This weekend sees round 2 held at Termas de Rio Hondo in Argentina.

Circuit is 4.8 km long with 14 corners and a straight of just under 1.1 km.

Last year saw Marquez, Rossi and Pedrosa as the top 3 placings.

First practice (FP 1) today saw Vinales coming out on top on his Yamaha M1 and Marquez putting it on the ground...... so will he be able to keep up his form and repeat his 1st round win.

And just to add a little bike porn.....the pic is not an M1 Yamaha but I believe its the closest you can get for the road.

A wet qualifying day saw some top riders having to go through Q1 with the top two here being Pedrosa and Rossi.

Q2 saw Marquez, Abrahams and Crutchlow as the top three with Marquesz seemingly streets ahead.

Ride of the weekend though must surely go to Abrahams who has been good throughout.

Qatar winner Vinales will start from the third row along with Rossi.

Weather forecast for the race is good so things could change a lot.

Nice dry race with Vinales coming out on top followed by Rossi and Crutchlow.

From the start Marquesz was quick out of the blocks and quickly built a comfortable lead only to put it on the floor at turn 1 on lap 4. From here on Vinales went unchallenged while Rossi stayed tucked in behind Crutchlow until Rossi made his move with 7 laps to go. Crutchlow had no answer and that was that.

The biggest competition seemed to be between works Honda and works Ducati to see who could bin both bikes first.

So, Vinales leads the table with a perfect 50 points after two wins.

Interesting snippet.....Vinales is the first Yamaha rider to win the opening two races of a season since Wayne Rainey in 1990!

Next round in Texas.

This weekend sees round 3 in Texas.

Free practise saw everyone complaining about the track being slippery and a bit bumpy in places. Every team except Yamaha managed to at throw least one bike down the road.

Q1 saw the slowest riders battle it out to see who would join Q2 for the top grid places. Q1 saw Miller and Lorenzo go through comfortably.

Q1 saw some very quick laps. Miller put it down on his first quick lap and Rossi and Vinales got a bit too close for comfort which spoiled their first laps. Marquez put in the fastest lap of the whole weekend with a time in the low 2:03's.

Final flying laps saw Vinales put in the first sub 2:03 lap of the weekend and take provisional pole, though that didn't last for long as Marquesz put in a stunner to go marginally faster. Rossi sneaked up from 7th to 3rd on his last flying lap.

So there we have it       Marquesz, Vinales and Rossi for the top 3.

Should be an interesting race tomorrow, starting to look like a must win for Marquesz (who has never been beaten at this track) otherwise another win for Vinales will leave a very uphill rest of the season for Marquesz.

Steady ish kind of race today.

The start saw Pedrosa very quick off the mark from row 2 on the grid to lead after the first corner with Marquesz, Rossi and championship leader Vinales in close pursuit.

Vinales didn't last too long though as he laid the bike down at turn 18 on the second lap.....race over for him.

Pedrosa did a decent job of holding off Marquesz but finally had to concede and from then on first place never looked in doubt.

Rossi picked up a 0.3 second penalty after being pretty much forced off the track and making a slight gain from the resultant short cut.

Rossi finally overtook Pedrosa with 2 laps to go and quickly put some distance between them so in the end the penalty was irrelevant.

Race finished Marquesz, Rossi and Pedrosa.

Rossi now leads the championship by 6 points after three rounds. Not bad for a 38 year old who really seems to have been racing forever!

Nicky Haydon RIP.

2006 Moto GP champion Nicky Haydon has tragically died today aged 35. He was riding a bicycle in Italy last Wednesday when he was involved in an accident with a car which left him critically injured. He was put into a medically induced coma but sadly died today.

They did a very moving tribute to him at this weekends Donington WSB round.

Not a bad lineup following an interesting Quali'.

Marquez on Pole for the 8th time.
Lor not quite so unhappy in outright wet conditions...see what tomorrow brings but amazing how quickly it can dry out at Sachsenring.
Petrucci adding plenty of interest again as he came through from Q1 to almost take Pole....he's re-signed for another year so presumably he'd still be available to Ducati if Lorenzo doesn't 'make the cut'.
Vin seems to have lost his way a bit for now.
Rossi likely to be up there again from 9th.
Good day for Folger.

So far so good - the sun has got his hat on.

Time for Lorenzo to shine?

I'd given up on this thread.....glad to see you revived it.

Just watched the Moto 3 race.....only 0.2 of a second covered the first 3 across the line, nice racing.

