Trip to Pattaya City Hospital

Hi folks

I developed a bad cough while in Pattaya and decided to visit Pattaya City Hospital, here's my experience.....

It's located on Soi Buakhao near Soi Diana, so smack dab in the middle of town

Went in to the main entrance around 0830 on a Saturday morning

Just a few easy steps to follow:

Fill in a registration form - you should bring your passport - I forgot mine but it didn't matter

Hand in the form while they register you

Go to triage for blood pressure, temperature, a few easy questions - if you have any allergies or a complex history or any special needs, tell the triage nurse

Hand in the triage form and they will match you with a doctor - at this point they told me it costs 600 baht to see the doctor

At this point they hand you the triage form along with a room number.....drop these in the basket....as soon as the doctor is available they usher you in

The doctor checked me out, I explained some of my medical conditions, he clearly understood what I told him

He wrote me a prescription for three medications, an antibiotic, an antihistamine, and a cough syrup

I walked down the hall to the pharmacy and handed in the prescription

After a few minutes the cashier called me over and asked for 992 baht, 600 for the doctor and 392 for the Meds

Then pharmacy handed me the Meds, and I was out the door

Total time spent about 50 minutes

All in all a great experience, highly recommended

There were a lot of Thais in there, and a half dozen foreigners

Antibiotic and antihistamine for a cough, covering all bases I suppose , my doc here in Australia would have just told me to take some cough syrup and rest..

Thai/Cambo doctors just give you antibiotics for every little thing . No wonder bacteria are becoming resistant .

More then likely a cough is from a viral infection , don't know why DRs are so quick to put somebody on antibiotics..
