Book Agoda or direct

Featured Replies

Heading to Pattaya soon and interested in VT6. The Honey Coffee house rents their rooms out of their website but so do others including Agoda.

Is there any difference who I rent it through? Would either have additional fees not advertised. Both seem to allow the option of booking now and paying on arrival.

Best thing is to email them direct, [email protected], they will be able to give you a quote then you can check it against Agoda.

I've used Honeys for the past three years and they have been great - No additional fees though they do ask for a deposit on checkin of 3000 baht which is returned when you leave.

What's confusing is that Honey's website mentions that there will be a per day charge for water and electricity. Agoda doesn't make this reference.

I always check the direct price. Many places have a lowest price guarantee, so you can get the same price without having to pay up front.

I believe Honey's adds E&W to monthly rentals only.  If you rent on a daily or weekly rate there is no extra charge for E&W. Best to check at the source though

If you are booking through Agoda make sure you are booking a specific room if that is important to you. Half of VT6 faces walking street, half central festival and the hilton hotel. If you are on the CF/Hilton side on the lower floors < 12? there is no view and likely no sun. Maybe some people like this, others probably prefer the WS view.

I think with Agoda you might get daily cleaning, at least with some condo rentals, you do. Best mail Honey regarding this, replies very promptly. If booking other than Honey or Dancewatchers, I'd book with Agoda just to be safe.

I once wanted to extend a reservation, and it was actually less expensive to book online!  Something about the exchange rate or something, I don't remember.  They actually recommended I do it that wat, so they were not trying to profit off of it.

The cleaning is one of the differences. I booked direct last trip and they asked if I wanted daily cleaning. I thought for a minute and said I had it last few trips. That is when they said the difference is due to Agoda including the cleaning and direct having it as an add on.

They were nice enough to just give it to me since I have stayed there 4 times in the last year.

AS for VT 6 specifically walking in is the best option for low season as there are around 6 places similar to honeys and you can play them off on each other and get a better rate and also pick the best room for the best price.

I would asume the  per day charge for water and electricity is only for monthly rentals only.

Ask a silly question and i'll leave a silly answer

Would have been easier if you googled it yourself.

First Post for me. One and counting.

I booked Areca Lodge a few months back for August via Expedia. Mid range room, 2,000 baht.

Got on this site last week and read the Agoda commission link. Checked price and it was !,600 baht same room.

So cancelled the Expedia and locked in the Agoda- and the good guys get the commish.

Maybe this is worth two posts?? 48 to go.

I only book Agoda if I get "Early Booking Special 30% Off" off otherwise its better to go to website most of the time.

First I do a search on Agoda  and Hotel.com and maybe one other like Bookit.com. I also check with the hotel itself to see which is the best price. You have to be careful with the prices on the 'booking sites' because they add the 10% and 7% tax charges when you check out, where as the hotel price includes the taxes.

I they are the same I will book with Agoda with the pay later and having the cancel date a few days before check in date. When I book on the hotel website like the LK Group, your credit card is charged to complete stay when you make the reservation.

Part of each of my trips I stay at the Areca Lodge, which was mentioned, I book directly with them normally for the next trip while I'm staying on the current stay. I just have to pay one day to make the reservation for the next trip. I also the Ace Club card there which pays for itself after staying there a few days.

I generally book directly with the hotel as it saves them the very high booking site commissions.  And sometimes if you book direct the hotel gives you a better room or extras such as frequent flyer points.  And it's nice to have contact with one of the hotel employees to book it, rather than a faceless website.  You can then often discuss which room is a good one to book.

For my trip to Pattaya I tried to book direct with the Holiday Inn, but I couldn't get them to even match Agoda.  So reluctantly I booked through Agoda.

yes i book directly as others have mentioned before that on third party websites they tend to include an additional charges for tax.  Plus booking direct will work in your favour if you ever make repeat visits.

when deciding to book direct or through third party site, my first priority would be based on the total price for the duration i am there.

`if you are staying for longer it may be an idea to mix up the hotels a week here and another week elsewhere, that way you get to experience different accommodation.
