Well you can guarantee one thing, if The Queen had commented on it she would have been heartily pissed off ; "very rude" would be her understatement !  555

I recall a Guards officer telling me that HM wasn't shy of noting Guardsmen who didn't come up to speed during formal parade inspections and drill.

From what he told me on one occasion she informed the accompanying CO that a Guardsman had pissed himself on parade, the CO replied something along the lines that the regiment hadn't been off the parade ground for hours.

The story goes that HM then insisted that from that day on, all HER Guardsmen would be issued the standard RAF aircrew piss bags (taped to inside leg with penis funnel attached) for long parades and rehearsals; and so it came to be.

Next time any of you see the Brigade of Guards on parade, imagine the hundreds of liters of well trained urine that's sloshing around under their immaculate uniforms !

Her Father King George V1 attended his own funeral parade rehearsals once he'd been advised that he only had weeks to live.

It was said that the Brigade of Guards commander had to request he not attend again, as the troops were unnerved by his appearance there.

When I was on exchange with the Brit Army in 1992 I wrangled a month with the Blues and Royals (Horse Guards), and had the pleasure of meeting HRH Princess Anne at a formal dining-in night; in the regiments officers mess one of the few places the Royals can be themselves.

HRH enters the mess with her youthful ADC and the regiments CO, we're all upstanding as is the custom and she's guided around to meet all and sundry with a Beer in hand.

Then HRH asks to see the famed Mess Billiard table (one of those old classic full size Billiard tables with a full slate under-base) always found in traditional officers messes even in Australia.

By all accounts Anne loves to play billiards particularly in the various messes she visits, so we all followed the party into the billiard room while she checked it out.

Her sniveling young ADC said; "your Royal Highness, perhaps you'd like to choose an opponent for a game after dinner",

quick as a shot Anne laughingly replied "I'm not laying on another billiard table for a potential husband ever again" .....everyone laughed loudly and understood it was yet another one of her risque jokes.

From that night on Princess Anne became my favorite Royal, interestingly the Brit Army has always loved her.

Not many know that she privately contributed (and used her influence) to the Gurkha's support group lobbying to have their pension and retirement rights established by the stingy British government at the time.

Joanna Lumley  (JL...one of the staunch leaders of the Gurkha support group) happens to be a discreet friend of Princess Anne's.

BTW JL's father "Jimmy" (WW2 6th Gurkha Rifles) was a close friend of a good mate of mine JT (my generation, 4th Gurkha Rifles) and is a good mate of JL's.

Funny how all the trivia in ones life echoes back to a bloke isn't it.   555
