You know I bought the robbery story when they first reported it.  Now I'm embarrassed they are Americans.  While I agree Brazil has a right to punish them for the crime (minor) they committed and maybe make it sting a bit for the national embarrassment they caused with their BS story, I can not condone any prison time in a Brazil facility.  They were stupid and assholes.  But their prison system isn't humane and for their crime doesn't justify the potential for serious harm to them if sentenced to one.

 

Pity they can't just be stripped of their medals but I guess a large fine and humiliation will have to do.

I think that if it is proven they are liars,  the IOC is likely to strip them of their medals, for something along the lines of bringing the Olympics into disrepute... I know I know, that they already are of disrepute because of the IOC, themselves, but that seems to be the way they work...  They will want to be seen as doing "something" to protect the Olympic Brand.

As for going to jail?  Fair call, if what they are charged with carries a prison sentence in normal circumstances in that country... As the right whingers oops wingers, keep on telling us "do the crime, do the time", that should apply in this case if applicable. As we constantly read here when some tourist gets in trouble in Thailand, "Their country, Their laws", and this case should be no different.

Actually just read an interview with Lochte.  Apparently they embellished a bit but from their perspective what happened was they used the loo, and the security guards claimed they damaged something and wanted payment and did point guns and stuff.  Since none of them spoke portugese it felt like a robbery.

 

Not sure if he is digging whittle deeper or if there is some truth in there.

Lochte is a fucking tool.  He created the whole mess by being a drunk arrogant frat boy, then ran back to the US and left the 2 young college kids to deal with his shit.  He goes on national television and straight out lies to the camera.  Then he puts out a non-apology written by his lawyer.

 

All he had to do was come clean the next day.  Instead he turned the whole thing into an international incident.  I hope US Swimming slams him with a lifetime ban.  Not that he's going to be able to do much more swimming at his age, but just to send his ass a message.

and an australian swimmer claimed that he had been robbed on  forced at knife point from the copacabana  beach to a bankomat take out 1000australian dollar and hand em over,i for one have a very hard time to belive this story,from the beach you have to cross av.atlantica then enter a hotel to get to a bankomat,not all hotels have them or he had to go one more block to get to one.to much work for one robber he would rather becoma a streetsweeper
