Sounds like you had an pre approved letter and VOA, pay for letter, arrive Vietnam and queue to pay stamping fee. Once done join the normal queue for Immigration. E-visa would have avoided the first queue, straight to Immigration, the same with a visa issued by Vietnam Embassy or Consulate  but Consulate visa is much more expensive.

We had this "eVisa" $17 printed out and required to board plane to Saigon in Melbourne:

"Step 6 — When you arrive at your destination airport in Vietnam, show the Approval Letter and photos at the Immigration office" 555555555555

https://vietnamvisa.govt.vn/

this eVisa from @freedom42 looks like the real deal.

https://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/en_US/web/guest/khai-thi-thuc-dien-tu/cap-thi-thuc-dien-tu

Both .gov one useless. Would  like confirmation the other works

I also saw people holding signs with passenger names within immigration hall - they maybe an express service. Would take it for sure next time.

I just noticed - fell for the ol' not really .gov trick:

https://vietnamvisa.govt.vn/

.govt .vn

and they have a fast track option for extra $25 to avoid lines... would like to know in future if works....

You are not the only one to fall for sites with similar sounding addresses, that is how they make money from the unwary.

At least they do add at the foot of the page a disclaimer:

Disclaimers: vietnamvisa.govt.vn is e-commercial/non-government website. We provide visa approval letter service which is officially approved by Immigration Department.
