Avani taking over the Marriott Resort in Pattaya

Well i felt that something was going on since it the last few days it was impossible to reserve directly on the Marriott site, this morning i just found the reason, the Avani group of hotels just took over...fucking big surprise for me. Having been there few times a year for the last six years, i have seen this hotel, especially in the last 2 years, loosing of its charm and professionalism, the service was not what it used to be and the rooms (in the main building) really needed  to be refreshed...so maybe that change would be beneficial for this hotel that remains for me one of the best in Pattaya.

If i'm not mistaking in this kind of cases it's one of the 2 reasons since the all place belongs probably to an investment group that gives it to be managed by an hotels group, in that case the Marriott. 1) the Marriott group is not satisfied by the way the local people manage the hotel and maybe not fulfilling their request since is an image to respect. 2) The investment group / owner think it's not worth financially to work with the Marriott who has a lot of requests (modernization of their hotels, technological issues in internet era etc..)...can be of course the 2 reasons all together...well i'm not a specialist, but this is what i usually understand from economical reviews.

Started out as the Royal Garden hotel before Marriott took it over.

Never actually been inside the hotel.

Wonder if it will stay as busy without the international name recognition?

The ownership of the hotel is not changing and they will maintain the same management and staff.  They are just breaking off their partnership with Marriott.  hotel policies probably will not change.  Marriott places a lot of demands on the hotels that use their name and the Pattaya Marriott definitely needed some major updates to meet standards.  Still a nice place, but I am not sure that I will be staying there anymore.  I got a lot of perks as a Marriott Gold member that I won't have anymore.

I stayed there this week during change over, it all went smoothly and they have already started upgrading rooms, girl friendly still ok, as I had a few , and yep Marriott perks have stopped, the best rooms are ground floor surrounding the pool, as gives direct access and also to beach road

Well thanks for the info, i used to be there few times a year, in january it will be my first time since Avani took over. You actually saying that just the name changed ? do you know if they also upgraded the sea view rooms ? that's the room category i usually reserve because the view is really outstanding , Thanks :)

Ate in the Garden Cafe at the hotel last well due to getting 45% on Eatigo.

Very limited buffet so went a la carte. Dreadful service. Slowest I've had anywhere.

Food was ok but not likely to return.

I stayed in a sea view room on the top floor. The room did appear to be well maintained but not sure it was recently updated. I'm not sure what they looked like when they were Marriott.  The room had dark wood floors, a tub and shower in a separate glass walled off section. I did not have any complaints about the room or hotel

Is it true that the gym is good there ? Thanks.

Yes it is pretty good if you are looking for a cardio and nautilus machine type of place. There are free weights but no serious cages for squats etc . Good enough that locals pay for separate membership. It has two relatively large rooms, one with cardio and one with machines and weights. Tennis courts on the "roof" I think. Decent locker room.

I've stayed in these rooms and like them. One downside for those that like walk in showers, I believe all these rooms have tub / shower combinations. In fact if I remember correctly the tubs are really high and so it makes for a precarious step over every time you want to take a shower. I'm guessing lots of old people have slipped and broke a hip in these rooms. :)

If the refurbs put in stand alone showers in the standard rooms I may give it a go if rooms interconnect. The location is brilliant .The garden terrace rooms are excellent..1bd though and  too pricey for what they are  despite them delivering a birthday cake to me as a suprise (lovely touch )

.I can get a 2 bed apartment in LK metropole 2-3x the size for the same price

Stayed there during my last trip in December. Rooms have been "slightly" refurbished but the bathrooms are terrible. This hotel needs to be renovated as it has been neglected for quite a while. The staff are OK but I think that you can get better value at the Hilton.

The breakfast buffet is still quite good though. Being a Marriott Platinum member I got it for free. I suspect that they will lose quite a bit of revenue since it is no longer part of the Marriott chain. The concierge lounge was deserted most of the time compared to previous time I stayed there.
