Highlight for me was Vettel squeezing Verstappen as he went to overtake , so the young pup went around the outside of Vettel and squeezied him back .

The villainous bosche didn't like that  !   great stuff .

His comment was quality too. "Oh so we are playing bumper cars now"

Sensible of the stewards both did it and they enjoyed watching it as we did no collisions so carry on.

Hungary it is this week as we enter the second half of the season.

Free practise sessions yesterday saw Ricciardo going the quickest.

Onto today and Masa is replaced by Paul Di Resta due to some health issues. Di Resta qualifies 19th, only 0.7 seconds away from going through to Q2.....not bad for someone who only drove the car for 11 laps before setting this time.

Q2 had no real surprises with Hamilton the quickest.

Q3 saw Hamilton abort his first run after a big wobble on turn 4. A stellar lap from Vettel and Raikonen gave Ferrari a front row lock out with Mercedes taking the second row and Red Bull the third row.

Interesting race tomorrow???? We shall see.

Last race before the summer break so will it be Hamilton or Vettel who go into the break as the leader.

Indeed.

As this is a chassis track rather than an out and out power track it shows how good the Mclaren chassis is and how badly let down it is by the engine package.

Am hoping the red bulls and mclarens can get a flyer off the line and get amongst the top 4. Reckon Alonso might do something decent tomorrow  (if his engine doesn't blow up when he touches the accelerator)

Maybe they should ask Triumph....

....Honda having handed over the Moto2 engine contract to them?

So, not a very exciting race in the end but how often is it exciting in Hungary.

A clean start and the Ferrari's are into the lead with Lewis dropping back to 6th. Our only real bit of excitement comes a couple of corners later when Vertappen runs into his team mate and puts him out of the race. Verstappen picks up a 10 second penalty which in the end probably keeps him off a podium finishing place.

With the race in procession mode Vettel develops some kind of steering issue and Kimi plus the Mercedes close the gap somewhat.

Kimi wants Vettel to move over and let him past but that doesn't happen (of course).

Lewis reckons he is quicker than Bottas and the Merc's do swap but despite closing up to DRS active distance Lewis cannot get past Kimi and on the very last corner Lewis gives the position back to Bottas.....can't imagine Vettel would have been so sportsman like with his team mate!!!

So, finishes Vettel, Raikonnen and Bottas with Lewis 4th.

Special mention 1) goes to Verstappen who, after his very late pit stop drove a blistering race to finish hot on the heels of the Merc's. On any other race track he may even have managed to overtake one of them.

Special mention 2) goes to Alonso who not only finished the race but managed 6th place and if that wasn't enough he puts in the fastest lap of the race on his last lap. If only they had another 50 or 60 horsepower!

Ah but will Verstappen still be alive after Ricciardo gets hold of him he sounded really pissed off and this is the man you could kick in the balls and he would still be smiling.  :D

And both Mclaren engine's developed faults the Auto Destructs failed & they finished the race in 6th & 10th and not only that Alonso was not lapped & had the fastest lap :D

Alonso sitting on a deck chair on the mural was pure class. No way that would have happened with Bernie still around

Hopefully Honda get it together and get an extra 100 BHP into alonso's car and he can challenge at the front

Kmag told hulk to "suck my balls, honey" in the press pen live on tv afterwards too when Hulk confronted him over the incident near the end

I doubt Honda will catch up with power this year but it is looking better, maybe next year.

I wouldn't bet on it and I doubt Fernando will either. Sauber are certainly not convinced. Honda may well get there in the end but their reticence in allowing any outside assistance isn't helping them and being an automotive giant with a fantastic F1 history is no guarantee of future performance. The regs are changing in a few years anyway so they better get their skates on!

I think Hungary gets a bad rap in terms of exciting races, there have been more than many people assume.

Ok, this is 30+ years ago but possibly one of the greatest overtakes ever, even if it was done by Piquet on God :)

Far from the greatest driver even Piquet Patrese has a great sense of humour (and great taste in women :) )

After a months break the F1 kicks off again this weekend .

Spa and then next week Monza  ,  2 of the power circuits where Ferrari may just have it over Mercedes and Red Bull .  Should be good racing .

Mercedes is still the engine, and the car to have imo and that of most pundits I've listened to.

It is very soon getting to the point of engine penalty points for some of the major teams but Mercedes still are only on the 2nd of the 4 allowed.

Vettal is on his 4th and last Turbo Raikkonen  is on his 3rd as far as I know. Also Red Bull both cars on their last MGU-H.

McClaren-Honda well they have used everything so whatever they change will get a penalty.

Kimi gets another years Ferrari contract playing 2nd fiddle to Mr Sulky and banking the cheques.

Will they place Leclerc in the Sauber? Will Gasly or Giovinazzi get F1 seats next year? Wehrlein?

Ferrari running well in free practice  at Spa , but no idea on fuel loads and all the other variables .

Qualifying is what really counts , and hoping that these next 2 weekends produce some quality racing  with circuits that the young pup Max can rattle a few cages .
