The Apex stopped its evening buffet earlier this year, but as far as I know, it still has the breakfast buffet.  From what I've heard, it's even worse than the buffet at the Lek.

Could very well be, i have never eaten in either,it`s just the BM was implying it had closed. Thanks for your threads btw. cheers

La Petite Planète near TukCom sometimes has imported beef on offer at very reasonable prices:

entrecôte as part of the set menu at 320 baht plus 35 baht extra;

tournedos at 350 baht with potato gratin and a lot of vegetables.

Yes, La Petite Planete is very good and reasonable in price;  I've eaten there many times and reviewed it at least twice.

Just to caution everyone- we need to be careful of labeling a restaurant as bad in the context of this thread.  It's more about individual dishes that were really bad.  The Boat Bakery on 2nd Road has closed now, but it certainly had it fans.  However, I don't think anyone but the Toxic Avenger could have liked that mystery meat soup.

You should probably be careful of Thai defamation laws also.

I shouldn't have compared the Apex breakfast buffet to a prison chow line.

When I think about it, the food and ambiance at the Apex is probably better than a prison.

We have to be careful, fair and accurate when identifying restaurants in this thread.  Was the place you had the bad T-bone on Soi Buakhao or a subsoi?   Could it have been Cafe Pitini?

Here's a better pic I lifted from the Internet:

Cafe Pitini usually gets good reviews, but I don't want to write too much until we hear from Nayanugi that Cafe Pitini was the one he visited. There is at least one other restaurant with a similar name nearby, but I don't think it does T-bone steak or breakfast.

Evil,  yes it is Pitini.   Sorry for both the long delay in responding as well as violating any forum posting rules.

I don't think you broke any rules.  It's just that if we are going to criticize a restaurant, we have to be sure it's the right one.

What I think is fair to say is that you got a bad steak at Pitini, but others who have eaten there have had good meals, myself included.  Thank you for the warning about the steak.

That turned out to be a hoax that had been cooked up in a closed Facebook group.  It had nothing to do with any reviews I had written, that was just the cover story.  It mostly had to do with something entirely different.  It's complicated.

If I run into you in Sapphire,  I'll tell you all about it.

I too am a fan of Cafe Pitini. Unfortunately my system does not tolerate spicy foods so I have to stick with 'falang food' and eat regularly in Pitini when in Pattaya. I have never had a bad meal in Pitini, but I would never have "special value steak" in any Asian restaurant as on the few occasions I have tried them years ago they were always tough and grizzly. For me Pitini is the best value place for "falang food" and probably even more so with the demise of Coins.

Caffe Pitini is Italian owned, but you will not find a decent minestrone there or a tiramisu.

Wow, in looking through my old pictures, here was the meal from P-72 I was talking about, from four years ago.

The omelette was fried in and was soaked with some very old and off tasting grease. At the time I was starved so ate all of it, and had some horrible stomach pains and diarrhea later on that kept me ill for a few more days. I only had 7 days on that trip so was costly.

I did eat there before previously and had no issues with the tasty food.

Yes, absolutely.

When the owner took over, he kept two things from its days as an Italian eatery, the Coffee, and the Ice Cream.

Hence why he still gets the local Italians going there for their morning espressos.

I usually go to Pitini regularly, the food is good at good prices, but drinks are overpriced and the waitresses although nice and friendly are also tip Nazis. Apart from that all is good.

Not defending old grease but to be fair the picture is Kai Ceow (spelling??) not omelette. Kai Ceow is deep fried or semi deep at least. Thai omelettes look a bit like bullets tapered at both ends. It does get described on menus as omelette often but only because there is no better translation.

I've traveled extensively around North America over the years by hitch hiking and motorcycles using blue highways (two lane roads). I always used to say, "Order eggs, they're hard to screw up.". And then I came to Thailand and got the vile deep fried "omlette" which is greasier than anything I've ever gotten at a truck stop.

Memo to self......."stay clear of Kai Ceow as it looks like a cow has just shit it out"
