Buakao Bistro on Soi Bukhao

Buakao Bistro has been open about six weeks.  It's located on the stretch of Soi Bukhao between Soi Diana and LK Metro and across the street from Oasis A Go Go and Soi Chaiyapoon.

As its sign proclaims, Buakao Bistro offers international and Thai cuisine.  There's everything on the menu from pad thai and Chinese steamed dumplings through hamburgers. pizza and pasta to steaks, onion soup and a French open-faced sandwich. Prices are mid-range, with plenty of main dishes under 200 and 300 baht. The owner/manager is a very friendly French man who enjoys talking with his customers.  He told he had been in the restaurant business in Pattaya for 11 years and was previously associated with The Kitchen on Beach Road.

The veranda is a good spot for people watching.  I prefer to sit in the covered section of the restaurant, but I still had a clear view of the street.  What struck me most is the number of near traffic accidents I saw.  That crazy intersection of Soi Diana, Soi Lenkee and Soi Diana leads to some hair-raising left and right turns.

The restaurant has a selection of bottled Belgian beer. I like lambic fruit beers and was pleased to see St Louis Premium Framboise (raspberry) on the menu. Fruit lambics go very well with spicy foods, so I ordered the penne arabiata at 160 baht. It was indeed spicy, but very good.

One nice touch is the free pate and bread that comes with some of Buakao Bistro main dishes.  The pate is homemade and tasty.

I next tried the parma ham tartine, an open-faced French sandwich. It wasn't cheap at 220 baht, but then neither is parma ham in Thailand. Again, very good but not particularly filling.

I've also had the fish burger and fries at 210 baht ...

and the smoked salmon wrap at 180 baht.

No complaints about either. The fish fillet in the burger had been nicely breaded and season, while the taste of the smoked salmon wasn't overwhelmed by the other ingredients.

Bottom line:  Good food at a good location.

That's an outstanding location for food business, wasn't there a lingerie shop or a gold shop before there.

Also thanks for the review but Good food at a good location is hardly an enthusiastic endorsement.

I saw the word Bistro in their name and thought maybe something more interesting, so looked at their menu awhile back.

I was struck at how predictable the choices were.

Based on the pictures, the food looks just OK and at their prices I reckon there are more interesting options around.

Been past it a few times back in April and the menu looked good to me. I went in one evening and it wasn’t what I expect for being in the heart of Pattaya. The ombions was very chilled and cool which is a wonderful thing considering your right on Soi B.

The owner was there and thanked me for choicing his restaurant and if I had any issues just to ask for him and he would do his best to rectify it. Happy to say the food was excellent I had a lovely piece of fish with lightly breaded in a nice soft bun along with a lovely tartar sauce. As for the Pate that Evil mentions it was a nice little surprise.

i thought it was all well priced and will return in December. I hope it gets through it’s first low season as they have made a good effort in doing something a little different.

As all things in soi Bukhaow pricing has to be right......two pretty young girls on the doorstep each evening trying to entice customers....I hope I may be wrong but I cannot see it being there after the lease runs out :Sorry2:

In my case, I had been totally spoiled by that Bite Me place on 3rd road and when I saw a European bistro in a nearby neighborhood I had hoped it would be something like that in having well priced and creative menu options. It does not.

The terminology of Bistro and soi Buk don,t really go together I,m afraid......great business idea but in the wrong place :Sorry2:

I had the hamburger. It was a good burger, the best I have had so far in Thailand. Although I will add I have not had great experiences with burgers in Thailand, as it's not a meat on many Thais diet so they don't often cook beef well, unless in a specialist place. This one ticked the box, a thick beef patty. 230 baht

200 baht today for a small bottle of  Lambic's.  1/4 liter I think.  Pictured next to my "normal" size Leo for comparison.  I did enjoy the curry.

Following the death of "Bali Cafe" on soi Buk it seems the "Bistro" is changing tactics and offering "specials" at 99 and 199 baht as of yesterday.....I wish the owner well but methinks its a little late in the day with low low season well and truly here and the baht as strong as it is......Nikom Court and the "Tin Cup" are holding their own though :GrinNod1:

Last year (November) when ever I walked past, day or night, the place had either no customers or a max of 3, most times though none.

Pricing was too high for most guys passing and certainly for nearly all staying nearby.

Maybe they've finally got the message.

A good fuck wins hands down in preference to any meal in my book.....:ThumbUp6:

After paying those prices for a girl they probably only have 45 baht left.
