I always wanted to go to the Philippines but now I watch some of the youtube videos and I am losing interest. It might be the videos I am watching but the people making the videos seem like very petty unfriendly people, they fight over everything, they flame each other and talk trash about everyone, this is mostly the Dumaguete crowd, it is a expat part of the Philippines which is very cheap to live. I can honestly say Thailand is a better choice for me.

OK, OK. I wasn't sure if you expected a serious and considered reply since you aren't likely to go there anyway. However, the girls are a better experience in the Philippines in most respects I believe but everything else is way better in Thailand. The visas are easy but not cheap, around a grand for a year but you can stay up to 2 years without leaving. Philippines is probably more dangerous to live in than Thailand but not bad if you are careful. The people are same same nice.

Wouldn't put to much credence on youtube videos. I have only been to Angeles and Manila but would recommend everyone go there at least once.

 

Girls are generally not as good looking as their thai sisters or as dirty in bed but are nice. It is getting a lot more expensive there now with prices for girls and the double lady drinks but I spend about the same on a trip there as on a trip to Pattaya. Food around their Walking Street is pretty bad in a lot of places so if you find somewhere you like just eat there for most of a trip.

 

Personally have found it hard to mix with the expats there who seem to have their cliques. Have only tried a few times though so unfair to say they aren't great to socialise with.

Pool parties of the most lascivious kind have been gone for well over 5 years. You may be looking at pics of a private party but even then it would probably need to be a very private pool and a private party. Back in the day they had many wet T shirt pool parties without the T shirts and the girls were keen to impress the judges but not anymore.

These comments are true in my experience. Filipina girls are on average fatter due to their love of Jollibee and Macdo since the local cuisine is so bad. Best places to eat are Tequila Reef and R&B Steak House in the Queens hotel I think. Swiss Chalet should get an honorable mention. Sadly the Koreans are taking over the place and pretty much destroying it as we once knew it, driving up prices like crazy. I think another problem is the LDOP Pattaya expats are starting to go there more now due to visa restrictions in Thailand. The expats can be cliquey with many of them being ex US military but other than that I don't see much difference really. Girls tend have kids more often than their Thai sisters but are generally younger. Less fake tits and few if any post ops.

Understanding that OP is  a clueless newbie and all but not YET ANOTHER Thailand vs PI thread!  There needs to be a law or something. RTFF forum for literally thousands of similar threads. 

 

Kahoy is correct (he actually knows the PI very well unlike 99% of the members here) that the raunchy pool parties are, sadly, a vestige of the past. Kinda like GFE or taking sexy pictures in Thailand. To get GFE in Thailand nowadays I almost always bring my own from the Philippines but that may not be practical for everybody. 

 

As to the expats in the PI being unfriendly, step in to TQ some afternoon and see how warmly received you are by the local biker scum. Pattaya is the World's foremost hideout for international criminals and terrorists on the run (Mollenbeck district of Brussels is a distant second).  Hardly a warm and welcoming group of expats LOL

 

And the PI is  functioning democracy with elections (comment about Thai government redacted to avoid board rule violation or lese majeste charge). 

 

Pi has its warts to be sure, of the genital variety, but Thailand is hardly an STD free virgin.  Shall we compare HIV+ rates in the two countries?    There is ALWAYS  yin AND  yang. Those who see Thailand as "paradise' have severe myopia.  "Paradise" is a concept, not a place.  I am NOT bagging on Thailand as I quite like the place (and dont want to be banned from returning by the junta) , but the lionization by many members on here is downright silly. There are expats who have lived in Pattaya for decades but never been to any of the other ASEAN countries. As Lucky likes to say "there is a reason Baskin & Robbins has 31 flavors". Enjoy the diversity and savor the differences.

My first trip to PI was 1965 with the USN and I felt

that They had dropped me in Heaven, after the first

trip The Navy took me back many times during the

Vietnam war and ever trip was better I could not get

enough of the place, In 1985 I got a set of orders to

SRF Subic Bay and lived on Baloy Beach for 2 years.

II started a scuba diving shop, when the bases closed

I move back to the US and worked for MSC and the

ships took us back to PI. I retired again in 2005 and went

back to PI in 2008 for a vacation and I couldn't believe

the difference, the fun seemed to be gone since then I

have been back 5 more times mixing Thailand with side

trips to PI. bottom line Thailand is today what PI was 25

years ago. But I would recommend at least one trip to

anyone just to see it.

Every forum has the Thai vs Phils battle.... And it always ends the same. It's like choosing your favorite sports team, Go with the team that gives you the most excitement!... (Test both and judge for yourself)... The one thing that chaps my butt is the "this place is more dangerous than that place", give me a break..