Track looks good and the weather looks good so could be some close stuff in the next races.

So, good win for Marquesz and Honda, keeps it all tight at the top.

Anyone remember these from the olden days?

Marc on top form and had to be as Folger chased him right to the finish
Good day for Honda , Yamaha did OK in the end and Ducati a bit confused.
A different look to the Championship Table as they now take a well earned Summer Break, with Petrucci saying he doesn't want one bless 'im.
Marquez fan here who wouldn't mind at all if Rossi did it, but somehow I feel Vinales is the best bet....and loving Petrucci in there too.
Never liked Lorenzo since he came into Yamaha and dissed Rossi so badly driving him out, so Som Nam Na to him for now.
Pretty tight up there for the top 4 (5?) now,.

I remember 8-10 of us following the likes of Fogarty, Aaron Slight and Scott Russell around back in the days of the RC45.
Riding down to Monza for WSB on the ZZR1100 was probably the most memorable, especially as the next day we set off on the ride up to Assen for the TT/Grand Prix the following Saturday.
Happy Days............

Wasn't as good a race as Assen however at least Danny bothered to turn up for this one. Shame Scott didn't. His seat seems to be up for grabs sadly which is a shame as he was doing great in the first few races.

Mine :)

^^^^^^^^

Nice bike.

My RC45 is not a rider, just a museum piece.....still brand new 0 miles never started or registered.

I'm probably a bit too old for riding sports bikes now but if I wanted to then I'm sure there are plenty of modern bikes out there that would be much nicer to ride anyway.

Brno it is this weekend.

Missed the qualifying yesterday but its Marquez, Rossi and Pedrosa at the front.

Weather is a bit up and down, forecast where I live is 80% chance of rain....okay that's a few hundred kilometres away from Brno in a straight line but it looks like the whole region has a similar forecast. If nothing else the track temperatures will be a lot different to yesterday so could be an interesting race.

So Marquez has the right strategy and wins by a country mile.

Rossi had a decent race on slicks but Yamaha strategy.......!!!

Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory?

Great result for Marquez and Honda.

Good recovery by Yamaha.

Lorenzo remains a mystery to me.

Have to watch it again, did Marc really let them pass him so he could pit without them following him in? Well his Mum said so it must be right?

Not that they caught on too quick.

Yes, looks like Mum was right, pretty obvious if you're only watching Marc, he dropped from 2nd to 10th in one lap then pitted.

Commentator said "Marquez has been beaten up".....he meant the others just got mugged.   :Laugh1:

There's no way that was deliberate as he had no way of knowing if others would pit that lap too. Turns out was a poor tyre choice that dropped him back and forced the bike change that handed him a 'dominant' win on a plate. Rossi, Dovi and Lorenzo were the big losers but no one came out of it looking good. MGP teams struggle with strategy calls in wet races, always have. Vinales had a positive race. Needed it, maybe it will help reboot his season?

On sadder news RIP Mark Fincham who succumbed to his injuries following a horrific crash in the 1000cc superstock at the Thruxton BSB event.

I'll probably stick with Mum's version anyway, but I did google around and didn't find what you're referring to....link?

If it was just a poor tyre choice that must be a record for how quick he was to reach that conclusion, especially from 2nd place...about half a lap?
Of course others might have pitted that lap too.......only they'd have had to do it in front of him and not following his lead......only they didn't.
A miracle also that the bike was there ready and waiting for his Hi Ho Silver routine and especially when you consider that despite all the extra time Ducati had they still managed to ruin Lorenzo's race.......or so he claimed     http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/131143   (time to give his bike to Petrucci?)

Sorry, but it stills looks like a masterstroke by Marquez and his team, I don't see how they would have been that ready otherwise.

Oh, and a few others seem to agree :-

Rossi - "Normally I'm the stupid one, this time we're 5".
Crutchlow - "Marc out-foxed us".
Marquez - "Today I wanted to take a risk".

Crash Report -  Repsol Honda's Marc Marquez outsmarted the opposition at Brno .......................

Edit - Yes of course it was a poor tyre choice, for all of them as it turned out, but one made it right.   :P

No, he lucked into it. Among a sea of poor tyre choices he managed to chose worst (soft wets) yet that meant he won easily. On the feed here we could see every single team readying their bikes at lap one. Seems the whole world knew slicks were the way to go except the guys on the track. If anyone had been brave enough to start the race on slicks they'd have probably won it!
