Cost Comparison - Thailand vs. Philippines - Financial Analysis - PART VI

I thought I'd get started on this because I'm about to take another trip in early February, and don't want to fall behind on Part VII.

 

In September, I traveled for a duration of 21 days, splitting my time between Pattaya and the Philippines.  12 days in the Thailand, 9 days Philippines.

 

During my time in the Philippines, I went to a couple of ballet performances at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP).

 

Trip Summary

 

 

From the Trip Summary screenshot above, in US Dollars (USD), I have separated the total cost I spent between the two countries over the 21-day period (12 days in Thailand, 9 in Philippines).

 

I have removed the cost of hotels, Airline tickets, and Travel-Transportation to come up with the net of everything else spend during that time.

 

Excluding hotel, Airline Tickets, and Travel-Transportation, the average daily costs were as follows:

 

Thailand - $120 / day

Philippines - $96 / day

 

Since it came up in discussion during Part II, the reason I omit Travel-Transportation, which includes both airport transportation and travel between destinations is because I like to isolate the daily cost of similar activities and daily functions in each city.

 

Including hotel, while excluding both Airline Tickets and Travel-Transportation, the average daily costs were as follows:

 

Thailand - $153 / day

Philippines - $152 / day

 

The "Avoided Cost" factor is money that would have been spent at home on daily living expenses had I not been traveling during this time period.

Including tips, I spent $405 on hotels in Pattaya and Bangkok.

The hotel situation is interesting.  Some might argue that hotels are more expensive in Pattaya.  In my case, I lodge at nicer places in the Philippines.  My Soi Buakhaw place is lower cost, and I would prefer to stay in the 2,000 baht per night places, but a key factor in Pattaya is location as I prefer to walk quite a bit and avoid unsafe transportation, close to LK Metro and the action for now.  In the Philippines, I prefer to stay at nicer hotels with lap-swimming pools.

 

Entertainment (Mongering, etc.) - Both Philippines and Thailand

 

E - Drinks, Lady Drinks, etc. in bars, clubs, Insomnia, High Society, etc.

 

O - Occurrences (Girls)

 

STH - Short-time hotels

 

In summary of the four places, per occurrence, is as follows:

• Thailand - $53-to-$56 per occurrence (1,920-to-2,003 Baht per occurrence)
• Philippines - $51 per occurrence

Losses

 

Losses were very minimal on this trip, and on the previous trip, losses were practically zero.  Losses may include misplacing money, lost items, including phone, clothing, etc., being pickpockted by kids, ripoffs, etc.  Even though my losses here were small, I thought I'd include this last sheet since it's within my template.

Some additional comments about this particular trip.

 

September - Relatively low season

 

Women:

• Philippines is a about quality
• Pattaya is about quantity

Personally, I don't find any such costs in Pattaya to be either unreasonable or expensive, and place all goods and services, including girls, into one of the three following categories:

• Cheap
• Low-cost
• Reasonable

I enjoy traveling to both places. One is not necessarily better than the other, but they're different.  Philippines is a better place if your into the cultural performing arts. Also, Pattaya is pretty much a one-track town. A fun place of course, but quality non-mongering activities are few and far between. 

 

Efficiency:

 

Google Docs and Spreadsheets has certainly made this a lot easier, especially with being able to simply enter data into the Sheets App on mobile devices. I'm using the same template file I designed in 2013, so it's all pretty much data entry and not a lot of time during and after the trip.

I just know that you can get what you want from both venues.

 

Agreed.  I have extensive experience in both places, and I'm not one to get into comparison (except for costs of course, because I'm an analytical person and enjoy doing this), but I don't dialogue about which one is better.  My view, is they're different.

 

I will say, however, that I do enjoy the cultural arts (i.e. ballet, symphony, opera, theater, etc.) and the Philippines has more to offer in this regard.

While it's true that Manila, PI has more 'cultural activities' does it have more than BKK....?

 

I think this is a far better comparison than comparing to a MUCH smaller city (Pattaya).

 

And regards the 'Arts' in Pattaya, in the last few years there has been an INCREASE in events.

 

Symphonic, a local Theatre group, so on.

 

The two Pattaya Expat groups (meet weekly) regularly have information about them.

I am speechless 

 

The way i work out my expenditure is as follows...

 

For example:

 

I transfer 150,000 THB to my SCB account.

There was already 19,222 THB in the account.

Total 169,222 THB

 

When I get home after my trip I check balance which is 15,222 THB

This means I spent 154,000 THB 

Oops plus £120 of taxis to and from LHR 

 

Now that is accounting made easy.

 

The figures I used above are just an example and bear no reflexion on my true spending power.

Very interesting reading. I had 8 O in AC for a total of 10500 pesos. But I only did HiSo.

Philippines is very expensive for quality western food and apartments in Manila you need to spend minimum $500 a month if you want to eat decent western food in malls or apartments

 

in thailand you can get 4000 - 6000 bath per month

Thats great Ruay... But i know some gay mongers who are very anal ( in more ways than one) when it comes to being analytical with record keeping on bar fines , recording ratings out of 10 , detailed description , even time in and time out .duration of session.... Omg yes lol.. Even keeping face pics of their bar fines !!
