Gift for new baby

Recommended Posts

I have a good friend that is expecting a baby in a few months.

I won't be in Thailand then, so the baby will be born and I won't be in Thailand until December.

I've read that a proper gift for a newborn baby in Thailand is gold for the baby and money for the mom.

And I've also read that it is bad luck to give such gifts prior to the babies' arrival, so gifts should only be given after.

What are your experiences with this? Is it truly bad luck to give before the birth? And does gold and money sound right? How much if so of each?

Exactly what I was told when a lady I worked with was getting close to delivery.  I was a bit sceptical and checked with others outside the office: all agreed it's not the done thing.
