Areca and Empress, both nice properties ... both aging (like a lot of the properties in Pattaya).

Looking at pricing on cheapest available rooms (~approx) ...

28 Feb

Empress = 2821

Areca = 2200

15 Mar

Empress = 2565

Areca = 2000

31 Mar

Empress = 2565

Areca = 1900

Empress has a good percentage of jacuzzi rooms and is on Beach Rd.  Areca is closer to LK Metro and extremely popular among board members.  Both properties are girl-friendly.  For purposes of my model, Empress comes in at 8.1, with Areca coming in at 8.3.  Empress is within 1 US mile of all three nightlife districts.

For me definitely Areca. My default choice for several years

Likes: great location (lk metro, soi buakhao around the corner, quick baht bus ride to soi 6 or ws), good/ok rooms + 2 pools, nice staff

Dislikes: 500 thb for second lady, wifi

Whats areca lodge like for location vs Empress? I like Empress's location on Beach rd, and close to Walking Street. I never went to Soi Buakhao last year so not sure if that area is good for a 2nd visit Pattaya Newbie :)

Hi Rajin, I stayed in both, both are good, guest friendly, Lk has nicer rooms but may be more expensive. Locations for both are good.

Here is a video of the Lk I took on youtube

I just switched from page 10 hotel to areca after 5 days. Both rooms cost about the same.

I am very regretful i did that to be honest..

Page 10 has a huge bathroom with walkin rainshower with enough space for 5 people and a possibility to watch the shower from the bed.

Now i just entered a super delux twin room in areca evergreen and the shower area is in a tiny bathtub. And the showerhead is FIXXED in the wall! Atleast give me a detachable shower i can use to reach all my parts.

So disappointed that this dares to be in the same price range as page 10 and gets such good reviews here.

If the fact that LK Empress is more expensive  isn't an issue, what is the better hotel?

They are both good. LK The Empress is the best if you are wanting a sea view (which will cost more, or if you go for a pool view you might get a sea view as well), Got a small pool though. Decent size rooms with separate tub and shower. Decent Breakfast.

Areca has 2 decent size pools you don't feel like your in a bustling city when chilling out by them. The rooms not as good, but still decent, great breakfast.

As someone who can't stretch to the sea view price  at the LK Empress (I have other things to spend money on while I am in Pats), the Areca is better.

Just stayed at Areca last week. Verdict: not coming back. The only thing good about this hotel is its location, but I found out that Pattaya is real small, everywhere is walkable or just a baht bus or a motorbike away so location is not that important. Maybe I will try the Empress next time.

i just stayed at LK , I will probably go back ,

I like the location ,

3 girls wasnt an issue for me , there is the famous side entrance through the family mart , to the back lift, away from the lobby , no questions asked ,

Thai girls think its fully upper class, they are impressed with the place,  must be the weird furniture etc :)

I stayed at Areca evergreen wing in December last year and it was good for the price.  It like a mini resort with two nice pools and very large rooms.  Its a bit of a walk to walking street but right next door to LK Metro.  its also a long walk though the property, walking from the evergreen wing to the street can take a little while.  The bathroom is meh, with just a shower tub.  I am looking at going back again this year and am considering Areca again.

the thing I hated most at Areca (beside the shower tube, the wifi :-)) is the a/c of my room. It took a long time to cool the room, like an hour or so. The location is good though, so if I'm coming back to the LK Metro area, I probably will try the LK Metro Hotel which is a few steps away from this hotel.

Also, the girl who sat people at the Evergreen building breakfast is just cold. It seems like it bothers her to be there, not a good impression for the hotel.

I'm done with Areca. I like the property itself but after 5 stays there I consider myself lucky that I haven't got injured yet while climbing in and out of the bath tub. And I need to shower several times a day in Thailand. Too dangerous for an old man...

If you're pretty far up there in years or for whatever reason not exactly spry (like maybe a morbidly obese 350 pound fat American), Tarpon's comments are worth noting.  :Think1:

Girls have to be over 20 in Areca. Fuck that. Shagging 18 year olds is my specialty!

Only stayed at Areca twice before and enjoyed my stay. Try and stay in the newer wing at the far side of the second swimming pool. It's a good hotel and the huge swimming pools are the main benefits there. Breakfast when I was there was good too and the location is very near LK metro.

I stayed in LK back in Oct 2017, my room was sea view jacuzzi. I thought i would be getting one of the rooms overlooking the road and beach, unfortunately the room is located in the back building. The sea view was meh, nothing to look at.... also the balcony is tiny. I guess what i wanted was the beach side view. The hotel isn't bad, good staff, good food and good location, I would stay again in a standard room. The sea view rooms aren't worth the money.

Areca is my go-to spot in Patts because of the combination of price, location and accommodations.

ROOMS 3.5*

The rooms themselves are perfectly acceptable.  Clean and a decent amount of space.   3.5* out of 5.0* in my opinion.

POOLS  4.0*

Pools are nice enough and both get plenty of sunlight depending on the time of day.   Easy to switch pools depending on where the sun is in the sky.

BREAKFAST  3.0*

Eh, it's okay.  Not bad - not great just okay.   The highlight is definitely the omelet station where you can get eggs cooked to order.   Rest of the breakfast is fair.  I found the meat quality in some of the Thai dishes to sometimes be a bit sketchy.  3.0*

LOCATION 5.0*

This is why I stay here.  In my opinion there is not a better location in all of Patts.  Easy walk to LK Metro, Soi Honey and Soi Champoo.   Also an easy stroll to second road where you can hop the baht bus to Soi 6 and be there within five minutes of leaving your room.   Walking Street is probably a 15 minute walk but I just hop on a motorbike taxi - 50 baht.
