Smooci Pattaya launch update

We are delaying our Pattaya launch in order to add better communication and bartering, which seems more necessary for the Pattaya market. We are planning to add a chat and 'make offer' system which we will be able to test and launch in Pattaya, hopefully around the new year. We will keep you updated.

We are sorry about the delay. We did plan to launch in Pattaya late last year, but we admittedly didn't understand the Pattaya market well enough, which seem more unique, compared to Bangkok (which is more traditional of a big city).

We felt launching Smooci in Pattaya as it is wouldn't work without the ability for clients and companions to chat and barter, and we now have the idea on how to do that, we just need to get that built.

We are sure it will be worth the wait and the new system we have in mind should make it more effective in Pattaya.

Actually smooci is a great concept and if the religious crazyfolk and feminists arent burning the witch hopefully there will be something global like grab taxi. I would buy some stocks if that would go public

I'm a little conflicted on the Smooci concept.

I just read Stickman's latest article on it (October 7th). 

I did think that his latest article was a blatant advertorial, given that his site carries advertising for Smooci and he did appear to use some fairly hyperbolic language in describing how good the concept was.

But, to his credit, he did respond very quickly when I emailed him and said I thought he'd crossed the line in his latest weekly submission (that led with a 'Smooci is Snowballing' headline)...he assured me that this was not an advertorial and his site gets no advertising revenue from Smooci despite advertising on there 

It may be a great option for Bangkok...and I welcome it if it brings down the crazy prices there.  But I do think Pattaya will be a struggle unless TF is shut down and/or gets really more zealous about blocking FL's from their site (and he did concede Pattaya would be a harder sell).

I personally think their business model is flawed.  If they don't take a cut from escort bookings and only rely on premium memberships, I think they'll struggle.  But maybe there's enough folks to swap out their TF monthly subscriptions for Smooci?...but Smooci can be used for free, like TF.

How many BM's on this board would pay for a premium Smooci membership, adding to the 5000 baht (BKK) norm for 2 hrs with an escort, unless they drastically cut that rate for Patts? 

I've always paid the going-rate of 1000-1500 for an hour with a TF FL (without having to subscribe to TF premium)...why pay more unless the quality or verification is dramatically better?  Sure, I've had some starfish and photoshopped fuglies on TF, but it's been in the minority and I'm not sure it's worth paying so much more on Smooci?

Okay, I'll take the opposing view, and as a disclaimer, I have no connection to Smooci at all, other than as an interested observer. :-)

I'll agree that Smooci as an Escort collector (centralized view of several different escort service providers) would be a far less than optimal business model in Pattaya. Pattaya just doesn't have Escort service providers. Maybe if you were very broad in the definition you could count Devil's Den, but I doubt Devil's Den would be willing to give up interfacing directly with their customer base. 

The long time (a year and a half and still waiting) plan for Pattaya is to open Smooci to individual contractors/freelancers, and that I think would work out extremely well. Part of the issue with dating sites like ThaiFriendly is that with recently passed US Legislation (meddling bastards) most online sites are actively deleting profiles that are too blantantly sex for pay listings. Of course they don't get all of them, but if you've looked at TF for a while, you probably noticed they have gotten tamer. If you've patronized TF for a while, surely you know ladies who have a hard time keeping their profiles up more than a couple of days without them being administratively deleted. Craigslist removed their "Personals" catagory completely, worldwide, though personal ads migrated to Services. Smooci may be able to avoid that US interference, though perhaps not. 

If Smooci can ever get their freelancer application written and operational before I die of old age, I think it will be a great fit for Pattaya and for the individual freelancers in Pattaya who hear about it. But yes, with only escort agency participation, Pattaya would be a bust.

I actually agree with you on most points Garzan!

If they can make it work and get down to TF-like rates in Pattaya, I think it will be a great thing.

I get your point about TF getting tighter on deleting explicit P4P profiles, but I think it still has a critical mass that will take Smooci a long time to catch up with. 

I just think Smooci may find it hard to make a profit on premium memberships only, at least within the Pattaya marketplace...but I hope I'm proved wrong! 

If I was them, I'd ask for a monthly subscription or per booking commission from agencies/freelancers, but I suspect this puts them on the wrong side of the law and/or puts them at a disadvantage to TF?

