Been there once few years ago, did not like it: dirty rooms, bad smell and service. I migh have been unlucky but decided not to return

I stayed there once, in 2003, NEVER AGAIN. The novelty quickly wears off when you realize you're grossly overpaying for a dump.

They show porn on the Telly for all that go to Pattaya for a wank.

Because it's an overpriced smelly dump in the middle of Boyztown.

It was an interesting short stay option 10-15 years ago but the Soi has changed as has the hotel.

agree totally was good 10 years ago for a one night stay with a girl who knew how to play. But last time I stayed there 8 years ago my room stunk like pee and after changed rooms smell was just as bad. Also club downstairs was good some realy nice girls.then they joined their ladyboy club with it ( had seperate entry previously )and once that happened them bitches would annoy the shit out of you to get your attention even after making it clear you were there for the girls. But if your into that it's your choice in middle of boyztown but much better and cheaper hotels around. I personally like staying at Secrets hotel.

Stayed there a couple times in early 2000's cheaper rooms are on lower floors

So if not a good sleeper you will hate it as noise coming from gogo bar underneath.. shocking

Also bed hard as a rock

When leave room come back hot as key comes out no power..

And lastly some of the Monger poofs  hire the male waiters there once coming out of my room and a waiter come out of room next to me doing up his pants.... that night i kept a eye out who was the poof in the room never did catch the prick........

I've stayed there multiple times and had no problems. I like that there's absolutely no pretense about it. It's an adult hotel built for adult fun. No walk of shame here. The over the top decor cracks me me, and usually makes the girls smile too.

I'm very sensitive to both smells and noise, and have never had a problem with those either. Never saw a bug.

The free breakfast is adequate, and the room service decent. I actually like the location.

I know it's not to everyone's taste, but I think it's fun.

Good to know. Thanks. I'm booked there for January. Any advice on a particular room? My main concern is toilet in separate room and large jacuzzi

Here's what i know about the penthouse. I have never been but am booked there for early 2018. At oyster.com you can get a good look at all the rooms. Despite what you see in the pics, all the rooms are different.

My main concern was having a room with a toilet in a separate room. Some of the rooms had the toilet in the main room separated by a curtain. The other concern was having a large jacuzzi.

The staff was very friendly in accommodating me over email. I am booked in #410. It's a babylon suite. It's on a high floor in the back of the hotel so it should be fairly quiet. It also has one of the largest jacuzzi tubs and was renovated in 2015.  I wanted one with a balcony but this room didn't come with one. I took it anyway cuz of the large jacuzzi and privacy with separate bathroom. I'll report back when I come back.

Despite what I read here, I can say the staff has been super accomdating via email. We've probably exchanged at least 20 emails and they have always been polite and answered my questions thoroughly.

The Penthouse is definitely worth a visit or 2. A Pattaya old timer introduced me to it last year, and I had a birthday celebration there this year. We rented 4 side by side rooms on the 2nd floor with access to the pool deck.

The pool deck is nice, with a small pool, lots of lounge furniture, and beautiful plantings and gardening. A nice oasis in the busiest part of town. The rooms are incredible, with mirrored ceilings and walls, dance platforms, disco lights, sex swings, condoms and vibrators on the mini bar, and hedonistic decoration everywhere in the guest rooms and common areas. Despite the negatives, the amazing decor of the hotel makes it worthy of at least a one night visit. And we had a great party with lots of bar girls, pictures and fun.

As far as negatives, of course there are some, most already mentioned, so here is my critique.

- As far as "smell", true no smell of fresh paint and new carpet, and it is true that there are a few cats living in the common areas. But I had no problem with "the smell", nor did my wife who can be ultra picky about such things. I've been in much more musty, foul smelling hotels than this one. And one thing to keep in mind while traveling in Asia is that bathroom shower and floor drains are not constructed the same as in western countries (there are no traps). In many hotels the bathrooms smell a bit foul due to the drain emitting the odor of "sewer gas". This is easily remedied by putting something like a magazine or wet face cloth over the drain when not in use. There was a bit of drain odor in the bathroom, but that is nothing unusual here. It might be an issue to someone new to Asia, but the Penthouse is no different from 90% of hotels in Asia in that regard.

