What do you eat when in Vietnam ?

What do you like to eat when visiting Vietnam? I love Pho but it isn't something I like every day plus I can not see eating it and going out drinking, I will have to pee every 10 minutes. Is there anything else like Thailand food?

Although not Thai like....A good Banh mi is to die for....especially during a night out drinking...the more fillings the better...

Pho is typically breakfast in VN.

At night you can get a Bun Bo, Com Tam (broken rice + pork + egg), Banh Mi (baguette sandwich with egg or pork + salad)… Just look around  what people are eating in the street and stop by the one that looks appealing to you. Or you can go to japanese restaurants, there are plenty of them, some are really great and pretty cheap.

I like to eat the crispy pancake (banh xeo).

If you are in Ho Chi Minh city, I'd recommend looking up "the lunch lady". It's a street food stall, serving only lunch, and only one dish for that day. She is serving Thai noodle soup on Monday.

Or if you really want to try dog bollocks, then they can acccomdate in Cambodia.

OLD thread but here goes. Best rule of thumb I found was the more you pay for the food the worse it is. AVIOD AVOID the "facny" restaraunts. Service will be awful and food dissapointing. The best food to be had is usually on the street for a buck or two. If you want a restaruant eat where the locals are eating. They will be glad to help you figure out somethign good to eat.

Thanks for the yummy looking pics and congratulations on your choice of companion to share your meals.

I'll be going to do that myself one of these days, after many years absence from enjoying Saigon.

Cheers. :)

Looking at the food has made me put vietnam on my list of palces to visit. W?hat cities would you recommend for a first timer. Requirements are cheap good local food and interesting (clean) places to visit.

Food is delicious, and ridiculously cheap in VN. way cheaper than Thailand.
Saigon is the staple to visit.  Accomodations are as cheap as you want to pay, to as fancy and expensive that you want.  There are literally thousands upon thousands of places to stay in district 1.. being a hotel, or Airbnb.

Visit Hoi-An if you want a relaxing trip with beaches.  Too relaxing for me, I prefer the craziness of Saigon.  Or there's always Hanoi, which is really popular.  These are all in totally different areas of VN though, so you'd need (super cheap) domestic flights.

If it wasn't for the sheer amount and easiness of p4p in Thailand, i'd probably spend most of my time in VN.

Hanoi has awesome cake and pastry shops. Food is great in general, up there with Thailand. Almost.

I haven't been to Saigon yet.