I did get a little pissed off by Stickman's apparent puff piece for the site, so I realise this may have influenced my comments

Thanks for the constructive responses.

It's very important to us that we stick to our monetizing model, only earning via premium subscriptions and not take any cut or fee related to the actual booking payments. This helps us to be fully focussed on making the best possibly platform, bring in new features and improve the experience. We try to keep the fees similar to datings sites, we don't allow any auto-rebilling, and the free membership is very usable. All of this helps us to build trust and create a healthy playform.

Our concept as a business is to only charge for what we can control and take responsibility for, which is the platform. While we could earn significantly more be taking a cut of the booking fees this changes are focus from creating the best platform to generating the maximum number of bookings.

By only charging for premium memberships it also allows the escort and agencies to offer the most competitive rates they can, knowing they don't have to factor in any additional fees.

Premium membership numbers are in a healthy state and we are earning enough to grow. When we launched premium payments just over a year ago around 20% of clients became premium. This has  grown to 40% of clients being premium and we expect this to grow further when we are able to introduce a system which allows clients to chat and negotiate before confirming a booking. 

We were planning to launch in Pattaya 6 months ago but we quickly realised Smooci wouldn't work so well there until we have that ability to chat and nagotiate in place.

I like smooci in Bangkok and use it when I am there. However looking at the prices the Independent Girls (most ask much more then the Agency Girls) ask there, I hope there will never be a smooci in Pattaya or the prices would go up a lot.

Sorry for laughing, but Pattaya has been 'coming soon' for at least a year and a half with no real project date even now. Smooci in Pattaya is one of those things you just have to relax about, and it happens when it happens. 

And not to detract from Smooci's technical difficulties, but they do have a technical challenge in a place like Pattaya with a huge freelance population, and a minimal escort population. It's not a matter of just duplicating an existing city model onto Pattaya since the existing cities use excort agencies for service providers. That model fails when there aren't excort agencies. :-)

We are about to release a new chat feature which allows premium members to chat with escorts without having to place a booking, and for escorts to send offers after negotiations/chats.

If this feature works well it will put us in a better position to be able to launch in Pattaya. It should be ready within the next 12 days.

The big problem Smooci is going to face immediately in Pattaya is to either invent some agencies to work with, OR........ decide from the start to be a freelance promotion tool.  Option 1 is really a star dream.   Option 2 is going to end up with Smooci trying to drink from a full on fire hydrant.  

TF business would fairly quickly transition to Smooci.  Now, if you say it fast, and you are not in charge of keeping the web site up and going, it sounds great.... However, going from zero to trying to absorb what I would expect to be 1000 to 1500 applications to be their next freelance of the day, is going to crash the site.  TF is banning girls it looks like dozens per day, if not hundreds.  The religious groups, and nutters with a hard on about being slighted by some freelancer call in to TF, mention the TF Id.  and boom.  The girls ID is closed.  

This is going to be a real headache for Smooci.  That said, I hope they do open this can of worms, and have enough programmers, assistants, to keep the site going.  My guess is in less than a week, Pattaya traffic will be greater than ALL the traffic with ALL the other locations combined.  A real start up nightmare.  But it could prove to be a very lucrative adventure.  It would really give a lot of incentive to go Premium if all these girls could keep a profile there, not getting banned every 3 days, and develop a good history of reviews, which can only be seen if premium.  

I am a premium member on TF, and a premium member as of yesterday on Smooci.  I think the added info, to weed out the bad players, even if it saves me 1 or 2 bad experiences, makes it well worth it.  I do not get the option to go for 2 or 3 or 4 weeks to Pattaya.  When I go, it is max 3  days.  Mostly as a pass through on my trips needed to keep my business in other countries alive.  So for me it is a no brainer.  For the month stayers, non-premium and the PA site would be fine I am sure.  

Wishing good luck to Smooci to try and open.  But the warning is real... be ready for a complete overwhelming of business for freelancers trying to sign up.  There is a LOT of backed up anger at TF in the girl's side of that site.  I am sure just one of the reasons the TF site is not in Thailand.  These girls would storm the doors if they could get to them....
