Oh yes, that's correct mmol/l   and yes, my total ought to be that low. That's what the cardiac people advised me, and those with my condition, anyway - they 'like it to be' is how they actually put it. Statins, yes, I take those, and blood thinners, a beta blocker and ramipril to lower my blood pressure. Are you concerned about your heart? Have you got any family history of heart attacks?

(Thanks for the PM)

No not concerned, until i saw yours was half what mine is lol. But now I understand.

My pops had a mild heart attack when he was in his late 60's (now early 80's). It was the day after he had a hangover from a new year party. The heart attack didn't kill him but my mum nearly did! He takes all sorts of pills but is still slim, active and eats carefully and had no probs since.

Speaking of statins. Previously, I was on a “healthy” balanced diet... low fat, moderate carbs. I exercised regularly. My dad had a couple of aneurisms and on all kinds of meds. I thought I was destined to the same fate when the doctor said I had to go on statins in my mid 30s! I was floored. I was not obese but a little bit overweight. I could never lose weight even with the “healthy” diet and excercise. However, since I went on a high fat, low carb, no sugar, no processed foods diet, I dropped all the weight and the doctor says I don’t need to take statins anymore!

These high fat diets. I think in 10 years time, people will say 'what were they thinking?'

Why not change the high fat to low fat in your sentence above? Just play it safe?

Control your weight for your own health.

If you are losing weight for the girls forget it. They look at you and see $$$.

The more weight you carry the more dollars you must carry. Weight and how much money you take are directly  proportional :GoldenSmile1:

It is unknown for sure. Still very inconclusive. However, your main sources of energy are carbs, fat and protein. You can’t limit all forms of energy.

My dad died from the same thing as I had at the same age, but the treatment wasn't like it is now and he had 4 more straight after, whilst in hospital. Also, 3 of my uncles on my mother's side died from heart attacks, so I suppose my number was up! The care, treatment and the drugs are far better now.

Greetings,

Best advice to all the members in Pattaya, don't patronize cheap buffets, just eat ala carte dishes and no icecreams!

Intermittent fasting, it’s my go-to strategy and I will do it for the rest of my life.

All it says is you don’t eat after 8pm an you skip breakfast. That’s its. That’s a 16 hour fast with 8 hours for you to eat. And if you do cheat or eat a lot of junk just change the time to 6pm.

I would likely still be gaining weight if I didn’t know or try intermittent fasting. I owe so much to it, I can still eat what I want, I’m just eating less often.

Cutting weight is simple.  It's called discipline.

I have cut over 35 lbs in under 3 months before.

Extreme caloric deficit combined with high-intensity interval training (HIIT).

Calculate your basal metabolic rate, https://www.calculator.net/bmr-calculator.html then subtract 500 calories.

This is your daily calorie limit.  Combine this calorie restriction with HIIT.  Sprinting, 60/120's, rope jumping, burpees, kettlebells, Crossfit-like workouts.

NO DAIRY, ALCOHOL, SUGAR or SALT.

Drink lots of water, take a multi-vitamin and 1 or 2 quality protein shakes each day.

If you are on a caloric deficit, you will be hungry.  You will also see yourself dropping weight daily...

Since you have no problem on that you might as well do OMAD.  One meal a day.  Save twice as much money, get twice the benefit of what you’re doing now.

All these fads, diets, quick fix remedies! Just exercise, and that includes walking or gardening, anything which raises the heart rate above resting, eat well - this means looking at food labels, not taking any notice of what people tell you about food because it's too often incorrect, and do that to find out how much SATURATED fat is in the food (don't have anything which is over 10%, and even that's too high, and the sugar content - again set a 10% limit. You will slowly, and that's the best way, lose weight and look a lot slimmer.

DO NOT TAKE A BLIND BIT OF NOTICE IF ANYONE TELLS YOU THAT EXERCISING MADLY BURNS OFF ALL THE SUGAR YOU EAT.

i WILL GET COMMENTS ON THIS LAST SENTENCE AND i CAN EXPLAIN WHY it is the case, if anyone wants to know

Problem is trans fats not saturated fats. Not all fats are the same.

