Pattaya to Siem Reap info needed.

G'day BM's:)

I plan on a visa run at November's end for a few days in Siem Reap and have never been there. Can some knowledgeable BM's give me info on:

1) Methods of transportation:

Are there flights from Pattaya/U-Tapao to Siem Reap?

If not, what airlines are best to fly out of BKK? Are there flights out of both airports?

Any advice on the land travel option?

2) Recommended accommodations:

Decent (but not too expensive) hotels - visitor friendly, wifi, in-room safes, both in the Pub Street area as well as outside of it (but a close enough tuk-tuk away.)

Thanks for whatever help you can pass my way.smile.png

Thai Air Asia offer several daily flights from Don Muang, some as low as 1900 baht one way

I believe Bangkok Airways go from Swampy but don't know any details. Bangkok Airways tend to be more expensive

Sorry, I can't help with hotels.

I did it a couple of times by bus overland. Once from Bkk and once from Pattaya.

If you consider how long it would take to get to swampy or Don Muang the overland option ain't to long in camparison.

Good roads all the way these days.

I used to stay in The 2 Dragons G/H in Siem...while back though !

I stayed Terrace Des Elephants about 6 weeks ago for around THB2,000/night for a big room right beside the pool. Nice hotel, average breakfast, nice rooftop pool. 2 minutes walk to Pub St.
I would stay there again.

Thai Smile also fly from Swampy and are usually a cheaper than Bangkok Air, but Bangkok Air sometimes have specials and on a recent booking I found it much cheaper for some reason to book two single flights rather than a return flight.

Cambodian Angkor Air also regularly have specials and fly out of Swampy. Air Asia fly out of DMK.

Have travelled overland a couple of times and would never do it again, have had every trick triesd, bus switches, hours at the border and brought to a Guest House late at night at the far edge of Siem Reap, no drop offs anywhere else!

Buses from Thailand to siem reap are notorious for scams. I did the whole trip in reverse direction by private taxis for about 5000 baht, I think it was more or less same time as flying. A bus to the border and a taxi from the border arranged through you siem reap hotel is another option. It is at the Cambodian border where the scams start, and a hotel taxi should insure you actually make it to your intended hotel.

That said, flying is probably easier.

There's a casino bus goes early morning from gas station near big c sukhumvit takes you to the border.  From there walk across then keep walking a hundred meters past the taxi touts and you will then be free from the mafia and can negotiate a driver for about 1000 baht.

I go Air Asia now, did the overland thing once and never again driver had 2 accidents before we even left the city.  I stay at Ta Prohm nice hotel and girl friendly as well.  Main action at night is Pub Street also has some decent restaurants.  I am heading back in February using this itinerary.  Works for me!!!

May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

There is a bus company that goes direct from Siem Reap to Bangkok and vice versa.

Nattakan Direct Bus. No transits, takes around 9 hours, it stops at Morchit near BTS Skytrain.

It takes you to the border, you do the immigration passthrough and the bus drives across and waits for you at a parking lot on the thai side, there is no stupid shuttle or taxi transfer scams. However if the flights are not too outrageous then fly for sure but this is the only bus company that has a direct service all the way.
