But it looks like i wont get it back till after i go away next week. So can i install itunes on this laptop and add the new tunes i have on here WITHOUT losing all the tunes that are on my Ipod already.....................??

All my tunes are on another PC that i can't get at right now. I want to add new tunes to my Ipod from this laptop. Will i lose the tunes that are on it already?

But i notice that Vista and Itunes are not totaly in sync yet so will just wait.............

From what I gather, what you are saying is that you want to add more tunes to your existing ones, as your Ipod has an internal hard drive there should be no problem in copying across new songs. Hope this helps, but if you want to be sure, copy all the tunes from your Ipod and then add them again plus your new ones.

you need to set up i tunes before you connect your i-pod . Set i-tunes to manually update your i-pod ie the tick boxes on the left hand side and i think only sync checked items ( think this is the way to go BUT not 100% sure you may loose all tracks on your i-pod )

I think there are some third party software programs out there that will do what you want.

There used to be an internet site called the Ipod Lounge, or something like that. They have forums with questions and answers. Someone on there will surely have an answer.

If you download Itunes to the new laptop and attach the Ipod you run the risk of it synching with Itunes and therefore deleting all the tracks on your Ipod. Assuming they remain on your old pc this is no big deal as you can plug your Ipod into that when it comes back from repair and re-synch it with that.

You can upload from Ipod to pc, essentially using your Ipod as the hard-drive it is and transferring the information stored on it from drive E (or whatever drive your PC recognises your Ipod as) to the laptop's hard drive ( C ). I did this some time ago using software called Ephpod. I just had a wee look and can't actually remember how to do it from there but did a bit of further research and this looks better:

Anapod Copy Gear

I would download the trial version of their copy software to the new laptop, hook the laptop up to the Ipod and then save the contents of the Ipod to a designated area of the laptop (maybe easiest to create a new folder in the desktop). When you get Itunes up and running you should be able to drag the contents of that folder into Itunes.

I have not tried it using this particular software and, as I say, Ephpod looks to have changed since I used it to do this but, given that you will have the fallback of your database on the old pc should anything go wrong, it is definitely worth a try.

Or a beating if you end up with a blank Ipod! Let me know if it works.

There is a program called CopyPod that allows you to copy all songs off your Ipod onto a PC or laptop without losing them from your Ipod. It costs $30 max and it works well.

I think you should make a backup of your playlist to your hard drive. Select all and click copy. Go to whatever folder you choose on your harddrive and paste. If you have a extreme amount of music it will take awhile. I do now and then now, the Apple store suggested I do that, but to be real safe it would probably be better to do it to some external drive so if your computer crash's you will be able to recover the files no problem.

Not sure how it works with DRM files, but for mp3's on a PC copying is easy:

iTunes allows only one-way synchronization of musics from computer to iPod, so if for whatever reasons such as need to reload your library on local hard disk due to desktop hard disk failure or buying new computer, you can easily copy back the video, music and song library from iPod on a Windows PC by following steps:

Insert your iPod to a Windows PC USB or FireWire port. (PC should runs Windows XP or other Windows operating system).

If your Windows PC still doesn’t have iTunes installed, skip this step. If iTunes is already installed and prompt a message on whether if you’d like to associate this iPod with this computer and deleting its content, click No. Or else you will lose your only copy of library on iTunes. Beside, ensure that ‘Enable Disk Use’ is selected.

Open My Computer or Windows Explorer, the iPod should be automatically detected as a portable hard drive.

Click on the iPod icon or the iPod portable hard drive letter to open the contents of the drive.

If you don’t see a folder called “iPod Control”, it’s hidden and invisible. To unhidden it so that it’s visible, go to Tools -> Folder Options -> View, and then check (enable) the option “Show hidden files and folders.”

Open the “iPod Control” folder, and then the Music folder.

The Music folder contains the iPod’s music and videos, divided into folders. Copy the library to local computer hard drive’s My Music folder.

The files copied have unintelligible four-letter file names. To reveal the names of the songs and other data tags, add the files to the Windows Media Player or iTunes libraries or switch to “Tiles” view in Windows Explorer.

Rename the file if necessary.