Trans-fats are artificially created fats used in the manufacture of foods. They increase shelf life and the flavour-stability of foods. They are also often found in fast food, cakes and biscuits. They been banned in Denmark has banned all but trace amounts of trans-fats in food. The use of trans-fats has also been banned in restaurants in New York City. California has phased out their use completely by 2011.

This is from the NHS. As far as saturated fat is concerned, I go by what my cardiac specialists told me, which is that saturated fats are not good for someone with heart disease, where the arteries become clogged up with plaque, whereas HDL (high density lipoprotein) and LDL (low density) are better, with HDL being good. Someone with this condition, they informed me, ought to have a total cholesterol level of not more than 2.6, where at least 1 of that consists of LDL and HDL.

As I wrote before, I listen to and follow what they say  and not anyone else.

So what are your current exercise routines to stay in shape and stay alert?

I used to be a gym rat so this kind of sucks. In Pattaya I love to walk everywhere but back home I don't like walking if I don't have to. Can't run because of bum knees.

I started doing push-ups and squats with only bodyweight and also situps. I'll do something like five sets of each. I ordered a cheap exercise bike for cardio. I don't really follow any routines on YouTube.

I'm doing the P90X program at the moment. I've just finished the second week and have dropped 8lbs !!

I would definitely recommend it for slimming down. :D

I can also espouse the greatness of intermittent fasting.  I'm only about 3 weeks in here but it is something that will be with me for hopefully my life going forward.  The bonus for me has not been about weight but mental clarity and gut health.  I haven't been this clear headed or able to focus as well for years and that focus can be beneficial for many things...

Just eating bigger meals since the eating window is only about 8 hours and keeping meals relatively balanced and healthy.  Lean meats, high quality carbs, green veggies, and cut way down on dairy products.  Its been an excellent transition and not at all as difficult as I thought it would be

I’m using P90x as well , but in my opinion unless your dietary habits are healthy, I don’t think you’ll slim down a lot from that alone. I generally like it though, but am being careful about modifying when needed.

I have heard a lot of great things about P90X as well.  I know it's been around for a while now but my understanding is that you don't need much equipment or a gym.  Probably had a spike in use during this virus time with the lack of Gyms being open.

I've been meaning to try P90x sometime myself. In the past (and actually at the moment as well), I've used a number of body-weight home workout routines which I've found can lead to good results-but consistency is the most important thing.

I've also lost a couple of stone on a few occasions (before letting it creep up again) and have found there are some small changes that have really helped me with whatever diet plan I was on at the time.

- Keeping a food diary is good for making you more aware of when you are absent-mindedly eating.

- Adding some high intensity intervals into whatever cardio you do can really help suppress appetite.

- I've found green tea extract pills to be another good appetite suppressant. Peppermint tea is good too.

- Brushing teeth after each meal of the day can help stop hunger between meals. Good for breath also.

- Also, drinking a pint of water before each meal has really helped me avoid overeating.

If you’re curious about P90x , as well as many other programs from different trainers , you might consider downloading the app Beachbody on demand. It’s the company that produces P90x etc. They offer a free 14 day trial period, so you could try it out then cancel it if you don’t like it.

Theres also a Facebook group called P90x never dies which has lots of people at various stages doing P90x etc.

I've been intermittent fasting as well for the past few months.

The first time I did IF was actually back in 2012 or so, where I did a 16 hours off, 8 hours eating window.

Now I'm back to doing same, eating at around 11 in the morning and getting in my meals and snacks before 7 pm. I have been averaging around two meals a day during work days and three on weekends.

Not sure if I lost any weight or if I feel that much better but seems to be going well.

Eat once a day and you can have whatever the fuck you want and still lose weight.  I’ve been OMAD for almost 12 months.

I prefer to eat whenever I want and not starve myself. I eat most of what I like but limit my intake of carbs/sugars and processed foods. I even enjoy the occasional cheat day.
