Waiting at the airport after arrival for a friend

I am arriving at Suvarnabhumi airport at noon tomorrow and have a friend arriving on a later flight from Manila at 10pm. He has never been to Thailand and wants me to wait for him so we can get the same taxi to Pattaya.

Is it even feasible/possible to wait at the airport after I pick up my bags for 10 hours? Are there fooderies and possibly a spot to rest? Should I train to Bangkok and come back later? All suggestions welcome.

You should leave the baggage in the airport ,they have a area to look after your baggage very cheaply then go on skytrain to sukhumvit road and enjoy the eat, bars and even the massage .. Easy ,faster and cheaper to travel on skytrain than a taxi .

Definitely don't wait at the airport man. Take a train to Bangkok, drop your bags in a hotel so you can shit, shower an shave and go hit the town. Go to one of the nice shopping malls in Bangkok, get a massage or go for a soapy. If you're on vacation it's a huge waste of your holiday to spend 10 hours in an overpriced boring airport. Just catch a train back to the airport in time to meet your friend and it's not an issue.

Thanks guys, um, I haven't been to Bangkok since 1989 when there were no sky trains. How long does it take and where is the closest stop to Sukhumvit, say Landmark Plaza?

Seriously I love my mates but asking you to wait 10 hours to share a taxi is crazy to me. I would just head to Patts and meet up when he gets in and is ready to go. If he is worried about a feliable taxi organise someone like Tann's taxi who will meet him and look after him and just ask for a driver with good english.

Wasting time and money at the airport and/or running to and fro into Bkk after a long trip is not for me.

Asok is the closest station to Landmark I think, should take about 25 minutes from the airport.

Don't forget, change at Phaya Thai

From memory, soi Asoke is soi 21, right near Coyboy. That would suit.

A couple of hours maybe but to wait 10hrs is taking away 10hrs of boozing , massage and fucking from you. Order another taxi and don't let him know till 30mins before he boards his flight. If he's been to Manila , Bangkok should be easier to navigate for him.

Have your contact numbers handy so he feel confident should there be a cock up and needs to call you.

Geez 10 hours! When you land and reach Pattaya and already had a massage and a meal and you're just having a beer at your first bar , he's not even boarded his flight yet!

I normally live in Angeles although in Oz atm. I don't think I'll be paying Pattaya prices for girls. This is a tourist trip on the way back home after 2 weeks in Pattaya.

AC doesn't have good thai massages and good thai food! :)

Why would you want to go to Landmark in the afternoon? Nothing much to do there!

I don't really, just killing time and eating.

You got it. I'm also looking for an apartment in Pattaya to stay in for breaks away from AC.  Angeles gets a bit oppressive without a break.

Tell your friend to grow a pair and get a taxi all by himself, like what was said above get a reliable taxi driver to head out for him but asking you to wait ten fkn hours in an airport is crazy.

If you only killing time and eating, ust go to Terminal 21 which is right at Asoke, the other side of soi Cowboy. It has 50 to 60 different restaurants, a big food court, cinema, and massage (no happy ending). You could kill the whole afternoon there!

Wait for 10hrs? No, No...go straight to your hotel...shit,shave & shower, have something to eat, maybe a quick fuck as well, then jump on the train back to Swampy.

you cant really eat 10hrs can you? Even buffets will kick you out!

Try Biergaden for a meal and some FLs. Have a good political (like the new President Dirty :) ) discussion with some of the girls there and if the mood strikes , they will know where ther ST hotels are. There's also a new gentleman's club on the same soi as Cabbages and Condoms where you are just chill in an aircon environment with girls. ;)

Not much a a friend if they want you to wait ten hours for them at the airport to save what, 500 baht in taxi fare?

Reiterating the advice above, either SkyTrain it into Bangkok for a bit, or head to Pattaya and tell him to meet you there.

I thought it was more like 1,000 +?

It doesn't really worry me to wait in BKK. It's 25 years or more since I was there and used to live near the old Thermae. I'm only in Thailand for 2 weeks so it will be interesting to see how it's changed.

10 hours and thats if the plane is on time ....... I wouldn't after a flight like yours get down to pattaya get yourself freshened up...... if he is staying in the same hotel as you what you could do is arrange for the same taxi driver to go back for him so they know exactly where to drop him off

Text him where to find to the taxi ... Swampy is pretty easy to navigate

Actually pre-arrange  your taxi and have the same taxi go back for him use Nam or one of the other taxi's recommended on this site

if he really is worried go back for him in the taxi  later when you are sure his plane is on its way but that would make you an uber good friend and I personally cannot see the point unless he is a complete baby you have concerns he will get lost ...

Incorrect: the nearest sky-train station to The Landmark is Nana.
