I may sound a bit thick by asking this question but how do I edit a post or a thread that I started? Wherever I look I can't find an 'edit' button.

At Member status you have limited access.  Getting to Advanced will open up some new facilities for you.  Even then the amount of time you have to edit a Post is limited, stops folks backtracking and removing content when they've caused a problem, and stops the system getting fk-d up.

If you have issues that need sorting out and it's not just a minor edit to a Post, contact a Mod.
