How to lower the Sex Hormone Binding Globulin SHBG level in your blood?

SHBG binds to your free Testosterone in your blood and renders it inactive and useless, only unbound Free Testosterone is benificial to your body.

 

I have had some bloodtests done in Pattaya last few years to check my Total Testosterone, Estradiol, PSA and SHBG.

My latest check up (June-17) showed that my SHBG level has increased to 79.25 nmol/L from 62.20 nmol/L a year ago, and 50.08 nmol/L two years ago! 

Normal levels for male over 50 yrs old : 20.6-76.7 nmol/L

Being 60 yrs old, that means my SHBG level is way over normal!

Good news is that in the same time my Total Testosterone has increased from 659 ng/dL last year to 779 ng/dL this year, and my Estradiol has decreased  from 32.3 pg/ml to 28.7 pg/ml today! 

Probably because I've lost 17 kilos in weight this year from January!?

PSA has been steady on 1.3 ng/mL for many years as well, below 4.0 ng/mL is a good count so no problems with that.

My Free Testosterone not bound to SHBG is only: 9.41 ng/dL  =  1.21 % normal levels should be inbetween 2-3 %

So my problem is how to get the SHBG level down so that I can free more Testosterone!?

 

Last year I tried with lots of different supplements and minerals that I read about on the Internet: Omega3, Boron, Pycnogenol, Zink, Magnecium and Calcium, but they don't seems to have had any effect at all!?

Anyone on here who knows a better and more reliable way to lower Sex Hormone Binding Globulin?

Your SHBG may be elevated in response to your higher testosterone level through you body's  feedback loop trying to maintain homeostasis. Just a guess.

Back in 2011 my Total Testosterone was 1014 ng/dL and in 2013  it was 1034 ng/dL.

That used to be my "normal" level !

I didn't check my SHBG back then though, but my guess is it was much lower than today.

Last year I had a thorough bloodcheck that showed my LH Luteinizing hormone is very high as well at 9.47  mIU !

Normal range: 1,7-8.6 mIU,

LH stimulates the testes to produce more Testosterone, so if T goes down the LH goes up to try and counteract

That means my body works overtime trying to get Testosterone back up to the old T-level, but somehow the SHBG seems to try to slow it down!?

Just read it, but it somewhat contradicts with my own findings as I used to be obese and eat a lot until 6 months ago,

when I changed to eating one big meal a day, with plenty of meat and vegetables, and just a few nuts, dark 85% chocolate, fruit or fruit juice in between as snacks!

Together with a lot of walking and "sexual activity",  I lost 17 kg between 1January and 13 June, down from 100 kg to 83 kg! 

My Total T has gone up and Estradiol down, and as a result my SHBG should have gone down as well, but it has not?

I want to go the natural way without chemicals!

I have read about this Melatonin 2 and have thought about it in the past, but there are not enough research about the long term side effects on your body!

It's not the amount of Total Testosterone that is important, as that varies a lot from person to person.

Bound to SHBG the Testosterone is useless to your body, so it doesn't matter if your TT is high or low.

It is the amount of free bioavailable Testosterone not bound to SHBG that is important.

Normally this lays between 2-3 % of the TT, but mine is only 1,21% less than half normal rate!

As long as you know your SHBG and Total Testosterone you can calculate how much Free or Bioavailable Testosterone you have by using this calculator:

So anyone who wants to go check their Testosterone level at a clinic it's important to check your SHBG level as well!

you have some conflicting numbers there, your TT is up, your estro is low...I am not sure in pattaya your e2 was checked more likely the standardized estrogen test which is applicable to women, just not as accurate as testing e2,(estrodiol) alone. i mention  confilicting because usually when test increases so does estrogen,as test will convert to e2 via aromatization, as well as shbg, as it binds to test...  more test, more shbg

have you been getting test shots to increase your levels or for sex drive? its also very unusual for a man of 60 to have rising test levels, (not that its a bad thing),  your levels seem above average, most men after age 40 there levels drop, many times due to conversion to estrogen as they gain weight, belly fat is the main culprit.

on a side note, not sure which lab you use, I had blood work done in Jan at the clicic off of 3rd road near chan tong ,

I have had bloodtests at several labs and clinics in Pattaya:

Pattaya Lifecare, Pattaya Clinic Lab, Pattaya Inter Med and Maximum Performance Wellness Center.

Actual tests were done at Bangkok Pattaya Hospital and Chonburi Hospital.

According to the labtest results they checked E2 Estradiol.

I've never done any test-shots, MPWC wanted me to start weekly shots to get my Total T up to the 1000 ng/dL

were I used to roam a few years ago and they said was my normal level, but I refused and wanted to try and get the SHBG down naturally first.

I never tried the DHEA.

I never drink alcohol so I don't expect a damaged liver.

Now back home in Sweden I want to do a new total bloodtest, but haven't found any clinic that includes the SHBG test!

many places may not do sbhg tests if your test is in range, their theory is you do not meet the criteria because your test is fine.

its the most frustrating part of hormones when it comes to doctors, and subsisdized health care programs, they simply feel you need it, and dont want to pay for the test. it seems they dont understand that all hormones need to be in balance, they put more significance on certain hormones, and less on others, you think they'd know that they all work together.

Proviron may work, although it will lower estrogen lower. 28 estrogen is fine, I know many on trt that try to keep it 15 to 20 with the aid of a aromatase inhibitor.

Of the two Proviron seems a safer choice with less dangerous side effects,

only worries will be hairloss, achne and increased bad Cholesterol LDL.

A question about Proviron:

For how long can you take it?

Can you take it just for a few months or shorter to boost libido during holidays or are you on it for life once started?

Will it shut down your own testosterone production, and if so will it bounce back again once your off Proviron?

Is it safe to try on your own, lets say 25 mg a day just to see if it has any effects on libido?

its a weak steroid with a high safety rating it will enhance the amount of circulating free testosterone as it binds to SHBG which is responsible for reducing the amount of free testosterone it will reduce estrogen to a small degree as well its used mostly in cutting cycles to reduce estrogen and make other steroids used to work much better. Cant see it shutting you down no you wont need to be on it for life cant see any probs with using it for a holiday I use 25mg am and 25mg pm on holiday. But obviously this is only my opinion based on my own experience

Is is easily obtainable in pharmacies in Pattaya, and how much?

Might give it a try next time in Thailand!