- As far as being run down, it was not built yesterday but if it was built decades ago I am shocked by how well it has stood the test of time. On a scale of 1 - 10 with 1 being most run down, I'd give it a 6 or 7. Lots of concrete and marble construction that looks great. I recently stayed at the Suntosa on Koh Larn, which was rated as the best hotel there, and it was approximately equal to the Penthouse in the "run down" category. So true the Penthouse is not a brand new hotel, but it is not horribly run down either. It's about average for 1500 Baht or less properties, and equal to some costing more.

- As far as maintenance issues, my room had a lose sink faucet, and one of the 4 rooms had a weak AC unit. We lived with the faucet and they allowed the guest with weak AC to change rooms without issue.

- To me the craziest thing about our visit is that I initially booked the rooms in person at the front desk. Some of the other guests wanted to book additional nights in advance, and tried to use Agoda and other hotel booking sites. I believe it was Agoda that said they were "sold out", and Penthouse didn't even appear on the others. The hotel was most definitely not sold out, it was nearly empty. I mentioned this to the manager and he said that "those booking sites don't work well". Hmmm.  One of my friends booked a different hotel for the remainder of his visit because he didn't want to book through the Penthouse site, which doesn't do instantaneous bookings and requires a bit of email correspondence.

- The road outside the hotel was under construction when we were there which was a minor inconvenience, but I believe it's done now so no need to worry about that, and no need to worry about tripping in potholes while stumbling home at night.

- The bar next door is currently closed, as it has been for about a year. According to management it is "under renovation", but I expect that it's at the phase were they are looking for a new tenant to fund the renovation (there was no renovation work going on). I guess it would be slightly more fun (and noisy) if there was an active bar attached, but it's not like there is any lack of alternative bars to visit in the area.

- The breakfast was good, as was the food service through out the day. The staff were pleasant, accommodating and polite.

So my overall impression is that despite a few quirks, the Penthouse is a great place that definitely deserves a visit. Is it worth the price? For a night or two, yes. Every person with an interest in the subject manner of this forum should visit the Penthouse at least once!

I’ve stayed there multiple times over the years, including twice in the last month.   These stories from 10 or 15 years ago may have been valid then, but not now.

The girls always have an interesting reaction to the rooms.  Most of the ones I’ve taken there laugh and get into it. A couple just looked bewildered.  One thought it was spooky and saw ghosts.  I like it because it’s honest.  There’s no pretense here. It’s purely for adults. No worry about a walk of shame because there isn’t any.

I do have to share one story that made me smile and say “This is Pattaya”:

Two weeks ago I popped down for the weekend and stayed there.  As I was leaving my room and going to the elevator, I ran into a beautiful Thai woman who was checking out of her room and catching the elevator as well.  She was pulling her suitcase out of her room, but also had a small hand cart with boxes filled with...something.  But what made me smile was what was sitting on top of the boxes...a clear container containing live mice.  I have no idea whether they were for her, a client she was entertaining there or maybe a pet snake in the box.

The thing is, she was gorgeous, Thai, and spoke great English. I did chat with her a bit but didn’t have the guts to ask her about the mice.  I kick myself for not doing so now.

Where else could you see something like that?!

I have stayed a couple of times in the past.  You have to try it once for the novelty and fun.  The only thing I will add is the mattress was way to hard for me and after a couple of days I had aches and a tough time trying to get comfortable.  Pretty fun rooms though and the closed circuit tv of the go go was nice.  See something interesting just send it up to your room.

Sadly, Obsessions Gogo has been closed for more than a year now, so no more CCTV of the dancers.  Just two porn channels on the TV.  One straight, one ladyboy.

I enjoyed reading the numerous negative reviews on TripAdvisor.

The guy who replies to them (the manager?) is a real hoot.  Basil Fawlty 2.0

The over-riding theme in the negative reviews is that the place is in desperate need of a good clean, has a dragon-lady on reception and that there is a significant cockroach problem.

I've stayed there 6 or 7 times and have never once seen a cockroach.  They do have a can of bug spray in every room, so maybe I'm an exception.

And every hotel could use a good cleaning :)

I’ve always wanted to stay here with the disco and dance poles to have my personal agogo.

Maybe next time.

Everytime I read about the pen house hotel, I recall reading a members report saying he brought her back and she said...

wait for it.....

“make me scare”

:D
