Are there any nice rooms in phuket for around the 500baht mark?

Also, what's the best area to enjoy in phuket, walkable without needing a motorbike or car all the time? I prefer not to drive.

Depending on season...I would say, yes !

In Patong Phuket there has been a building boom of small boutique hotels and guest houses lately,

usually full in high season, but plenty of empty rooms in low season!

It's not difficult to get a 50 % discount on a room, or more depending of how long time you stay!

If you go after Songkran end of April you will have no problems finding nice new hotelrooms at 500-700 baht!

Lots of them along the new Pang Muang Sai Kor Road, that cut's Patong in half, especially at the southern end of Patong.

Patong isn't that big you can easily walk around it in an hour or two, if you want to be near nightlife Soi Saen Sabai is great,

but can be noisy with lots of motorbikes at night, and prices for hotels around 700-1000 baht/night.

Do a search on www.agoda.com.

When no money... she no give honey!

Tiger hotel is decent. Off season prices are $13-17 usd a night. Close to Bangala. Night Market across street. Mall next door.
