Installing Solar in Isaan

Featured Replies

I am looking for sources of components for solar, panels, inverters, cables in Isaan, without going to Bangkok.

Depends on where you are in Issan!   Even some of the smaller towns around where I live are selling all you need nowadays.  Several friends live near here and have no mains electric, just rely on solar and all they needed has been sourced locally.

Are they without power because the community is not wired, or do they have isolated homes?

Live isolated from all services, not even a decent road to the property!

Any idea of price per watt for solar panels in Isaan?

I was up in Petchabun a few months back and notice some (not a lot) solar panels around town.

Check this Thai company's web site for solar info and prices;  http://www.amornsolar.com/en/index.php

Also there's a good Thai web site all about home construction, it's worth a visit if you or your Thai lady own your own home and are free to build as you wish.  http://www.coolthaihouse.com/forum/

Unfortunately, Amorn does not seem to be a provider of home power systems, they specialize in small illumination systems and camping class products.

I'm not well versed on solar systems, but I'd at least give them a call and ask, the worst they can say is "we don't have what you're looking for",  Going by the looks of their web site, they have what other Thai solar companies have but this site is at least in English.

Edit update; There's a big thread on Thaivisa from a member that used Amorn to install panels on his home to generate enough electricity to run his home appliances. I don't know if we can post Thaivisa links here,  but if you can't find it, PM me.

Cheers

I can’t read Thai, but I have a helper who can.

i am resigned to buying panels in Bangkok and trucking them to Isaan.

Have a nephew here in Issan that installs solar panels for many people, he buys from Lazarda and has them delivered to our house.  He is no fool and good at his job hence many people ask him to work for them so they must be decent product.  Sometimes there are several panels come along with batteries and all the fitting that he needs to do the job, not sure but think free delivery.  You can definitely buy the panels etc in many shops in Issan but no idea how competative the price.

Ask some of the builders on this forum about solar as i am sure they have installed them on some of the houses they have built?

Alanthebuilder springs to mind?
