Anyway, I thought a new company has now taken over the development?

No guarantee that ANY buyer will have previous contracts honoured.

Liabilities don't have to be taken on board by the new company in Thailand.

That's what I was thinking, and even if it's the same actual people, they'd do it with a new company?  as surely there's no Phoenix Laws to stop that over here in Thailand.  So the "unit owners" will just get an offer to 'buy' the units they thought they already bought :) ?? albeit that's only idle speculation on my part.

I see some brave souls have climbed the crane on top of the waterfront building.

That thing has been up there unattended for several years. I'm expecting it to fall over any time.

Weren't the people who originally bought (off plan) condos there supposed to take possession of them in 2010? Or am I thinking of another Pattaya construction debacle?

Yes but I did notice not long ago that the place on Soi VC only had a couple of floors still standing.

I thought cranes like that were usually rented and were quite expensive. It must have cost a fortune to just leave it up there for years.
